We would like a refund of the wrork that was done thst failed after only 300 miles. We broke down in Limon Co, we were refered to this mechanic shop for their timely and quality repairs. After paying to tow to their shop we had CV axles replaced on both sides of the car. We were told the parts had been installed and that while we had other repairs that also needed done none of them were emergencies and would not effect the CV axles or the ability of the car to continue to Oklahoma. We paid the full amout that was asked, including a large markup on the parts. Less than 400 miles away, just outside Hays KS the right CV axle exploded and we incurred another 235 dollars in tows plus the expense of another axle and mechanic. I would like at least a refund for the CV axle plus our aditional expenses or a refund on the work that was done. When we spoke with the shop they instructed us to return the axle to ***, who were only able to refund 44 dollars of the 95 that we were charged for the axle. We have since tried to reach the shop again and we are not getting any response.

This email is in response to case ID 14602518. On July 8th, two CV axles were replaced on a 2008 Mazda 5 for the customer, Zack ***. Our team went out of their way to ensure the customer had the axles changed in a timely manner, even going out of our way to make a special trip to our *** parts house in another town to retrieve the needed CV axles. *** auto parts recommends that their AutoCare centers charge $129.32 ea. for these parts, however our *** AutoCare charged the customer only $95.69 for the axles, well below most *** AutoCare Centers list price for the same part. In addition, installation labor is billed at $80/hr, the nearest shop (in the next town over) charges $130/hr, so we fail to see how our prices are "large markups."

Included in that price of the *** manufactured parts is a Nationwide Peace of Mind 24 month, 24,000 mile warranty on both of the axles. (See attached documentation).

The customer, Mr. Zack ***, called on only one occasion about the issue with the right CV axle and spoke directly with our business owner about the issue. The failure of the CV axle is a result of manufacturer error, and not the installation completed at Parmer's Automotive. In cases where *** parts fail due to manufacturer error or defect the parts fall under the warranty.

At that time Mr. was informed that the parts and labor would be under warranty at any affiliated *** AutoCare. The business owner recommended that Mr. locate the nearest *** AutoCare and provide proof of purchase for the CV axles by way of his receipt in order to have all labor and parts costs taken care of. The customer was never advised to 'return' the part, but instead instructed on the use of the warranty to cover his costs and to call back if he had any trouble getting the parts warrantied.

Under the Peace of Mind warranty, there should not have been a refund from ***, but rather a replacement part and covered labor. Had Mr. called back perhaps we might've been able to better assist him in utilizing the warranty. However after that one phone call in which Mr. spoke with the owner, we have not received any additional contact from the customer, not by telephone, email or through the contact area of our website.

We understand the frustration that occurs when parts fail, but like most other things, sometimes manufacturing errors happen. Parmer's Automotive is not at fault for parts that malfunction in such a manner, that responsibility falls on the manufacturer and is covered under their Peace of Mind Nationalwide warranty.

In 34 years of business, this is our first Revdex.com complaint. That should stand as testament to the fact that we stand behind our work and try to do right by our customers. However when parts malfunction due to no fault of our own and a customer lives outside of our state/county, all we can do is advise of the warranty available to the customer.
