OuterPhilly Computer Services Reviews (1)

Review: [redacted], owner of Outerphilly Computer Services, advised that he could build me a custom computer with 4 gigs of memory(life time warranty), an MSI motherboard (3 yr warranty),DVD, 1 yr warranty, power supply(5 yr. warranty) with Windows 7. He said he would order all parts new and I paid him via check #[redacted] on April 26, 2013, for the computer and installation a total of $435.00. He installed my new PC after transferring my old hard drive info to the new PC but it didn't work properly. Three separate times I make over 20 calls to him over a few days each time to ask him to help me print, access PDF files, receive and send messages which were not working on the new PC. After over 3 days he finally answered the phone and told me that his computer, phones and TV were down and he couldn't call or receive messages. He came to the house and helped me with some issues. Then, after 2 days, more issues cropped up as I was using the PC more - so I called him again - he did not answer for three days but finally emailed me telling me he had Verizon issues again and saying he was at a friend's house using the computer. He came to the house again and he worked on my issues which I thought were solved. I paid him another $440 for constructing a website, choosing a domain name and hosting the site for a year. I found out today that he put the domain name and hosting info in his name only and I cannot access it. Also, when I went on the site, [redacted], and sent myself a contact email pretending to be a student in need of tutoring, when I hit submit, it took me to a page that said the website was unavailable or deleted. He was supposed to hook up my external hard drive(that I paid for) to my new computer but he had taken it home with him to look for a case to fit it(according to him) and he did not return my old computer nor my old hard drive. He absolutely refuses to answer any calls, emails or text messages. Yesterday I had another computer service come to help to get my PC up and running since [redacted] refused to answer me, and I paid them $135.00. I also asked them to look at my new computer built by [redacted]. The hard drive had logged in almost 20,000 hours of use and the mother board was not MSI, but an ASUS. The temperature gauge is broken on the unit as well. This tech wrote up everything and gave it to me, as I have already met with the local [redacted] police and am meeting with them again tomorrow with everything documented. They will attempt to recover my items that he has, as well as money for defective merchandise.Desired Settlement: Want my hard drive from my Dell PC in tact with all the info on it, my external hard drive that I purchased, [redacted]'s name removed from having any association with the domain names for my website of [redacted] and [redacted] and my name inserted in place of [redacted]'s. I want the website taken down since no one can contact me via it, as it doesn't work. I want restitution for the cost of a new computer which has old parts dating back to pre 2007 in the amount of $360.00 and $440.00 for the website, hosting and domain names.

Response:

[redacted],

On Friday, May 24, 2013 I received a phone call from Officer [redacted] of the [redacted] Police Department informing me of this report by [redacted]. Officer [redacted] informed me that [redacted] would like her old desktop computer, which she had told me originally that she did not want back, and her 3.5 inch Western Digital internal hard drive, which was in the process of being placed in an external hard drive enclosure, returned to her. I informed Officer [redacted] that it would not be a problem at all to make that happen and told him I would have the items ready for him within 15 minutes of hanging up the phone with him. A short time later Officer [redacted] arrived at my house with [redacted] to pick up the items.

During the time they were here, [redacted] went further into these issues she is claiming in this complaint. Concerning the website - before I even began work on constructing [redacted]'s website we went over the various aspects of owning a website. During the discussion, we went over the choices for hosting where I informed [redacted] that she could either rent her own server for her website or I could host it on my server which is the same server I utilize for my website as well as 7 or 8 others. [redacted]l chose to have the website hosted on my server which would be the more cost effective option. [redacted] also stated that she would have me handle her website being that she knows nothing of web design or the aspects of hosting. As for why my name was on her website's domain as the registrant is because I was still in the process of completing the website. The last conversation I had with [redacted] before this whole fiasco began was concerning the fine tuning of the website prior to it being completely finished. As for the billing and administrator titles of the website, being they are hosted on my server, they have to remain in my name. As I told [redacted] on Friday after she informed me that she planned on finding other hosting options, I would gladly perform the transfer of her website to her own server and all I would need from her is the transfer information needed once she provides that information to me via email. However, as of this date, I have yet to receive this information. As for [redacted]'s claims that her email is not working for [redacted], I just now tested it once again personally to be sure and found it to be in perfect working order.

Concerning the external hard drive that [redacted] claims she paid for, if she would choose to recall, I told her I could probably find her an enclosure for her 3.5 inch Western Digital hard drive that she purchased some years ago since I have a number of them at home. However, I did NOT charge her any money for the drive as I informed her I would NOT charge her being that I typically get these older enclosures for free myself.

Concerning [redacted]'s claims that the computer was constructed of used parts, I discussed this in detail with Officer [redacted] and [redacted] on Friday. I believe that during that conversation Officer Lynch, [redacted] and I had, we discussed every aspect of her claims in detail and to the point that I do not need the need to reiterate them in detail in this claim since they were already explained to a police officer. I understand [redacted] claims to have spoken to another local computer repair company but it is obvious they are obviously just trying to get her to purchase repairs on her desktop that she does not need. Before I brought the desktop to [redacted]'s residence, all hardware was thoroughly tested, benchmarked and reviewed to ensure the computer was working at top capacity as I do with every computer that I sell. [redacted]'s claims that the temperature gauge is broken is utterly ridiculous being that any computer manufactured in this century would shut off automatically if overheating. I will state however that there are numerous differences between the claim that [redacted] placed with your organization compared to the one I heard on Friday with Officer [redacted].

And finally, concerning [redacted]'s desired outcome, I will not be issuing any form of refund to [redacted]. I provided [redacted] with the computer she agreed to purchase as stated above, I spent numerous hours at [redacted]'s place of residence performing numerous repairs to her laptop computer as well as configuring numerous items on her new desktop that were beyond the purchase of a new desktop such as Outlook email configuration to her Verizon account, tuneup on her old desktop prior to her purchasing the new desktop from me, configuration for the use of pdf files that [redacted] had somehow set to open up in Microsoft Word and many other issues. Finally, I spent 10 1/2 logged hours constructing [redacted], placing the text and pictures [redacted] chose on the website and going to [redacted]s residence once again to set up her Microsoft Outlook for use with the email address she chose, [redacted] However, as with any computer repair company, I cannot be held responsible for any tampering or changed settings on behalf of the computer's owner. When I configured [redacted]'s Outlook to use her new email address I tested it, which happens both while setting up the email as well as well as after it is configured, and found it to be working perfectly at that time. As for the hosting and domain names, they are charged on a yearly basis. [redacted] has already paid for them as of May 6, 2013 and they will expire if still on my server on May 6, 2014. If [redacted] wishes to transfer her domain names and website to her own server then she does so by her choice since she had already agreed to have the domains placed on my server.

I feel that I have done everything within my power to help address the issues that [redacted] is claiming however I will not allow myself to be left uncompensated for all of the hours I have spent between [redacted]’s website, the repairs I have performed for her and the computer that I have built for her.

Thank you for your time in this matter and if you have any further questions [redacted] please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

[redacted] Owner
