Paquette Electric

On dec. 10th I had water leaking on my electrical panel. I called Paquette Electrical. They said it was a roofing prolem and to call a roofer. On Dec. XX XXXX I had water leaking on my electrical panel. A handyman said to call an electrician immediately. I looked online, in the phone book and in the shoppers guide. I found Paquette Electrical and called them.No where did it say they charged a fee to look at a job. The electrician came that afternoon and within five minutes he stated I had no need of an electrician a it was a roofing problem. He spent sometime talking to a plumber he seemedto know who was working on another job in my house and then he left. He said nothing about any charge for this service. On 12-32-2014 I recieved a bill from Paquette stating that I owed the an $80 fee for having this man tell me he couldn't do the job.I called Paquette Electrical and told them I did not think the charge was valid and I wasn't going to pay it. After several minutes of a very rude conversation with a man named Mike- he said "Well- how about forty dollars then?" I told him I had no intention of paying the bill at all and he was irate. I had four other contractors look at that job and not onr of them charged me a fee for coming to LOOK at the job. Never mind come to the conclusion that it was not an electrical prolem at all within ftve minutes. I feel the charge is completely unfair and unwarranted. I also think he may have been taking advantage of the fact that I am a single woman and a senior citizen and probably thought I wouldn't know better. I think if you are going to charge a consultation fee to look at a job it should be stated on your website in the phonebook or verbally made clear before the contractor comes to the job. I would have never agreed to have him look at the job if I had known there was a charge since there are so many contractors willing to look without a fee.Desired Settlement That they rescind totally and completely any charges to me regarding coming out to look at a job which wasn't even in their realm of capabilities to do. I don't feel I owe them a cent and would never do business withthem again nor would I recommend them to anyone. When Ms [redacted] called our company to request an electrician it was treated as a typical service call by Paquette Electric. The customer had what they thought was an electrical condition we needed to handle so we sent an electrician. Upon arriving he realized it was a roofing issue and not an electrical problem. He informed the customer, came back to the office and completed his worksheet. We bill our customer from the time our electrician leaves our building until he returns. This was one hour. When the customer received the bill, she apparently thought she should not have been charged, although I'm not sure why. We weren't called in to do an estimate, we were called to do service work. After she told me she wouldn't pay and I tried to explain why she was billed, I offered to cut the invoice in half and charge her just $40. She agreed and said she would send payment. That was the last I heard of this until yesterday when I was told we would hear from the Revdex.com. Her claim that we "may have been taking advantage of the fact that I am a single woman and a senior citizen and probably thought I wouldn't know better" is totally unwarranted. I would have no such knowledge of her marital status or age when I complete the billing. Paquette Electric has been in business for over 30 years and has done numerous residential services. This is the first complaint I have had to respond to since I've been employed here. As a note, we have written off the $40 fee and from our viewpoint, consider this a closed issue.
