We had a situation where a puppy jumped on the sleeping older dog and startled him. The puppy received a small puncture wound to his cheek. This happened right before being picked around 5pm. I advised the client that she should take him to the vet if it started bleeding again and she told me her vet was open till 8pm. The client arrived at the vet just after 8pm as an emergency and the vet said that a puppy tooth had been broken and needed to be removed. For some unknown reason they re-booked an appointment for this surgery 4 days later. The total of both bills was almost $[redacted]. Why was the procedure not done during the initial emergency visit? Why did the client not request a quote for the work to be done? How many puppy teeth were removed as a result of this bite? Why did the client have non related extractions done apparently at "their cost" at the same time?
Pampered paws does everything we can to avoid these situations however when there is no fault, the owner is responsible for the vet bill. Despite our Release of Indemnity (a copy of which is attached), we offered, as a customer service measure, to assist the owner with vet bills. Unfortunately, the owner has seen fit to post defamatory comments on social media, to which we feel compelled to reply. Given the lack of disclosure surrounding the additional work done, I withheld.
The older dog had been with us for almost two weeks prior to this incident, and during that two week period showed no signs of nervousness or aggression.
We value our reputation and all of our customers, and wish to bring this unfortunate incident to a close.
We will continue to provide the same quality care of service as we have in the past for your loved ones.

I agree to release Pampered Paws Inn, it's owners and employees from all liability should any illness or injuries, mild or severe, be inflicted upon my dog while in the care of Pampered Paws Inn. If my dog(s) purposely bite(s) another dog during their stay then I will be responsible for paying the initial full vet bill for the injured dog(s). Employees of Pampered Paws Inn will use our corrective methods to discipline your dog(s) where needed. Pampered Paws Inn will take every precaution to ensure all shots are current however if my dog comes into contact with the Bordetella infection or Fleas, Pampered Paws Inn will not be responsible as the effectiveness of shots can not be guaranteed by a vet. Pampered Paws Inn attempts to screen all dogs for aggression however all incidents cannot be foreseen. Pampered Paws Inn is not responsible for the condition of any non-spayed/neutered dog(s) and does not accept females in heat. Clients leaving their dogs personal effects here are at their own risk. I also agree to pay in full, at time of pick up (or before) of my dog any and all charges incurred. If staff are unable to arrange an appointment with your dogs regular vet then I also give permission to use another Animal Hospital to treat my dog as deemed necessary for my dog's health and well-being and I will be solely responsible for payment and any charges incurred for such care and treatment. My signature on this form is proof of my acceptance to all the terms and conditions above and release of liability clause."
