Total extortionist rip-off.

ER walk in discharged in about 6 hours, $230 charge x 2 for lab urology/hematology but added $3266 unspecified lab-chemistry charge. $28 pharmacy charge, but $3,978 "ER" walk-in fee", no agreed to.

So for about $500 in legitimate appearing charges Palomar wants $8382.10?

Fk Palomar.

Like getting a bill from a restaurant for $3200 kitchen fee and $3900 admission fee in addition to menus items.

Complete rip off. Any place as this should be audited. We need to stop these rip off fees as the first step in addressing out of control health care costs.

I was insured under medicaid but they denied it as a rip off and now this sleezy Palomar institute raises the price.

At the top of the chart in preventable hospital in-patient death is blood clots, also known as, Pulmonary Embolisms (PE) or Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). My husband died at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido California because they decided not to treat him with blood thinner. The Pulmonary Embolism (PE) was detected early, also concerning was the DVT (clots in his legs). Rather then putting him on a life-saving blood thinner they instead opted for a Inferior Vena Cava Filter and to remove him from Heparin. He died within two-weeks after they removed him from blood thinners. His death was preventable! Unfortunately hospitals are no longer accountable for neglect and poor medical judgement, even if the patient dies in their care.

We received information that the patient was not satisfied with our response. We contacted the patient a second time and again informed her that the credit card company did not pay Palomar Health at her instruction. Palomar Health did not receive a payment for this account. The patient informed us she would contact her credit card company and nothing more was needed from Palomar Health. The patient has agreed to a long term payment plan with Palomar Health.

My brother was in an accident at work. He was brought to Palomar and has received minimal care, disinformation, and confusion about his health state. The same thing happened to my mother a few years ago. I never thought I would have to leave a review about a hospital. But the Doctors at this place are disorganized, unprofessional, and have no regard for the well being of their patients. My brother is still in extreme pain after his accident and the only thing that has been working is the medication given to him via I.v. I feel he is being sent home too early and has not received the correct treatment and review of his condition. If I had a choice I would never wish upon anyone to have to come to Palomar Hospital.

Hello, We are working to resolve this issue with the patient directly.  Due to HIPAA regulations, we are unable to share with you any patient information and correspondence regarding their care.  Thank you.

at approx 11123am I went into
the er at Palomar Hospital with a bee sting.
The fourth one in a month, and I am allergic.
An RN greeted me, I told him the situation, he
passed me to the receptionist an d told me to
have a seat. I have lamost died from these
before, and after 25 minutes, or a half hour
after being stung, I approached him again, he
told me I was not anaphylactic because my
chest was not tight and I was breathing OK,
he did check my lungs, the only vitals he
took. I told him I needed a Benadryl which I
usually immediately take, check my records,
I was in the same er by ambulance on 7-26-
2017. He went and talked to a triage nurse,
who after another 5 minutes took me in, my
hands were starting to tingle and itch. I was
stung on the back of my neck, he only took a
cursory glance at it, didn't check for stinger,
and triage nurse called me. after taking my
bp, 133/87, high for me I have a plastic aorta,
I told him because the meds I was on I
needed to eat as I fade, and could hejsut get
me a Beneadryl, on my last visit I was
immediately treatred with an IV of Benadryl
after taking 25mg at home, here it was now
45 minutes after being stung, and no
treatment even offered. He asked about my
meds, like I was a junkie, I'm not, and then
left to try to find me a Benedryl. Returning
after 10 minutes, he couldn't find one, but left
his computer screen on, where I could see all
the patients seen that morning, and their
personal info including health. I told him I
was going home to ea and take a Benedryl
and would call 911 if I needed to. He insisted
I sign an AMA form, but I never saw doctor,
was offered no treatment, and left. Before
leaving the hospital I wanted totalk to an
administrator, a nurse named Chad came
out, his opening line was "we screwed up, we
failed, what can we do?" How did he know
so fast? I refused going back, I have no trust
in them at all, and left 11 messages for execs
from CEO to customer service at Palomar.
Only two responded, one Nancy Wood the
ceo's secretary, who assured me she would
call me back after 3pm on 8-16, no call. I
talked with Tina Pope on 8-16 in the am, she
would contact me to set up appt, she knew
Nancy and they would be my point of
contact. No call again, I left each a message,
Tina last night, Nancy this morning, no
response. When I got home I took the
benadryl, and rested, my neck swelled and
hurting, and red. I have had a stiff neck and
swelling for two days, taking Benedryl and
8/17/17 9:44 AM Page 3 of 3
resting with Tylenol. My wife and I have not
slept well for two nights, I did get 2 hours
last night. HELP! I am not sure what to do, I
have an appt. with my primary doctor on
Monday, emotionally I am a bit scared,
physically most of the condition has passed.
In the past 5 years I have been stung 15-20
times and each er visit was immediately
addressing the issue. The er was not busy
that day, I am on Medicare, what are they
hiding? Maybe you can find out, meanwhile
what do I do? I checked the physicians and
surgeons although I never saw a doctor, was
offered no treatment, and left no better than
when I arrived except for aggravation more to follow, call me please!

