5-22-14 [redacted] said he had called [redacted] and left a message on his cell 6-11-14 I sent a letter to [redacted] and a copy of the invoice he still owed. This is a copy of that letter:
"I was just speaking to our trapper, [redacted], about the trapping work you contracted us to do in February 2014. I also see that the bill has not been paid. I realize that you wanted us to trap for a skunk that was in your yard. In working with this premise we did end up trapping 2 groundhogs (I should amend this to opossums) and removed them from your property. You have not been charged for the removal of these 2 animals which would normally cost $75 each. The service you owe for was to set up the trapping job. Whether or not we caught the animal in question you are charged a set up fee that includes the capture of the first animal. I believe we acted in good faith completing our end of the work requested. We cannot guarantee that an animal will be caught. Animals move about through nature and the skunk or skunks in question could have moved away from the area where you were having the difficulty. I feel that you still owe us this set up fee and we have been more than patient waiting for 4 months for payment. We will gladly continue to still try to catch the skunk and leave the trap at your home, but because of circumstances since then we have removed the trap. If you would like to have us come back and reset the trap to catch the skunk we will gladly do so and continue to check the trap until we can catch the skunk. We are a reputable company with deep roots in Chagrin Falls and have been in business for 50 years. I believe in completing work properly and reliably and honestly.
In short, you were charged $200 plus tax for trapping to be set up at your home. We did that for you. Please pay this bill as soon as possible. If not I will have to turn it over to our collection agency. I do not like to do that and I like to have customers who are pleased with our service. However, I do believe that if someone contracts us for service and we go to their home to do as we were asked to do, the customer is responsible for payment.
Sincerely, [redacted] On 7-8-14 I sent this bill to collections. This account is a true example of why we require prepayment of trapping. In this incidence we got a credit card, but were told not to use it and trusted the customer would remit payment. I waited 5 months to send anything to collections which I believe is more than enough consideration on our part. I would like to reiterate that the customer was made aware that the $200 fee was to set up the trapping job for the skunk. We did that. What customers do not take into consideration is that there is a lot of time involved in trapping. First of all when the trap is set we are required to check that trap each day. On Fridays we close the traps in case an animal would be caught over a weekend and have to be in a trap for more than 24 hours. Trapping is not a finite art. You are dealing with nature and nature is not always dependable.
We were contracted to set up a trapping job. We set up the trapping job. We sent bills for that trapping job and did not receive this complaint until the person contracting the job was sent to collections. I feel that we have done nothing wrong in this situation and that the complaint should be ours because of nonpayment. I am sure this is what he wanted in the first place. I have also spoken to my daughter, [redacted] about the two opossums that we caught. Our trapper, [redacted], told her that what he figured out that what was happening was that the opossums had set up house under the porch and a skunk had decided to try to move in and left his odor spraying the porch and probably the two opossums. Once the opossums were removed, the problem was taken care of even though there may still be skunks in the yard. They are a part of nature. We offered to return and reset the trap.
To make a long story short, the original call was to take care of skunk(s) under the porch, we set the trap as requested. By removing the opossums the problem was addressed. We feel that we solved the problem, but as a courtesy we will credit the account for the $216.00 he owes.
Sincerely, [redacted]
