Incompetant and dishonest
Look at the reviews on this site all of them are Negative
I will not give a rating for Ortho Virginia at the Hanover Memorial Hospital location they deserve a zero. My wife has 4th stage lung cancer it has spread to her bones, spine and stomach. She is in a tremendous amount of pain every day. She is currently taking Morphine, Oxy Codone and Tylenol which are not relieving her pain. We were recommended to go to Ortho Virginia for a Nerve Ablation procedure to relieve the pain in her back.
We scheduled an appointment approximately 10 days in advance for the June 21st appointment. On the day I scheduled the appointment I explained that Marilyn has cancer in various areas of her body including a tumor on her spine at L-2 and T-10. I asked if they could perform Nerve Ablation on her. The women I was speaking with to make the appointment ask me to wait on hold while she checked with the Doctors office, she came back to the phone several minutes later and said yes, they can do the nerve ablation on her.
We arrived for the appointment with Andrea Kysor (Nurse Practitioner) early Ms. Kysor’s nurse assistant came in the room and said she had a couple of questions. In between her asking questions I restated that Marilyn has cancer and a tumor on her spine around L-2 and 10-10. I politely asked Andrea Kysor ‘s nurse why she didn’t call me back after I had left several messages in advance of the appointment day inquiring if they would like for us to bring CT scans, MRI’s and the associated Radiology reports, she didn’t have an answer as to why she didn’t call me back. It’s very obvious to me now. Andrea Kysor ‘s nurse a few minutes later said we need to take an X-ray. Marilyn was taken to get an X-ray.
20 minutes or so later Andrea Kysor entered the room she introduced herself than said Doctor Gibellato doesn’t have the skills to perform a nerve ablation on a cancer patient with a tumor their spine. They knew in advance when we made the appointment that my wife had a tumor on her spine. I had explained that this was causing the pain, that the tumor pressing on her spinal nerves was the reason for the appointment I told them in advance of them taking the X-ray. I also left the message stating she had tumors on her spine when I asked if I should bring CT scans, MRI’s and the associated reports.
Rather than telling us that Dr. G didn’t have the skills to perform a nerve ablation on a patient with a tumor on their spine in advance when I called or before they took Marilyn to get an X-Ray they waited until the X-Ray so they could bill Medicare and Anthem of additional money.
Ortho Virginia made an appointment with me for my wife knowing she had a tumor on her spine. Please keep in mind they made this appointment after I asked if the doctor could perform a nerve ablation with a tumor on the spine. Then after repeating that she had a tumor on her spine statement while in the exam room they said they needed an X-Ray.
This appears to be predatory behavior. Ortho Virginia is taking advantage of people with cancer; my wife is in excruciating pain daily she waited 10 days to get an appointment. How callous is a doctor, a practice and its staff who have advance knowledge of a tumor being on the patient’s spine to make an appointment knowing that the doctor at Ortho Virginia can’t complete the procedure that will alleviate their pain because he doesn’t have the skills. Before we left, we asked them if they knew of A doctor who could do the procedure on a cancer patient with Tumors on the spine they said they could speak with the doctor, they were sure they knew of someone they would get a name and contact information and call us back with it.
Two days later when I didn’t hear back from them, I called to speak with the Practice Manager Sharon she was useless absolutely no help. I explained what took place with being given false information as to the lack of skills of Dr. Mathew Gibellato to work with cancer patients. Sharon Practice manager told me she would look into it and call me back. She didn’t call back I had to call her. She attempted to tell me that the same nurse assistant to Andrea Kysor PA tried to call UVA hospital 2 times and sat on hold for 30 minutes. I told her that was a lie. I explained that UVA Cancer center doesn’t operate that way I explained that we had been associated with them for five years. I explained that you don’t call and wait for a doctor’s office nurse etc to answer. Rather the UVA operator takes all the calls either connects you, pages the person, or they take a message and the doctor or doctors nurse calls you back.
Sharon the Practice Manager is despicable as all of the other people we came in contact with. You should stay away from this Ortho practice. In my 71 years of life, I have never come across a doctors practice whose employees lie, whom doesn’t return phone calls and a practice manager who attempts to cover up for inept employees. The final words of Wisdom I received from Sharon Practice manager was that I should call UVA hospital to get a referral for a doctor qualified to do a nerve ablation on a cancer patient. My wife was inconvenienced and in excruciating pain for 15 days and Ortho Virginia at Hanover Memorial Hospital location couldn’t care less.
Incompetant and dishonest

