P. Salonna & Sons Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: On 7/26/13, I hired [redacted] from P. Salonna & Sons to replace both front & back steps with concrete. 1 month later he replaced both steps-date of completion was 9/13/13. Upon completion of work, he stated not to use Salt during the winter season, which I did not. Calcium chloride was purchased & used that winter. I noticed that my front steps (back step were never used) were starting to disintegrate, causing me to track concrete into my living room. I contacted [redacted] on 2/18/14, 5 months after completion of steps his response" I'll get back to you within 2 weeks". As of today no response. He has also been informed that concrete was dropped on my lawn & on the side of my steps where my perennials grew. The concrete has ruined the growth of both. I have also noticed that my side steps are discolored and have small chips. After 5 phone calls & 1 registered letter he has still not addressed the issue. I have read & re-read his contract & nowhere does it state what should be used or not used on new concrete.Desired Settlement: I would like to hire a DIFFERENT Mason to correct these issues and I feel that P. Salonna & Son should be head accountable.

Response:

Around the end of the summer of 2013; I replaced [redacted] front and side steps. They were deteriorating and falling apart. I explained to them that her old steps were falling apart due to applications of, ice melting products.

I built her a new set of steps and she was extremely happy with them. I did explain to her as I do all my customers, not to use any ice melting products at all especially for the first year when the concrete is fully curing. Ice melting products should never be used. This was the reason the first set of steps failed.

I rec‘d a phone call from [redacted] that her steps were falling apart again. When I asked what she had done, she replied she placed ice melting products on her steps. I instantly reminded her of our conversation of no ice melting products at all for the- first year, stopping by to see the job myself. It was apparent ice melting products were used. I told her I would fix them even though this was not my fault. However a material fee of $600 had to be paid. I would not charge her for any of my labor time.

I tried several times to make her happy but we could not come to any compromise. I have never had a complaint of my marksmanship in my business of 30 yrs and don‘t want to start: now.
