Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: In reference to my complaint and the reply, which looks like it was written by someone else for lots of information is incorrect and lots of things were left out, Mr. [redacted] needs to re-read my complaint. I was upfront with Mr. [redacted] when I called him from the shop where my jeep was originally at. I let him know that the application of the fuel pump didn't fix the problem and that it seemed the computer module had to be replaced now according to the mechanic that was working on my jeep but I told [redacted] that I wanted to bring my jeep to a place that does electronic work. [redacted] gave me the impression that he had the tools and the knowledge and told me to tow the jeep to him and I did just that. The first week [redacted] never called. I called him and he tells me that the part had to be ordered. Another week went by and again no call. Now I'm getting his help when calling, only to say that [redacted] was with a customer and that he would call me: again no call from [redacted]. I had no choice in going to his garage for he was very hard to reach. He tells me that the part was coming from Detroit. I told [redacted] upfront for him to keep me posted on what it would cost. The jeep sat in [redacted]'s garage for over 3 1/2 weeks. I finally get a call from [redacted] telling me that the jeep was fixed and to please call him. I call him and I find out that the card was programmed by a 3rd independent party and that the price of the job was $1,498? The breakdown was as follows, $400 for [redacted]'s "diagnostics", $275 for the technician that programmed the card, $750 for the card, plus the tax. I told [redacted] he was to call me beforehand and that I originally thought he had the tools and the knowledge to fix my jeep and that my jeep was worth maybe $2,500. I was shocked and disappointed with [redacted] to say the least. I stop by and picked up the jeep. I immediately realized that when I entered the highway, the jeep didn't have the quickness and response when entering the highway. I let [redacted] know this the next day. [redacted] picked the day and time. I had to take time out from my job. Upon me getting to his shop, I greeted him from the entrance to the driveway of the garage. Time lapsed and I noticed [redacted] was doing menial jobs and more time lapsed and it was like I was invisible. I let [redacted] know that I was being ignored. His response was that he was busy and things come up? I let [redacted] know that he picked the time and date and that I took time out from my job and that I didn't want to lose my job. He then tells me that he will get to look at my jeep later so I decided to have lunch. I come back and my jeep is still just sitting there. I again told [redacted] that he was ignoring me and that I didn't want to lose my job. We finally went on a test ride and he noticed what I was talking about. He now tells me that it could be the motor or the transmission or that the jeep may need a tune up? I notice [redacted] was rambling when talking to me on what the problem was. He added that he would call the tech that programmed the card for I suggested that maybe the tech didn't download the latest program. I received a call a week later and [redacted] left a recorded message telling me that the tech applied the most recent program and never heard from [redacted] again.  I discovered that [redacted] replaced my computer module with  remanufactured card for it says it on the part itself. Not only did [redacted] charged me twice for labor with his charges of $400 and $275 for the person that did the programming but he also price gouged on the remanufactured part charging me $750 when I looked up the part brand new at a cost of $346 on the internet. His response was that he's allowed to make a profit? This is not making a profit, this was outright price gouging on both labor and padding pricing on the part. When I asked to see what he paid for the part, his response was that he had to find the receipt. The bottom line was that my jeep sat in his garage for 3 1/2 weeks and he simply was stalling in buying time in getting this tech when he was available with his schedule. As far as I'm concerned, [redacted] never had the tools and the knowledge to fix my jeep. It seems that his shop is solely to perform minor repairs and fix flats  and do inspection stickers and tune-ups and jobs of that nature. Again, [redacted] never called me first to inform me on cost. [redacted] misled me and treated me poorly to add insult to injury. My solution at this time is for him to give me the difference in the amount I paid on a remanufactured part at $750 versus a new part at $346 which would be $404 and the amount he received in sending my part, the core, where he received an added money credit in the neighborhood of around $100, bringing the total to $504. This money would be used in bringing my jeep to the jeep dealership, which, in retrospect, I should've done in the first place. The jeep continues to be a hazard and may cause an accident while on the highway and, god forbid, if I get into an accident, this complaint will reflect this was documented...[redacted], needs to be more honest and realize what he can and cannot do when it comes to repairs...
Regards,
[redacted]

As a business owner of over 20 years and an automotive technician since I was approximately 18 years old, you can imagine [redacted]'s letter is very upsetting to me.First of all, his vehicle was towed into my shop from another shop. This shop had put a fuel pump in his car which did not fix his...

problem. His car was still not running. This other shop did not even put the dashboard completely back together as we found parts of the dashboard on the floor and front seat of his vehicle. He must've paid this other shop a lot of money to replace the fuel pump which did not fix his problem. I wonder if he contacted the Revdex.com about them. After diagnosing the car for many hours, we determined the problem was much more involved.I had to call in a third-party diagnostic service. I called [redacted] before I contacted the diagnostic service and I gave him approximate prices. It's very hard to determine exact prices as it depends on the length of the time it takes to diagnose the problem. He gave me his permission to contact them,so I did. The final diagnosis was a bad computer. To fix the problem it involves buying a new computer and having it reprogrammed. I called him and gave him the prices as to what it would cost to do this work. I knew it would be a costly repair and there is no way I would ever repair the vehicle without the owners permission. It took a long time to complete the repair because I had to order the computer, install it and then get the third-party diagnostics company back to reprogram the computer. Once all that was done the vehicle was fixed and running again. We road tested the vehicle and the vehicle ran perfectly fine. We called him, he came in, paid the bill and picked up the vehicle. He was happy because we got the vehicle running for him. A couple of days later he returned to the shop with the vehicle because he said it wasn't running properly. I personally test drove it and it felt perfectly fine to me. I went two extra steps in an attempt to make [redacted] happy. I checked the vehicle over again at no charge to him. Then I offered to call the diagnostics company again and ask them if there was anything else they could check to see if anything else could be done. I did call them and spoke to them directly. They told me they had done everything they could do. The computer had been programmed correctly. They said if there had been any computer problem, I would have known that before we gave the car back to him. There are two ways to know this. When we scanned the computer, which we did,  no codes appeared. The second way is to test drive the car, which we did, the car had driven perfectly fine. Two very important things you need to know about this vehicle. It is a 2002 Jeep Wrangler with 172,050 miles on it. When you drive it, it's not going to feel like a new vehicle. After we got done repairing this vehicle, it felt perfectly fine considering the age and the mileage. He was fine when he left the shop that day but a few days later he called and was complaining about how much everything cost. He said he could've gotten the parts much cheaper. I explained to him that labor charges and parts markup are a normal part of not only my business but any business that deals with labor and parts. He was still very angry and told me he would write the Revdex.com and Angie's list, which he did. Honestly, in all my years in business, I have never received such a complaint letter. I have never gotten a bad review on Angie's list or on any other online site. I did everything I could humanly do to please him. He has a perfectly good running vehicle again. I did not do anything dishonest, improper or unjust and I see no reason to refund him any of his cost.Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my side of the story. You can email me if you need any other information. Most sincerely yours, Joseph
