Panama Bar & Cafe Reviews (1)

Review: My Smith and Wesson pocket knife was taken on August 17th 2013 by an employee at the front door and has not been returned.

I went to panamas with a couple of friends, the front door guy took my pocket knife and told me I could have when I left. We left through a different exit. I called a couple days later to get my knife back. They could not "locate" it they said. I called a few more times every week or so and still they say they cant find it. They asked me to describe the door guy and I did and their response was we have a lot of guys that look like that. They continued to give me the run around. I feel the security guy at the door kept my pocket knife and the bar is letting him keep my property. I tried to explain to them that it was a gift from a few years ago and has sentimental value and I just want the knife back. They told me that If I get a original receipt the could reimburse me, again I explained that it was a gift and I don't have the receipt.Desired Settlement: I want my pocket knife back. I do not see how they are unable to figure out the employee that was working the door. I told them I do not want money I just want the pocket knife returned, I have been waiting for over a month.

Initial Business Response

This Letter is in regards to the complaint from Mr. [redacted] about his missing property. When I

first spoke with Mr. [redacted] he could not remember which door he had originally entered through and

as it took more than a week for Mr. [redacted] to finally give us a confirmation that he had in fact come through the Panama Bar & Cafe entrance and left through The Beach exit. it was difficult for us to find out which of our security staff had in fact been the one to confiscate the knife because our staff does rotate throughout the three bars. Mr. [redacted] could not give any definitive answers as to what time frame he entered our establishment, which door he had entered through and could not give any distinguishable characteristics of the door personnel that had confiscated his knife. Despite Mr. [redacted]'s claims we would never "let" one of our staff members keep guest's personal property that had been confiscated.

We truly regret that Mr. [redacted]'s knife was lost and we did offer to pay for the cost of the

knife. We extend this offer to pay for Mr. [redacted] knife if he could provide a receipt of purchase of the knife in question. We have yet to receive a copy of that receipt. Since this incident we have put further rules in place for confiscated knives that if they are not claimed at the end of the night that they are put directly into the security drop box, the same place all of our bartenders money is put into, and brought up into our office. We do still hope that Mr. [redacted] chooses to continue business with the Three Downtown Bars Association despite this letdown.

We hope this letter is enough to let you realize that we did everything in our power to

investigate the claim of stolen property when given such little information.
