doctor/patient relationship. Orexigen is not involved in the treatment decision of any patient and does not receive any portion of the consultation fee. We are supportive of processes that assure patient safety, but we also see why your experience could be frustrating. We actually do not have access to your medical records, the questionnaire or the nurses/physician involved. The information you provided in the complaint with the Revdex.com is all the information we have for this case and our response. Controls are in place to assure your private health information remains with HealthRight. I can further confirm that Orexigen does not have your credit card information or access to your credit card information. Even though we are independent of the medical treatment decision, we do take your complaint and negative experience seriously and will reach out to HealthRight to better understand when and why patients are charged a fee. Thank you for bringing this concern to our attenton. We do not sustantively dispute Ms***'s statements. Unfortunately, but appropriately, Orexigen does not offer refunds for side effects experienced by patients. Virtually all medications (presrcibed and over-the-counter) have
side effects. Companies are required to be transparant to doctors and patients regarding side effects. If you look at the Contrave website or the Contrave commercial that plays on TV, we provide a significant portion of the time listing known side effects. Many patients taking Contrave experience at least one if not multiple side effects in the first few weeks of treatment. Some side effects are more serious than others, and it is really up to the treating physician and patient to determine whether the patient should remain on therapy or discontinue treatment. Given the variance among patient experiences and independent medical judgment, it is not possible for Orexigen to issue refunds for side effects. This is not a unique position. For example, patients who are treated for cancer may lose their hair. Other medications may cause drowsiness. There is currently a drug on the market to treat opioid-induced constipation. If a refund was required for all these events of experienced side effects, then the companies could not survive financially.