MRI Department
Arriving at 3 with plans for an approximate 15 min MRI, I left after 6 due to a chain of events not of my doing… someone in the office dropped the ball
Never again will I let them schedule an MRI there.. never again

Appointment canceled last minute
I went to Orthovirginia more than ones and the receptionist at the front told me that the doctor wasn't at the office and I called scheduling and they told that the receptionist lied to me and the doctor was there in the office the day of my appointment. And I when back there another time to see another for a follow-up and the cancel my appointment the same within 15 minute of me coming to the appointment and I traveled over two hours for nothing. I ask the clinical for another doctor and she avoided me and tried to make me another appointment. I refused to come back there after coming there two hour plus away.

Are these reviews real?
I have never had a bad experience at Ortho Virginia. Friendly staff, easy to get an appointment, great doctor, took his time.

POST OP HIP REPLACEMENT
I had the above surgery 1 week ago, with wire cable wrap. Discharged on Day 2, and fell the night of day 3. Since there is no place on the portal to report an incident other than non emergent messages, I elected to call the office. I reported, leaving a detailed message, with no return call. On day 7 I sent a portal message listing my complaints. to the PA, Neither Dr. Wind nor his PA, Chris or anyone in the office, followed up on my status. They deny having heard about my call. I was sent to PT, without office visit or surgery notes, and was treated without knowing my condition. The Case Mgr called yesterday, assuring me that Dr. Wind would call. That was 24 hrs ago. Still no call
I would definitely not recommend this group . There was no rating for 0 stars

Their billing department is terrible and highly unorganized! Received a bill in the mail - FINALLY - however, a few days later I received a letter from collections! Really?!

I have utilized the services of OrthoVA for a variety of issues over a period of 12 years. I have never experienced anything described by the previous reviews. My issues have ranged from rotator cuff surgeries, knee pain injections, knee replacement and back/sciatic pain management. I've dealt with five different doctor's according to the needed specialty. The P A's I have dealt with were great as well as their support staff. Their after hours services are based on a first come first served basis. I didn't like dealing with a PA whom I didn't know but he was kind and responsive. I've waited once for an appointment for 45 minutes other times I been less than five to ten minutes and that's due to patient late arrival times. Lastly, their staff doing all billing etc. have always been helpful and of all the appointments and services I've never had a problem with my insurance or their billing. I highly recommend the Hanover office.

My daughter had a terrible experience with [redacted] (The Boulder's Office location). She fractured her clavicle without any trauma (she simply shrugged and heard a POP) and on our first visit, [redacted] response to how it occurred was "I don't buy it, but whatever", and was very rushed and would not address any of my concerns over why and how that could happen - stated nothing could be done until after she healed.

I called the office manager and requested a follow up with a different doctor in their practice, but the other pediatric doctor refused.

When we went to the follow up appointment with [redacted], I wanted answers on how she could break a bone from shrugging and he advised "It shouldn't happen, but clearly it did and I have no explanation". After he left the room because he clearly thought the appointment was over, I asked the nurse to send him back in because I had more questions, I asked him what he thought about her bone density - he said that it looked fine based on the X-ray and he didn't want to perform "Shotgun medicine, but he would order the test although he knew the results would be normal". (that is a very shortened version of the convo - it took a lot of convincing on my end to get him to order it)

I am thankful that I pushed him because her bone density results showed "Significantly lower than normal for her age" and when I took her to her general physician for 2nd opinion, she ordered blood tests which showed an extreme Vitamin D deficiency.

If I had not pushed for that testing and just assumed that he knew best as the doctor - how much worse would my daughter's health get? Scary to think about. [redacted] is clearly negligent - he has zero bedside manner and serves patients like they are at a fast food restaurant - get them in and out. I would NEVER recommend him and frankly, I don't believe he should be a doctor at all. If you don't care about your patients - why do it?

