Horrible to deal with. Dishonest
Hired Ozinga to complete roofing job. Gave them 50% deposit and then refinanced project. Upon completion, owner was paid by finance company with an overpayment of 10k. That amount was supposed to be given to me immediately. Never happened. Owner held onto overpayment for few weeks. Eventually, I received part of the overpayment. I’m still owed 3k. Phone calls and texts produced no response. Now, I’m taking owner to court to get paid. This has been horrible experience. Would not recommend this company to anyone.

Dear Revdex.com,
We are in receipt of your letter dated 11/7/2016 on 11/10/2016 via USPS.   If you wish to communicate via email going forward our email address is [redacted]
First let us apologize for the problem and having to deal with this issue.  Our intent is to provide the highest level of customer satisfactions and customer service.  We pride our company and hold our employees accountable for delivering exceptional service and support.  As Mr. [redacted] has indicated in his complaint, Ozinga Roof Systems was the second contractor he hired to work on his roof.   When we were called out and contracted to do work in the Spring time of 2016.  We were explicitly hired to replace rotted wood that was under the existing shingles near the bottom edge close to the gutter on the upper right side of the structure.   We were not hired to do anything else but mainly replace rotted wood.   We were not hired to find or fix any leaks.  We had a crew of 3 men on his property for 4 hours and charged him $400.
Ozinga Roof Systems was removing and replacing rotted wood that was caused by a leak that was previously there from some other location.  The amount of rot was extensive and wherever the leak or water penetration was occurring from had been happening for and extended period of time.   We explained all this to Mr. [redacted].   We were also instructed to use the customer supplied shingles, not ours.   Mr. [redacted] was of the strong opinion that the rotted wood was caused by ice damage which we tried to tell him may be true however, while on the roof doing the work, we noticed that the chimney located above or uphill from the rotted wood needed to be flashed and repaired.  We informed Mr. [redacted] of this and that this could also be the cause of his rotted wood and where the leak was coming from.  We offered to repair the chimney at an additional cost however he declined.  At no charge to Mr. [redacted] we did however do our best to caulk the area to the best of our ability but provided no guarantee that this would fix the problem.   Caulking was a quick fix and we used what we had not the job at the time.  The amount of material was minor however flashing the chimney would have been the right way to fix any leaks but again Mr. [redacted] declined to have us do that work. We also at no charge to Mr. [redacted] removed his gutter guards, cleaned the gutters and power washed them.
Water penetration is difficult to determine on roofs unless you can expose the entire area by removing all the shingles.  Water seeks it’s own path and will naturally gravitate to the lowest point when the leak can be far away at a much higher point.
As far as the poor communication near the end of October, we admit this and take full responsibility.  Ozinga Roof Systems is a family run business by John and Tonya O[redacted].   Tonya passed away unexpectedly on Oct 16th.   She ran the day to day business operations, front office and scheduling.    Needless to say, it’s taken us a few weeks to pull everything together and get back on our feet.  We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration for Mr. [redacted].  We feel it’s best to just part ways and have Mr. [redacted] hire another contractor to do the work that should have been done in the first place.
Kind Regards,
John F[redacted]

There was no offer to do anything, except explain away everything with partial truths and outright lies. He never followed up on our complaint by calling me and looking at the problem in person or sending one of his men to look. The bill that I paid did include extra leak fixing around the chimney flashing, indicating that it wasn't done right and that what he did would fix it permanently (almost). How can he detail the problem without an on site inspection? He can't!

We're sorry again that your continuing to have problems.  Our position doesn't change and we feel it's best if you call a third roofing company to come out and examine the project and work with them on a resolution to find where the water intrusion is coming from.   We did our best with what you were willing to pay and furthermore you didn't take or trust our original diagnosis of the problem.

