estimates the amount of coverage at the beginning of the patient’s treatmentWhen Delta Dental received the claim from our office, the amount of coverage turned out to be more than we were advised by Delta at out initial conversation on the telephoneTherefore, the patient will be receiving more money from their insurance than either party expectedOur telephone contact with Delta Dental found that Delta had mishandled processing the claim in coding procedures which resulted in the patient’s benefits being divided into two paymentsThe entire benefit should have been paid in one paymentThis happens somewhat frequently and Delta apologizesWe understand what problems they have in processing orthodontic claimsDelta also stated that the patient is not due any refund until we are paid by DeltaDelta advised us that the claim is in process and that they are trying to expedite given the fact of a misunderstanding of coverage for Delta’s original estimate of benefitsThe patient will receive the balance due once a credit balance is showing in our office when Delta makes their final paymentDelta has offered to provide an apology to the patient and we advised them it’s not necessary as we will communicate all of the aboveThis whole situation happens quite frequently with all insurance companies, not just DeltaOrthodontic benefits are not as simple for insurance companies to processDelta is not to be blamed, we just need communications to be completedAll parties involved have to be patient to get things such as this sorted out, as it takes enormous amounts of staff time Sincerely, *** BParsons Jr., D.D.S