Review: I received a bill for service on and around February 25 ,2014 .two days later I received a phone call at work from a collections agent telling me the bill was very late and was now in collections .I explained to her I just received the bill and had every intent of paying my bill. I called ortho virginia letting them know what occurred ,They told me the bill was late ,I told them this was the only bill ive received, and that someone in there billing department has made a mistake.I have paid this bill in full ,it has been cashed and applied to the account, how ever when I called to tell them that collections was still trying to collect a fee I was told that the doctor had to be the one to let the fees go.and that they would call me back with a decision.two weeks later and another phone call made by me ,the doctors office calls me and says no they not removing the fees.I don't believe I should be held accountable for there mistake. And to add to maters they sent me another bill a few days after the check was cleared.nothing about being late or in collections.Desired Settlement: I want ortho virginia to call this situation out of collections and to drop the fees associated with this situation,as well as restore any negative impact this has had on my credit .I would like acknowledgement this this matter has been taking care of to my satisfaction.

Business

Response:

The doctor has agreed to write off the collector fee. We have alrady called the collector requesting this be done. There will be NO effect on the patient's credit rating.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's offer. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved. If the company does not perform as promised I can get back to you at: [redacted]
Regards,

Boulders Location:

The front office staff were quite indifferent about my excessive wait time. I arrived 10 minutes early. My appointment was at 4pm, I was not called back until 4:40pm. I approached the front office staff at 15minutes after my appointment, the staff did not seemed concerned nor were they apologetic. I would not refer this office to anyone.

My husband has been in pain and injured with a herniated disc for 4 MONTHS! I have called and called and left messages and have been told that a nurse or a doctor or a SOMEONE was going to return my call. FINALLY on 03/10/14 I get in touch with Lisa. She states that she is off on 03/11/14 and will leave a message for Kristen, who by the way is the most RUDE, UNPROSESSIONAL individual I have EVER had the displeasure of dealing with. I called on 03/11/14 and got Kristen (rude) on the phone who states she has no message from Lisa and then states that I was supposed to call her. This office obviously cannot get the stories, facts or patient care in order. They probably should reevaluate their courses of action with patient care and re-evaluate their choices in unreliable staff. This will not be the only complaint I file today. Unbelievable.

I have been a patient with this medical practice for several different issues. I recall a time when they performed an elbow surgery. I finished the physical therapy. But, I was having some numbness, tingling and falling asleep in my little finger. I called the office and left a voice mail seeking answers. That was 13 years ago. I still have not received an answer. The doctor that performed the surgery, had NO bedside manner. Neither did he ever answer any face to face questions I asked. He basically would look at me as if my lips were moving and I was speaking a different language. I should have taken a lesson from this experience. However, I continued to go to this facility for other issues. I was a patient for 1 year for a back injury. Moving forward to present date, I've been back to this office for my back issue. Nothing had changed regarding the nature of how patients are treated. As if they are merely, animals with no feelings or emotions. Not worthy of having any questions answers. The Orthopedic physician saw me once. Thereafter, I was seen by his assistant. I felt invisible when communicating with the Physician's Assistant. Adding insult to injury, they claimed to have mixed up my work release paperwork with that of another patient. This has cost me financial hardship. I've called the office, leaving voice mails specifying the contact number to return my call. They have never called that number. They have yet to confirm that they indeed put me on medical restrictions. And, I have the paperwork with my SSN, name, and other identifying information. Therefore, how could my paperwork be that of another patient? Also, my HR staff telephoned the doctor's office to confirm the restrictions. The office confirmed. Now, denies. Many years ago when the office was West End Orthopedic Clinic, they had some issues. However, even with those issues, I thought there wasn't anyway they could have gotten any worst. WRONG!

I was in a car accident with a friend and needed help on a bulging disc in my back. I rode 86 miles to see him on a appoinment his secretaries made me take on xmas eve. I arrived 2 minutes on the dot after my appoinment time and before I could barely talk his secretaries told me I would have to reschedule. The secretaries were very rude to me and my father and treated us like cattle. I demanded they go tell [redacted] that I rode 80 miles to see him in a city I don't live in and a location I've never been to before. They came back a couple of minutes later and said he couldn't see me. I was applaud by their comment and they then begged me to reschedule. At that point the staff and doctor had showed their true colors. I knew down in my heart that these were not the right people for me to put my life in trust in. To tell that to someone limping in pain and for a doctor to take a oath to do no harm is sickening. I initaly didn't have the money to afford this doctor after the accident since I couldn't work and had to sell my car to afford him. I went through alot to be their I usally don't write reviews about people/businesses but since individuals are puttling their life and trust on the line I feel obligated to inform. I wish someone would've reviewed them to save me some time. An observer in the waiting room said they noticed at the desk the paper work said no insurance and said this was probly why I was being jerked around. Reguardless of the real issue I had plenty of money to pay my way and start the recovery process and instead I was treated like a hobo off the streets

