shaft. Number 2 main bearing cap was mismatched/ distorted and when tightened would lock up the crank from turning. I recommended align honing block and caps. Customer agreed (align hone, hot tank, replace cam bearings). Customer asked about assembling engine, and I told him I would need to see all the parts to do so. His wife dropped off the parts. Upon examination of parts (some new, some used), cylinder wear was excessive (.006 to .008"), block should be bored and honed and new pistons with rings installed. He agreed. He asked about assembling the engine, I agreed, and assembled it to a "Basic Complete" and pre-oiled it. He picked it up. He called me several times during his reinstallation of the engine, asking how to do things, like: set timing, initial fire-up and break in, prevent air locks in cooling system, etc.. I explained in detail the importance of initial break-in, and answered all his questions. A couple weeks later he called and said, "All is well, truck runs fine"! He then called about engine noises, said he had "others" listen to it. Customer said he'd drive the truck to me for me to listen to it, but the weather was a problem. That was the last time I heard from him. In summary, I DID NOT REBUILD this engine. I performed specific machining operations, (two) . I assembled his engine with his supplied parts and I supplied pistons, rings and oil pump, and his cylinder heads reconditioned by someone else. I have over 46 years experience doing this type of work. I always have and will continue to stand behind the work I perform. The work was correct to that point, when it left my shop. However, I am not responsible for what others do. He installed, adjusted and broke in the engine, hopefully done correctly. This is where the error could have occurred. If he brings me the engine (not in the truck), I will disassemble and inspect it, determine the cause, and go from there. Regards, [redacted] Machine Works

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:After I returned home with the motor, I did call several times with questions regarding initial break-in as I was trying to avoid any issues and I knew proper break in was critical. I followed his instructions completely. There's no way to tell exactly what happened until the motor is disassembled again.  Two other professionals diagnosed the problem to be deep in the engine and not possible to be my fault. To do this it needs to pulled out of the truck again. Since I am the one removing the motor and will not be compensated for my time, I will take the motor to a local and reputable professional that I know I can trust to inspect it and give an impartial account of whatever he finds to be the problem. I will give the name and number of this person to Mr. Parker.  If he chooses to come up and see the motor after the problems have been found, he would be welcome to do so. I will leave the decision of who or what is at fault to this professional, not to Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] can call me if he wants the contact information. Since he ignored my offer to pay his way to drive up and listen to the motor, and if he is found to be at fault for any issues regarding this motor, I will pursue this matter until I am satisfied with the results which is Mr. [redacted] pays for the work.
Regards,
