Oscar's Auto Repair Reviews (3)

Being from [redacted] I value mechanics who don't try to push repairs on me. I know a decent amount about vehicles, and when I'm in [redacted], I do the majority of my own repairs at my father's hanger. Since moving down here, I've not had those resources available to me, and I was concerned about finding a mechanic I could trust. Upon a friend's recommendation, I tried Oscar's.

Oscar's Auto is about as straight forward and open of an establishment as you could hope to find. They go above and beyond in explaining precisely what needs to be done on a vehicle, and I will vouch for the authenticity of those explanations. They even go so far as to save any broken parts removed from your vehicle so that you can see exactly what went wrong and why it needed to be fixed. They will not do unnecessary work to make an extra buck. In fact, there is not an aspect of how they conducted themselves that is not professional, ethical, and personable.

My personal experience was with a check engine light that came on. They diagnosed it as an evaporation issue. They suggested avoiding a $50 smoke test for leakage until it was verified that I simply hadn't screwed my gas gap on tight enough. In short, they saved me money. There was also an issue with burning coolant, which they addressed with a leak-stopper additive.

In addition, a good friend of mine has had multiple issues with keeping an early 90's model sedan running, and she has always appreciated their honesty and the quality of the work they do. Again, every step of the process explained, and all of the work on display for examination, as I witnessed the time I went with her. Good on ya, guys. Keep up the great work.

I put my 1995 chevy van in their shop for them to replace a engine. the frist engine I brought my self from Jacksonville nc and they put it in and said it was no good. I paid $728.00 for that motor to be put in. so I gave them &800,00 dollars for them to to buy a motor from some one that they knew and I paid them another $600.00 to put that motor in. which is no good either. it was smoking and one day I went in to check on my van and notice there was suffer all over my motor. And I ask them did my van catch fire, and they told me that was for a oil spill. But I knew better. I have just put five new tires on my van , four on the ground and one on the back rack But when I saw my van It had two new tires missing from the front, and I ask the guy oCsar what happen to me new tires, and his responds was what new tires. And I said my tires that was on my van I said some one has taken them off, I said my tires was new He said no one touched your tires you probably need an alinment that's why you tires are slick And I told him no way my tires can be ball slick in one month, some one changed my tires, I showed him my recipe where I brought those tires on 2 20 2015, and my motor stop working the frist week of APRIL AND MY VAN WENT IN THIER SHOP the second week of April So there is no way my tires should be slick unless they exchanged HE tires ON MY VAN.And when they set my van on fire it messed up the wires. they tried to rewire my van and burned some units in my fuse box, so now I need to rewire the whole harness in and out side, because they cut wires leading from my fuse box trying to rewire stuff to get the van to start And now my windows do not work my head lights only work on dim Because they broke the switch and my ac do not work anymore my door locks and the motor died in the middle of the street. Iam gonna file suit against them to recover my loses.I hope that you all can help meDesired Settlementthey need to replace my [redacted] custom van with another, because it will cost more to fix now than it will to buy oneBusiness Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: [redacted]Contact Email: [redacted],As we have told you several times in the last week, your issue is with another company that used to be located beside us. [redacted]. is a used car dealer that does not do any service work nor do we employ any mechanics. If you would like to contact me I will be glad to give you the phone number and address for the company that you need to contact. I don't feel comfortable putting this information in the public domain as I do not know the details of your situation. Thanks.Final Business Response My name is [redacted] and I am the owner of Os-car's Auto Repair. The customer brought us his van, not running with a bad engine. The van had previously had work done to the steering column and the electrical components of the engine. There were several electrical wires that had been spliced together poorly without proper insulation. Many other wires in the engine compartment had also been poorly repaired. We have pictures showing the damaged wires before we started working on the van. When replacing the engine it was not necessary for us to move or mess with the existing damaged wires from the steering column. This damage had already been done and we advised the customer about the damaged wires and he did not want us to do anything with them. The original engine that the customer brought us was a used engine that he acquired himself. We told that since it was a used engine that we didn't buy there would be no warranty for the engine or labor costs to install. He was fully aware of that before we worked on the van. After the engine was installed it was determined that the engine was no in working condition. He was then offered the opportunity to purchase a re-manufactured engine but he wanted to buy another used engine. We told him that we could get a used engine but again, that engine would not come with a warranty on parts and labor other than a 30-day engine that the salvage yard offered. Concerning the tires, we did not swap or replace the customer's tires. Our shop does not do tire work and we do not have the equipment required to remove tires. Furthermore, we have a voicemail from the customer stating that his alignment was bad and he was going to take the van back to the shop that did the alignment before we worked on the van. A bad alignment could easily ruin a set of tires even if they were purchased in February.

These guys do excellent work, providing quality labor. They do their work w/ integrity and provided correct diagnosis. I will take my car to them as long as I live in this town. ","pos-1