Kind regards,
Ozinga Roof Systems.
John

Review: On 11/04/2015, I contacted Mr. Ozinga to repair a leak on my roof, which had been replaced approximately 10 years ago. I showed Mr. Ozinga that the leak appeared to be on the side of a dormer. I asked for a price, and also a price on gutter leaf removal. He explained that he had a "special" for $199 where they would seal as many as 3 leaks, replace up to 26 shingles, seal chimney and vent flashings, and clean all gutters for this price. I also had him write a receipt and guarantee. After climbing the ladder, Ozinga told me that the dormer had no apron flashings and that it would cost more. I explained I had 1 leak, did not need chimney and vent sealed, and he agreed to fix leak and clean all gutters for the $199. Ozinga did all his work from a ladder,I had never seen a roofer afraid to go on a roof before. I paid him contracted $199 when he said all work was complete. The following day, I noticed a 6-8' section of gutters that were never cleaned on back of house, at time of service, I even offered worker a pole to aid with removal of these leaves. I called Ozinga and he said he would return, but never did. A week later it rained, my roof still leaked. After calling him again, he became belligerent on the phone , and yelled that he had done $400 worth of work. He later called back and apologized for his irateness. He promised a total of 5 different dates that he would come back and fix the situation for no extra charge, and NEVER returned. The last time I called him he pretended that he was not Ozinga, even though I recognized his voice and claimed he didn't know who I was. This man is a habitual liar, a hack, and a scammer. He also took pictures of my dormer prior to work, and promised to send me photos...he never did. Inclement weather was NOT an issue in fixing my roof during the past 5 weeks. I have pictures and recordings of all of his phone calls. I have also found that he has a somewhat shady past, and previously did his scam from [redacted] in [redacted] before coming here.Desired Settlement: Full refund of $199 for NOT cleaning all gutters as contracted, and for NOT fixing the leaking roof where I had shown him. I also do NOT want him on my property ever again. Absolutely NO TRUTH in Advertising.........................Pa. Lic# 113376

THE SECOND COMPLAINT DAVID RHOADES IS NOT A CUSTOMER! HE OWNS A ROOFING COMPANY IN HERMITAGE PA AND HAS OVER 15 LAWSUITS PENDING AGAINST HIS COMPANY. HE ACTUALLY GOES ON ALL THE HOME IMPROVEMENT SITES AND MAKES FALSE REVIEWS OF MY COMPANY. THE STATEMENT HE JUST MADE AGAINST MY COMPANY IS ACTUALLY HOW HE RUNS HIS BUSINESS. HE HAS CHANGED HIS COMPANY NAME MULTIPLE TIMES TO HIDE FROM HIS LAWSUITS.

THIS CUSTOMER IS PRESENTING FALSE INFORMATION. WE MADE EVERY ATTEMPT TO HELP. WE DID NOT INSTALL HIS ROOF PITZULO BROS DID. WE MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO SATISFY THIS CUSTOMER AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. YOU CAN TELL BY THE LANGUAGE OF THIS COMPLAINT THAT THIS PERSON IS JUST TRYING TO ENGAGE IN NAME CALLING. WE DO OUR BEST TO ACHIEVE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION WITH EVERY HOME OWNER BUT UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE YOU CANNOT.

I have read your review and you are absolutely correct about this man and his company. He is a huge scam artist and always will be. I would like to figure out how he has over 9 OVI's and is still operating a vehicle. He puts up posts about hiring people who are not drug addicts and criminals however he is a addict, drunk and criminal himself. His whole crew are adicts, drunks and criminals. Ozinga is a bad man and always will scam and scheme to keep his busy going. He is a miserable person and very ignorant and not professional at all. He treats people with the utter most disrespect and is very rude to consumers. He has been known to go on roofs and break things on purpose to make more money and scam his customers. His whole crew are criminals and they all have drug charges as well as criminal theft and breaking and entering charges including John Ozinga. He is a fraudulent man. He not only scams his customers but the IRS, Workers Compensation, as well as any other person he can scam. He should not be able to have a business license. He has a known fugitive out of Florida working on his crew and he knows he does and does no care. The crew members get high on the jobs as well as work intoxicated and have drugs on their person while they are all working. It is absurd that he knows that all this is happening and does not care to do anything about it. He puts on a good front and tries to make his company look good but all in all he is a bad man, runs a company that should not be allowed to even be working on roofs with the members of the crew he has working for him. He lets known fugitives and Parolees work together knowing they should not be allowed too. He had done a roof for my family and when the crew left we went out to make sure everything was cleaned up and found drug paraphamalia on our family property. We called our local police department and in return was told nothing can be done if they was not present when found. His crew memebers talk so bad about him when he is not around because of how ignorant this man is and how he is aware of the problems and wrong doings his crew is doing and he overlooks it all. He should be shut done and license revoked as soon as possible before he continues to scam more innocent people. I know of known roofing companies one in particular that have to be called to come fix his mess ups and not so quality work when he and his crew are finished due to when they call him to repair the problem he wants to charge them again for their screw ups or completely ignore the calls or texts and then becomes very irrate and ignorantly rude to the persons calling about he and his crew messing up their property that they already had paid for. I hope someone can shut him down once and for all.