[redacted] office at OrthoVirginia is quite possibly the least organized and completely incompetent doctor's office I have ever been to and OrthoVirginia AfterHours is a complete scam. I called to set up an appointment with [redacted] and was told that there were no available appointments for months and was told to go to AfterHours and they could give me an initial assessment as well as set me up with a follow up appointment. I went there, waited for 1 hour in the lobby, and another hour in the actual doctors office before an actual doctor came in. His diagnosis was, "I don't know" you have to see [redacted]. This literally took him about 10 minutes for my actual doctor visit and consultation but waited 2 hours for them to tell me nothing. They were "magically" able to set me up with an appointment with [redacted] right away even though the previous person on the phone said he had nothing available (this was all within the span of about 6 hours and it wasn't just 1 spot open because of a cancellation, there were multiple spots open). Once I got to [redacted] office, he was unprofessional to say the least. He has terrible bedside manner and when I asked him what I should do and how should I handle my ailment, he actually asked me on multiple occasions "What would you like to do?". I didn't know how to answer him since I don't go to doctors and self diagnosis or self-evaluate myself. If I was able to do that, then I wouldn't need a doctor's help. After about 15 minutes, with awkward pauses of silence in-between, he basically said he had no idea what it was and it was my choice as to whether I should get an MRI to find out, or just not be able to walk right for 6-8 months. At that point, I don't think it was a hard decision to get an MRI and actually try to figure out what is wrong with my foot since no one has even remotely given me a diagnosis yet.

Afterward, their office was supposed to send my medical history to my insurance company but didn't. A week goes by, I call their office to find out what happened, and the nurse just tells me, "I couldn't find it". So rather than asking me or calling me or even talking to the insurance company, she just decided that since she could figure it out, that she would just not do it. I called the insurance company, spent about 4 hours at work calling back and forth between them and the nurse (I don't understand why she could pick up the phone and call herself) and they she finally sent the information to the insurance company. Perfect example of her laziness and absolute incompetence, she asked me to call the insurance company so I could get her their fax number. I told her the number for the insurance company is on the card she photocopied, and she said, "Oh, sure is. but can you call them for me and get their fax number?". I didn't even know how to respond to her without be offensive, I'm fairly certain that is why they photocopy the card (to have information in regards to the insurance company) and I'm also pretty sure I'm not your personal secretary. I adamantly told her to keep me in the loop, if they respond or do not respond, let me know and I will call the insurance company or do whatever I can to help the situation along. Fast forward 2 weeks later, and I call to get an update since no one has contacted me yet, and same nurse says that they just didnt call her back, and it never occurred to her to tell me that they didnt call her back or didnt approve or disapprove of the MRI. So at this point, Im back to square one. If you are looking for a foot and ankle specialist in Richmond VA, please look somewhere else, they already have a couple of negative reviews and now I see why. They will know who I am because of the specifics I've listed above but I am never coming back here ever again so it doesn't matter. Save yourself from the headache

I have never had a worse experience with a doctor's office than this before. My father was injured at work and needed immediate attention. After going to the ER we looked into OrthoVirginia because of its convenient location and since his children must translate for him.
They refused to book an appointment until the workman's compensation adjustor authorized it, despite our repeated offers to pay out of pocket or to use our own private insurance. In fact, we were told quite disingenuously, that it was "illegal" for them to see him until the workers' comp claim number was provided. I later called the Workers' Compensation Commission and told that was false.
Eventually after several days of effort, while trying to find another doctor, we were able to finally see a doctor. While his assessment and treatment were adequate, what happened next was not.
[redacted] refused to see my father while he was in the office for a followup when my father said that pain had spread up the side of his leg near the injured area. [redacted] said once again, the limitations of the insurance were such that he was limited to the only the original injured area.
Now, we are looking to switch doctors, but are told our medical records will cost "an unknown" amount, since they outsource that service and can take two weeks.
Save your time and money! Find someone else. Atrocious, money-centered folks. Don't believe their website about being "patient-oriented."