My 24 year old son was brought to the emergency department yesterday because of vomiting, stomach pain, and severe dehydration. He suffers from Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, a rare condition where one will vomit for hours or days straight. Anyway, he had been to this hospital before for treatment. I guess they had no available rooms so they put him in the hallway, after about 3 hours in the hall waiting to see a doctor she finally shows up. She says to my son smoking marijuana still? He says not as much Ive cut back. She then asks if hes in pain, how much has he been vomiting etc. She then excuses herself and when she returns she has a totally different attitude. In the hallway with approx. 15 to 20 other people she starts in "So you have really done it up good this time havent you, you have been messing in all kinds of drugs since the last time I saw you". My son is like what are you talking about, she says your drug screen report shows positive for thc, opiates, amphetamines. I asked her are you sure, she says yes positive I can print it out if you dont believe me. My son says I have never done any amphetamines she says well who knows what your grower puts in your pot and who knows what you will do when you get that damn high. She then tells him that his body is basically ready to shut down and say its had enough, tells us he has fatty liver disease and basically he is a druggie and this is a slap in the face for him. Hes telling her there is no way that is true...she tells him well I can print it up and she leaves. Im so angry at this point I actually believed her I mean why wouldnt I she was a professional I thought. I doubted my son over this person . I was so upset that basically she said he was dying, his body was shutting down. Then about an hour later she comes strolling up and says I need to clarify my self, not apologize, clarify herself that she had read the wrong persons report and that he didnt test positive for amphetamines, body wasnt shutting down, didnt have fatty liver disease. She tells him he is severely dehydrated and we are going to help you and get you something for pain and walks away. Are you frigging kidding me?How is it that these incompetent people are allowed to practice in a hospital ? Her name by the way is April Theisen a PA who works in the emergency department of Palomar Hospital. I will be filing a formal complaint tomorrow. Thank you Cathi Laughin RE: Matthew Roberts

Review: COMPLAIN: why do you have an emergency room?- who could help?I had a very strong pain in the neck, and in the head, and a bump on the right side. That pain was gradually increasing, and suddenly became intolerable. I was afraid of the blood clod. My husband drove us to emergency room on Friday, March 20, 2015. At at 2pm we checked in Escondido new building of Emergency service of the Palomar Hospital. I have an insurance Health net PPO, but came to the emergency with the hope to get help faster. However, there I did not get even a pill for the pain relief. I got a lot of bureaucrats and hostile people writing and doing something, running around, back and forth, who did not pay any attention to me.We were waiting there for 4 hours in a very cold lobby. I several times asked for a blanket, but got it only in 1hour later. Then, another hour I was waiting for a blood test. But when I asked to give me a copy of it, I was refused. Since it is my blood and I paid for it there, I needed to have that blood test. Finally, after 4 hours of waiting and getting no help, we left home at the same condition as we came: with the strong pain in the neck and in the head and with no help or any kind service. It was not a long line in the Emergency place when we got there. But it was nobody around me when I left that place 4 hours later and with no help at all. I even did not get any pain relief medicine, which would be logical to give to a person with the strong pain in the neck and head.Anybody could be dead during that waiting time and nobody would care for you at that place. It was the worth experience I ever had anywhere on the planet. We have been living in many countries, but nowhere experience such a bad service as in Palomar Hospital (Emergency room (2185 Citracado Parkway, Escondido, CA 92029, 442.281.5500).It was the worth experience I ever had anywhere on the planet. We have been living in many countries, but nowhere experience such a bad service as in Palomar Medical Center (PMC)Desired Settlement: I don't want they would be paid for my visit since there was no help obtained.I require to get the blood test to me by mail

