Ottawa Boat Cruise Reviews (%countItem)

The company ran a cruise tour in Ottawa while their was a thunderstorm forecasted. The thunderstorm did occur putting all passengers at risk.
The cruise occurred on August 6,2018 and the body departed at 7:30 pm. I paid $54.00 for two adult tickets and the ticket number is ***. Before boarding the boat, I asked the staff member if we would be safe on the boat and I was told we would be. I asked the staff this because the thunderstorm was forecasted earlier that day for that evening. The thunderstorm started about half way through the trip. We departed at Rideau canal and went in the direction of the Rideau falls. We were down a river by *** when the rain began. There was rain, wind, lightning and thunder. I took a video on my phone of the experience for a record. I contacted the company about giving me a refund as I do not believe the company should profit when putting lives at danger. I was terrified as was ***, there were several children and clients on board and the boat is made of metal. We did not dock immediately but instead went back to Ottawa during the peak of the storm to dock on the Rideau canal. Also, life jackets are kept in a location that is much to high for children and shorter adults to reach which is unsafe. The company responded that the captain uses his discretion when it is safe to operate or not and said that the boat is safe enough for wind and rain. They refuse to give a refund and do not seem to acknowledge that their was a storm and that the boat should not have been out.

Initial Business Response /(1000, 16, 2018/09/17) */
We have previously been in touch with *** and at this point in time we will not be issuing a refund. However, we would gladly issue another pair of tickets for a cruise should she return to Ottawa so that she can experience it in better weather.

Our boat are safetied and fully compliant with *** regulations. We are inspected annually and have consistently passed.

We are able to operate rain or shine and our Captains amongst other staff have the responsibility to watch the weather and radar to determine if we should be out. On August 6th at the date and time in question rain and wind was registered at 9-13 km/h (which is low speed for wind). The captain did stay docked for a few minutes to let the storm pass as it was raining heavily for a short period. However, following that operations continued as normal.

We understand that her experience was not as enjoyable due to the conditions. However, we were within our operational rights and did not endanger the lives of others. Even in heavy rain the water does not have high waves that would endanger the boat. Should the customer wish to return we will gladly provide complimentary tickets.

Thank you.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /(3000, 18, 2018/09/18) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept the tickets because I do not feel comfortable taking another tour with this company. They continue to ignore the safety concern that I have brought up. My issue is not with the rain and wind, but with thunder and lightning. If someone was struck by lightening they could have been killed. We were on a metal boat which conducts lightening. They continue to only discuss the wind and rain which were not the main issues. They do not even acknowledge that is was thundering that evening but I have a video which proves that it was thundering and there was lightening that evening,

Final Business Response /(4000, 21, 2018/09/20) */
Good afternoon,
We understand the concerns. However, we were within our operational rights to be on the water. The radar was not indicating under and lightening for our area simply rain and wind which is why we proceeded. It was not until the end of the tour that the weather was changing even more so we took to shore as protocol suggests. We return to dock to wait for the system to pass.

We take ship safety to heart and followed protocol.
