[redacted] visited our office for a complimentary consultation on 8-9-16. The session was approximately 30 minutes to evaluate his dental condition and prepare for his orthodontic treatment.  At no time did [redacted] say he was getting more opinions.  If he had communicated this to us we would NOT...

have taken diagnostic records. He wished to pursue a bracing treatment here.  At that time he was told that diagnostic records are necessary before treatment and part of the treatment fee.  These are taken when the patient commits to treatment in our office as [redacted] did that day.  He picked 2 starting appointment times, reviewed the financial commitment and financial contract with our bookkeeper.  She reviewed possible insurance coverage with him and spent time gathering this information for him. Diagnostic records were taken, his malocclusion evaluated and a letter was sent to him explaining orthodontic treatment along with the starting appointment times he had chosen. We had set aside 20 minutes and 2 hours of office time for these appointments. Therefore [redacted] led us to believe that he would be receiving orthodontic treatment here. He did not cancel his bracing appointments.  The consultation is done at no charge but when the patient agrees to start treatment and picks starting appointment dates we then need to take diagnostic records (two digital xrays, study models and photos ) to prepare the treatment plan.  We would be happy to send these items to [redacted] or the new orthodontist.