Review: except for a few nurses and my doctors, it was the most horrible experience I ever had in my life. coming out of recovery was a horror that I would only wish my enemy's. the nurses were more concerned about when they where leaving. I developed several sores in my mouth from no moisture which I continued to complain about. the pain medication would only be given to me when I was screaming in pain. the nurses would not follow up on the doctors orders with the nurses on the floor I was on. the day after my 11 hours in and out of surgery, billing comes to my room to ask me for a check. I have 2 iv's going at the same time can hardly move and they want my copay. they had all my info, and they would not bring my wallet into the hospital in the first place. it was a demeaning experience when you are help less and especially when you pay all this money for health care to be treated like this. there is very little comfort at this place.Desired Settlement: change of staff is needed in several areas especially your recovery room. your nurses have to much to handle and most of their support is substandard. your billing should be taken care of in the beginning or after not during. basically you need to replace a lot of management.

Dear Mr. [redacted],

I am writing in response to the complaint you filed with the Revdex.com (Revdex.com) on July 16, 2014 about your visit to the new Palomar Medical Center on March 21-25, 2014. It is our goal to provide excellent care and service to all our patients and we regret this did not happen for you.

I have forwarded your comments to Rosie Ross, Director of Surgery & Procedures, asking her to investigate your concerns with the recovery room. I have also forwarded your comments to [redacted], Director of Acute Care Services, asking her to investigate any concerns you have about the 4th floor. In addition, I have forwarded your concerns regarding the request for your co-payment to [redacted], Manager of Patient Access, to investigate.

Thank you for speaking up and letting us know where we need to improve. Although we cannot change the experience you had with us, your comments will help us continue to improve the care we provide.

Sincerely,

Review: On January 30, 2014, I called my orthopedic surgeon to request an appt. because I fell in the Philadelphia Airport on January 18, 2014, re-injuring my left leg that was operated on November 29, 2013. The accident occurred in my apartment in San Marcos, CA. After two of my wrought iron bar stools fell on my left leg, I fractured two bones and had surgery to repair the tib-fib fractures. A titanium rod was placed in the left leg. After the fall in Philly, I waited about a week and a half, but the pain was intolerable. I called the surgeon who operated on me to make an appt. to see him. I was told by his assistant that he was out of town, and she suggested that I go to Palomar Hospital's ER. So I did go, and waited hours before I could be seen. I am battling cancer as well, and the wait seemed endless. Finally I was seen by a nurse, who took down my info and the reason why I was there. After explaining the above situation, there was a man in a white lab coat typing on a laptop. He never looked at me, continued typing, and began to speak. In essence, I came to learn that he was an attending physician, who never identified himself, and began what I call a "personal attack" against me. He strongly insinuated that I was a drug addict who only came to the ER for drugs. I tried to explain the situation, but he interrupted me again and again. He basically said that I was only there to get pain meds. He NEVER looked at me, nor checked my leg, or requested an X-Ray be taken to see if there was any further damage to my leg. He was arrogant, condescending, and very rude. After the bantering back and forth, he handed me a script for a small amount of pain meds. To make matters worse, I was billed $1,000 for a 15 minute personal attack on my integrity, no looking at my leg, or X-Rays taken on my leg. On May 22, 2014, I received a bill from this doctor for $218.70 for services NOT rendered. I called to complain but was told that he was not a network doctor so therefore he was billing for that non exam. I called Palomar for a third time with no results. They keep telling me that someone will call me, but no one ever does. The name of the doctor is [redacted], who in my opinion did not perform the required duties of his profession. He is a very brash individual without any feelings for the patient. He accused me of things that were simply not true. He failed the oath that all doctors take upon graduating medical school. So in essence, I am being billed for over $1200 for a 15 - 20 minute visit whereby I was not treated for my swollen leg after the fall. There was a nurse in the room who looked disgusted at the treatment I was given by Mr. [redacted].Desired Settlement: I do NOT want to pay this money for services NOT rendered. It's that plain and simple. That facility already received over $44,000 for the surgery on my leg with only a two day stay at the hospital. Now they want another $1200 additional dollars. I simply do not have the money to pay these bills. My cancer bills are high, along with additional medical problems. I am on a retired educator on a fixed income. The stress is not good for my recovery. This issue with Palomar has increased my stress levels to heights that I am depressed and have to endure painful and itchy hives. The fact that no one has contacted me over this incident only adds to my stress, which increases my pain levels twofold.
