If you are looking at this review, it is because you talked to Jeff with Padspin and expressed a bit of doubt - maybe about his business model, maybe about how quickly he's pressing you to put money down on a place, whatever's got him impatient in the moment. The first thing he'll tell you is that Padspin is an absolutely legitimate company that's accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and if you do a quick Google search, you'll see Padspin's BBB page as a top result and maybe scroll through some glowing reviews and think alright cool, I guess I'm being overly cautious.

But you'll notice upon further inspection that while that page exists and has some reviews on it, Padspin is not, in fact, accredited by the Better Business Bureau. And if you do a bit more digging, you'll find that Padspin isn't so much a company as it is our friend Jeff, alone, scrambling as fast as he can to fill apartments for whoever has been confused into working with him. And his reviews are just awful. So awful he's hidden his Yelp page so you can't find it. Is that necessarily going to be a bad thing for you? No. He might get you a place, and he might do it really quickly. He asks for way too much information, expects you not to ask questions when he tells you to put a large amount of money down just to apply for a place, gets irritable when you ask him to provide receipts, and is generally unclear about what his relationship is to the landlord he's trying to hook you up with. But! If you use a patient customer service voice and are good at saying no and asking questions in a way that doesn't upset him, he will in fact produce a cheap apartment for you very quickly. I do not know how nor do I wish to know how, because if I had to guess, I'd say he took my application info and just absolutely fudged it to make it look better. Which y'know. That's on him, not me. I get a text Sunday morning from JL of Padspin, following up on an apartment rental I was interested in. I responded that it was one of my top 3 choices and that I was ready to tour. JF from Padspin then calls me, and engages in a lively conversation about what their company is all about (which is very ideal sounding about helping people and cancelling pointless brokers' fees where 'why should you pay them thousands just to open a door for you?', while at the same time, asking unnecessarily personal questions such as, How often do you drive? Where do you drive to? Who do you see? Which I did not respond to. He did also helpfully brainstorm ways to avoid using a parking garage, by saying that since we only use the car two times a month, we could use street parking since it is very safe and we can check data on car robberies and crime by neighborhood'. (Hmm.. car robberies? They have data on that by neighborhood?) Anyways, he asks me if I can visit the same day. I'm like, it's like a 2 hour drive! What about tomorrow. So he says he will call on Monday morning to confirm for Monday afternoon. Okay. Cool. Monday morning, after texting to see if 3pm would work, MG from Padspin calls me and we confirm the details of the meeting. She texts me the details, emphasizing "The owner is going out of their way to show you. Must be punctual. When you arrive buzz Apt. #101 and you'll be let in." Also, in a rushy tone, writing, "We are sending other renters directly after you. If interested, call me right away to take the apartment off the market so no one else but you can apply. Please confirm you have read ALL above and will be there on time at 3:00 pm. " I think, oh yeah, sounds good, I am usually aka ALWAYS on time. Fine, almost always. We get there at 2:26. I text her. She tells me to call her, and on the phone call, proceeds to tell me in a rushed way that no one will be there to meet me and she wants to make sure I get in the building - the door to the unit will be unlocked and we can just let ourselves in. A resident comes by and enters so we slip in after her and I let MG know we are inside. She says she will text me all the units we can see and texts me a list of ... TEN apartments to go see, spanning from the 1st floor to the 6th floor. First though, we go to #101. It's not that great; kinda messy with paint on the floors. So we start to try the others... and ALL THE DOORS ARE LOCKED. What the . . . I tell her all the doors are locked (texted) and she calls and basically has no solution. Asks if we want to see #302 on the list, but then clarifies we want a 2 bedroom, not a studio, so there's no point in seeing the studio (more confusion)... then in similar rushed tone of voice, but also very chipper and professional sounding, reminds me to let her know right away, possibly NOW, if I want the apartment, due to OTHER RENTERS. um, I need some time. She then asks me to take a video of the place to see the conditions of it, and I'm like, I'd love to take a leisurely video for you, but we couldn't find a street parking spot (as JF was praising as so easy to find, in Flushing, Queens), and are illegally parked. I do not want to get an expensive parking ticket on top of all this current disappointment. Ha. She's like, ok, and just reminds me to let her know a *decision* as soon as possible. So we drive back, have some food, rest up, and at 6:04, I text her 'so we didn't like #101, but another 2-bedroom, at a higher level, that is cleaned, would be good'. And she responds right away, with the padspin.com link and tells me to go there and search. Very helpful. Especially since, previously when I searched the area, only 1 other listing came up, in the same building. So many strange behaviors. Why send a list of 10 empty apartments at all different floors then, just to tell me to do a search myself...? So yeah, not a good experience. It was a long and tiring drive, with the puppy . . . driving in Queens is very difficult because there are a lot of people and a lot of drivers there... and a lot of inaccurate instructions and directions from her. We rushed to find a parking spot to not make the owner have to wait, only to find, the owner would actually not be meeting us. We only saw one unit instead of all the other ones she texted me. And then she basically ended the interaction when I responded with my opinion/feedback to our one viewing. Lol . . . so yeah . . I don't know about their idealistic business plan. Overall, I'd say, very disrespectful and/or incompetent behavior, which contrasts with what was expressed on initial phone calls which made their work sound very well thought out and well-designed. And this all happened over the course of 2 days (Sunday and Monday). My head is spinning and I am tired. -_______-
