Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2015/12/29) */
We were called out to look at an A.O. Smith water heater that was not working. The customer had spoken with the factory support and .determined that a safety switch was not working. When we arrived we found the electronic thermostat 'locked out'...

which means the water heater would do nothing. The technician followed the normal startup procedure but the thermos-tat would not unlock.. The thermostat is able to diagnose the problem when it is not 'locked out'. In an effort to further trouble shoot the technician cut the wires to the safety switch and connected them together to bypass the switch. At this point the thermostat unlocked and indicated that the "bypassed" safety switch had failed. This is beginning to look like the thermostat is the problem. The customer then decided that he would call the factory and order the safety. The technician presented the customer with a bill that was then paid. 1-le offered to come back and install the switch when it arrived at no charge. As you can tell: it took a little more than 5 minutes. Our records show that the technician was on site for about 45 minutes. The customer was told before we came out that there was a charge of $125.00. for the call. We even offered to come back and install the part for no additional charge. We heard nothing more from the customer until we received this Revdex.com .complaint.
Sincerely,

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2015/12/30) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I disagree do to one easy and simple reason, when the technician looked at it he had no idea what that piece was and told me that he never worked on or fixed this piece before so when I called and told them the exact issue with it why send out a tech that never worked on this type of problem before. And by the way the tech was very nice and professional but no he didn't not work on my heater for 45 minutes.

I spoke to Ms [redacted] and told her that we do not bid something like this and that we would charge $95.00/hr for labor plus materials....

That is the way we do this kind of work. I made arrangements with her to removed the softener the next Monday. My plumber remove it and left after which my office received a call reporting a leak. We sent another plumber who was available and nearby to make the repair. Ms [redacted] was not charged for this second plumber. We then took the softener and installed it at her new house. There was no place to run the drain so we left it unplugged. Ms [redacted] says she plugged it in to check the motor, why? The only thing that the motor does is run the timer that regularly causes the unit to backwash and if it was working, as she claims, it would probably have flooded the garage. The only way to run the necessary drain is to run it around the garage exposed on the ceiling and into the laundry room to discharge at the washer drain. I spoke to the man who owns the house and he doesn't want to run exposed pipe in his gagage and there is no other way to do it.
This softener is old technology and so I offered the owner the option of buying a new whole house water filter system and I would wave the charges that he owes for moving the old softener. With this new Filter System the backwash drain water can be used in the flower beds. No exposed piping in the garage. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I've called three times trying to get an answer as to what they want to do. No decision as of my writing this.
