Contarcted with Pates design to Paint and replace wood on building. During scope of work they damaged my property due to neglect and unskilled labor.
Contracted Pate's design on 8/14/2019 to remove neon lights, replace wood rot and to paint roof and facia boards. During the course of the repairs, regular plywood was used versus a flame rdant material as required when installing neon glass due to the high voltage involved.
Once the painting process was completed, Pate's design reinstalled the neon tubing on the building breaking several pieces due to inexperience in handling neon. This was a concern of mine prior to engaging into a contractual relationship with this company but I was assured by Pate's that they had had plenty of experience working with neon.
Pate's design assured us that they had a company that did all of there neon work and would have all of the broken neon lights replaced.
During the course of a few weeks or so the building caught on fire due to the improper installation of neon tubing on the newly replaced ply wood that Pate had installed. The business was closed for several hours as the fire department extinguished the fire. We had to make emergency repairs to get the business back open. We contracted a neon company to make all necessary repairs to get all of our glass replaced as well as transformers that were damaged.
We sent *** an email on October 14, 2019. The reason for the email was to follow up on a verbal conversation I had with him in his office a couple weeks prior to that date. The email outlined the direct damages that we incurred due to his lack of knowledge in handling neon tubing. At the time of the email the total invoice was $4236.89 in damages. We have received the electrical bill which was $510.00 increasing the total damages to $4746.89.
There was no response to the email after a period of 7 days. I decided to go to his new office located at *** in ***, Alabama to meet with him again face to face. I took our VP of operations with me to the meeting. When we first arrived he informed us that it the complaint had been sent to the Insurance company. He then took us to his foremans office to follow up with him. We were once again told that the matter had been filed with the insurance company. I asked him at that point just to give me the name and contact information for the insurance company and we would follow up. At that time Mr. became belligerent and stated that he was not going to file this with his liability company. He had been lying to us the entire visit until he realized that we were not going away with out a resolution to this issue. He then stated that he had just filed bankruptcy in *** Alabama for Pates Painting and remodeling and that he would just list this debt on that petition. I was a bit confused about his filing on a company that I had no knowledge of. We contracted and wrote a check to Pates design.
To date, this has not been resolved. We have had no further communication with this company as I have been out of town for the past three weeks.

Desired Outcome

We would like to be reimbursed for the $4746.89 we have invested to return our property back to working order.

Pate's Painting & Remodeling Response • Dec 12, 2019

Our contract with the customer was for painting and repairing fascia. Upon completion of the work, Pate's was notified that there were broken lights, and without question, we offered to fix them. The customer decided that they would fix them and send us a bill because we could not get the neon lights replaced in the 3 day time frame they had. We agreed to their decision. Since said job, we have not received a call or invoice. Pate's was fully prepared to fix and pay what we needed to for our customers to make them happy

Customer Response • Dec 12, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There statement is untrue. We physically went to there facility to rectify this problem and they stated that they would just add our claim in bankruptcy court to a company they were currently filing on. We have all of the documentation to support our position. if they had intentions of paying for the damages they would have done so by now.
We currently have litigation on standby pending the out come of this matter with the Revdex.com. We have no intentions of causing a company undue hardship by entering into lawsuits. If there statement is correct then I would expect them to forward a check to me for the amount outlined in the original complaint.

After paying ***'s the final draw on a contract to repair tornado damage, they still owe over $6,000 worth of work.
We signed a contract in May 2018 with ***'s to repair extensive damage on my mother's home after the tornado in *** AL in March 2018. ***'s wrote up an estimate and we received funds from insurance to cover most of the cost. (My mother died on May 29, 2018, and I am one of the co-executors.) There were 2 changes in project manager on our contract from June to November 2018. We were given a draw schedule by which we had to pay ***'s. After they got the final draw (over $6,000) in September 2018, ***'s work came to a standstill. We met face to face at the home with the owner, *** on November 9, 2018 and he assured us work would be start back up and we would be refunded anything not completed. Since then, only 1 or 2 small items have been completed. I sent ***'s a detailed list of work still to be completed and asked for either the work to be done or to return our funds so we could have it done by someone else. They are not responding to emails or taking calls. I went by in person on February 18, 2019 and talked to the office manager, who said it wasn't her responsibility. We believe ***'s has no intention of finishing the work and plan on keeping the money we need to repair my mother's house. We have been told the ***'s business was possibly re-organized under ***'s son, Dustin ***, although we can't find any evidence of them having filed bankruptcy. It was our mistake to pay them in advance, but that is where we are and we can't change that. If I were Revdex.com I would not want them to have the Revdex.com logo on their website, and I certainly have no idea how they have an A+ rating.

Desired Outcome

We no longer trust ***'s to finish the work we paid them for and do not want them on the property. We want a refund of the money we paid them up front so we can finish the repairs using reputable contractors.

Pate's remodeled two bathrooms in 2016 and our kitchen and half bath in 2017. Overall, the work looks good which is due entirely to the gentleman that was in charge of the actual remodeling. Everyone calls him "Strick" and he is fantastic. We wish he had his own business so we could call him directly for any work we want done. But, after saying this, let me explain my two star rating. We noticed a few problems with the kitchen remodel. We identified these problems to Pate's within a couple of months after the job was completed. After repeatedly contacting them for months over these issues, they finally fixed all of them except for one. This took almost a year from the completion date of the remodel. Unfortunately, the problem that was extremely important to us was never corrected due to the length of time Pate's and the subcontractor took to schedule what needed to be done. Fixing the problem after a year had passed could have possibly created a new issue so we decided to let it go. Not happy about this, but we felt it was the less risky choice after a year had passed.

What finally turned us off on this company was the failure of Mr. P to show up for another appointment that we made with him for August 2018. We waited several days before calling his attention to the fact that he missed the appointment. He did not respond to us with an apology or a request to reschedule the appointment. The very least we thought we deserved was an apology. We spent a lot of money with his company. We have still heard nothing from him. We were shocked over this poor business practice, and with Mr. P because quite frankly, he seemed like a very nice man, and we thought he demonstrated a desire to take care of his customers. Apparently, we were wrong.

Due to the way things ended up for us, we cannot recommend this company. They give you a three year guarantee on their work, but the bottom line is after we paid them, it was very difficult to get them to return to to fix our problems which was part of their warranty.

This job they did for me was a nightmare. First I was quoted a quote of $705.60. When I signed the contract Jeremy said it would be $597.60. I thought it went down because I was going to let them do my kitchen. After they started I was informed that it was worse then he thought and Jeremy said it would be approximately $2000 but not over $2500.Went to pay the down payment and it had went up to $3412.94.They knocked things off my wall and put little holes in it and they had to be called back about four times. I paid them but I will never use them again nor refer them to anyone. The job wasn't the best and I had to call for them to clean up the side of my house. On top of that Sabrina was suppose to have my warranty paperwork when I paid the balance but she didn't. I guess she didn't like the negative review I signed for her, She said it would take a week, the week is over and I'm still waiting. This small job took a month to be completed which should have taken app.2 to 3 days if they had stayed on it and done it right the first time! I never knew when they were finished because they never told me, they just didn't show up. This is very bad business.
