Have confirmed business owner lied about possessing a business license for the $job he bid
He only has a "Timber Fallers License" & insurance for that work
I am a private resident
The bid was written as $tree cutting + $stump grinding for a total of $
Business
owner never returned to finish work - cutting tree trunks to stumps or stump grinding
Unfortunately we paid him for the tre cutting portion before he returned to finish
I have resolved the problem by paying another "licensed" stump grinding service to finish the work for $
What you do with the info is up to you!

They came and cut down dead or dying trees (Maybe ten.) over the last three years. The price has always been good (More reasonable than the competition.) and they've always done what we asked, and removed the brush leaving us bucked up rounds.

We have been very satisfied with their work, and would recommend them.

Review: My neighbor hired Paradise Tree Service to trim my 3 laurel bay trees that were hanging over his side of the fence and dropping leaves in his yard. [redacted] owner of Paradise Tree Service, came to my home and left a note on his business letterhead that he is being paid by the homeowner to trim the trees and that the owner would pay to have them removed and to call him. I called him and was very specific that he was NOT to remove my trees but he could trim them to about a foot or two above the fence line for privacy. He said he would have no reason to come onto my property and that he understood my wishes and that he had already explained to my neighbor that they couldn't make me pay to trim trees on his side. On Friday, 06/03/2016 while I was at work [redacted] came and trimmed the trees as allowed. 3 days later on Monday, 06/06/2016 [redacted] came back and removed my 3 trees while I was at work by knocking down the fence and accessing my yard through the neighbors side! When I contacted him he told me it is my "f'ing" problem with my neighbor and hung up on me. He told his insurance he was doing fence repair as a favor to a friend which was not true. The owner of the property told police that he had paid $700 to have trees trimmed and then removed because [redacted] had told him I approved it! My trees are gone, my fence has nails feeding ALL the way through them posing a danger to my small children and animals and my yard is destroyed! He trespassed and then destroyed my property and has made no attempt to take responsibility for his actions other than lying to anyone who tries to have him take responsibility.Desired Settlement: I want him to pay someone else as I DO NOT want him on my property to remove the stumps, replant trees and fix the fence he damaged by knocking it down to access my yard without my permission. I would like to have his license revoked through the Logging Contractors office but will do that complaint on my own.

Review: Business owner took job as tree cutting & stump grinding to be completed within 2 weeks due to driveway being put where trees were. [redacted] (business owner) Said he would come back to cut the tree trunks lower with a bigger saw before he could grind them out the next weekend. He had me pay him for the tree cutting while holding back the stump grinding portion of the bid until the stumps were in fact ground out.[redacted] has never returned. I left several messages he never returned. After a month I finally caught [redacted] via the phone where he said he would be out the next weekend to do the grinding. [redacted] did not show up or call. Two weeks later I got [redacted] on the phone & when I asked him to just complete the tree cutting & I would get someone else to grind out the stumps, he told me not to get " pissy " with him. When I replied "I don't have to get " pissy " , [redacted] hung up.I'd give his tree cutters an A until the tree trunks were too big for the saws they brought to the job the second day here.Job was never completed as bid: 1) the tree cutting was not finished 2) the stumps are not ground out 3) contacted business owner about finishing job & he has lied several times then hung up on me when conf[redacted]ted via phone.Desired Settlement: Told business owner I was taking in 3 bids. Business owner purposely bid stump grinding @ low bid without any intention of finishing job on time if at all to win & get tree cutting portion of job. Believe that is why he purposely had me hold back stump portion of payment until he "returned".I believe [redacted] (business owner) should cut trees lower, if needed, then get whomever to complete stump grinding portion of job for price he bid = 5 stumps @$300. I will pay bill.

Response:

Have confirmed business owner lied about possessing a business license for the $1600 job he bid.

Review: I would like to register a complaint against a business in Paradise, California, Paradise Tree Service, owned by Mr. [redacted].

My husband and I requested an estimate for the removal of our dead and dangerous trees on our Paradise property at 5390 Scottwood road in Paradise, California. We met with the contractor from Paradise Tree Service (PTS), [redacted], before the work began and discussed what trees needed to be removed and what was to be done with the wood one they had been removed, We had an agreement that PTS would remove three live trees and two dead trees on our property, the cost would be $750.00 per tree. We had a discussion about the creek on our property and the Department of Fish and Game (DFG restriction on what can and cannot be done in and around the creek.

Mr. [redacted] assured us that he had dealt with DFG as well as Forestry Departments, and once the trees closest to the creek were removed the debris would have to removed immediately so as to not damage the creek in any way.

We asked for an estimate to include fire breaking the property between Scottwood Road and the creek, and were quoted $900.00 a day, including $200.00 a day to pay for my son's employment, on a trial basis. All wood and debris was to be removed or chipped and scattered as mulch. Logs were to be harvested at PTS discretion. Mr. [redacted] also was to acquire permits from the town of Paradise for said work, and we paid those fees as well.

PTS began work several days earlier than expected, this being Monday, July 8, 2014 at approximately 07:30 a.m. The tree removal went smoothly and we do have some videos and pictures of the ongoing work. PTS topped and dropped the trees; chipped scattered and disposed of some of the materials as they worked, including logs left from a tree PG&E had felled.

The remainder of the rounds from topping the trees, as well as logs harvested for sale, were to picked up and removed on that Friday. We were asked to pay in cash on Thursday, prior to the jobs completion, so that Mr. [redacted] could pay his employees on Friday. Cash was acquired from our bank and Mr. [redacted] was paid in full with the expectations of the job being finished completely and in a reasonable amount of time. On July 10, 2014 we wrote up a bank receipt on a Chase Customer Receipt in the amount of $6,090.00 ($6,000 for the original agreed amount and $90.00 for the permit).

After that time, we never saw [redacted] again. He did not remove the harvested wood logs, the log wood rounds, nor the wood chippings and debris along the creek; and also, the access road (the circle driveway around the front of the house) which was completely blocked by tree rounds.

We called and left messages repeatedly, to no avail, asking when this work would be so as not to get in trouble with the DFG. We were finally contacted by Mr. [redacted] after leaving a message threatening legal action. He apologized stating he had:

He had been on vacation.

Did not feel responsible for removing the trees or debris.

Placed blame on one of his subcontractors and said he would never use him again.

Finally agreed to make some calls

The gentlemen Mr. [redacted] claimed to be his subcontractor showed up a week later, cut up and dragged one of the trees out of the creek bed, helped my son clear our access road, and removed a large truck load of wood rounds that PTS had left behind. None of the remaining wood logs or wood rounds were removed by PTS.

We paid Mr. [redacted] in good faith with the agreement that our property was to be cleared of wood and debris. We were charged $750.00 a tree and $900.00 a day to fire break the property. PTS did both jobs at the same time and charged me as if done separately. We paid him $200.00 additional dollars a day for my son's employment, and my son received a total of $325.00, although Mr. [redacted] was more than pleased with my son's work, and promised my son future work. [redacted] worked the entire time PTS worked, and worked for hours after PTS was done for the day. The promised work/job in the future never came to pass.

We personally called Mr. [redacted] several times and left a message on his voice mail, as did my son, After many calls, Mr. [redacted] finally talked to my wife and proceeded to yell aggressively at her over the phone, however, he had never complete the job he was paid for.Desired Settlement: We have no complaints about the actual work of felling the trees and the fire breaking. However, the removal was not completed as agreed and we were overcharged. The customer service we received from PTS was deplorable and unethical, and I would not recommend using the services of Paradise Tree Service in the future.

Respectfully yours, [redacted]a
