Ozane & Sons

Ozane was hired to replace a bathroom fan & complete ductwork from 2 bathroom fans & 1 dryer to terminate outside the attic. He came on 2/10/2020 to see what needed to be done, gave an estimate, seemed knowledgeable at the time & planned to return in the morning. He arrived with no parts/supplies & had given no instructions about purchasing any before his arrival. I went with him to the store to buy the supplies. After beginning, he complained it was taking too long to the man he brought with him who told him it would take longer bc it was his first time doing that. He was having trouble getting the bathroom fan out & the new one was too small for the hole already cut, so he said he'd have to complete the job later. I said I'd give him half & pay the other half when the job was complete, but he said he needed it for his next job & wanted all of it then. After about 30 minutes of going back & forth about it, I remained respectful to him & he accused me of being racist, told me I bought the 'cheap stuff? (even though I bought what he picked out) and that it was my fault for buying the wrong size fan, told me I was arguing like a woman (whatever that means), etc. I offered to pay him for the time he'd spent so far, but he said he wasn't leaving without the whole $250. Thinking that the only thing left was to install the correct size fan, I paid him $250 in cash & got a receipt saying 'not finished to complete? in writing with the plan to have him finish the job I'd spent the money on. I bought the correct fan size & came home to inspect his work. He'd left a hole in the side of my house, ductwork longer than regulations and unsupported, used no elbow joints, damaged insulated ducts in the attic, & there was no caulk under the vent he did install. I called him and said not to come back. I was not comfortable with his ability to complete the job and didn't want him around my family again. I requested my money back via text message on 2/13/20 and he said he wouldn't give it back.
