Paul the Painter Reviews (6)

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint? For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.? I paid Paul [redacted] $to remove wallpaper, skim coat, sand, and properly prep the walls prior to painting our small dining room and an upper/lower foyer hallway? The dining room was only half-wallpapered while the hallway was all wallpaperedAs any reputable painter will tell you, prepping is 90% of painting! ? Paul the Painter told me he had years experience and his business card stated that he specialized in painting and wallpaper removal? In the dining room and lower hallway area the work he did is average although there are small areas that have cracking and peeling paint? He also doubled his price due to the wallpaper taking longer than he estimatedHe charged us $just for paint which appeared to be leftover from his other jobs? Also, he did only one coat in most areas as you can see spots totally missed? He talked me into using a flat cream color wall paint (feels more like a ceiling paint) since it would "hide more of the wall imperfections." ? The paint on the doors and trim has an uneven finish like a flat paint was mixed with eggshell? We wanted a medium tan eggshell finish paint on the walls and a glossier finish white on the doors/trim since the hallway is a high-traffic areaThe upper hallway walls he did very little prep work and this area absolutely needed skim coating? This entire area looks horrible with large dents, bumps, and divots everywhere? The paint is cracking and peeling in large sections since he did no prep work on the walls prior to painting them with just one coat? The paint has literally cracked and pieces are on the floor? He rushed and did the upstairs hall in hours when we weren't home? He got the wall paint on the wood door trim of all doorsAlso downstairs, he got paint on every door knob of doors, every door hinge, the floor, the vinyl window trims, the ceiling light and fanHe told me to call his insurance company since I wasn't happy? His insurance told me sorry but they don't cover poor workmanship, unless he got paint on things that weren't to be painted, which he didTherefore, his insurance company paid us $1,just for the paint he got on things that weren't to be painted! The insurance adjuster who came out to our house sent us a letter stating the following: "The painter due to his apparent poor workmanship got paint on window trims, ceiling light trim, door hardware, ? and door trim? He also used the basement laundry tub and left specks of paint in it." ? "To reverse what the insured has done will require either the cleaning or replacement of the door knobs and hinges, the cleaning of the window trims, and light trims." ? "I would think a painter could use mineral spirits or a similar product to remove the paint without damaging these items? It should take no more than days at the most with a per labor cost of $for cleaning of the paint? We are looking at $plus $tax added, and $for the laundry tub for a total of $1,159.92."? This $1,is just to remove paint damages to our home! ? And they are extensive enough to take someone TWO DAYS to remove all of the paint damage!? We still need to have the walls and trim totally redone...the walls need to be sanded, skim coated, and repainted with an average estimate of $to redo everything that he was supposed to paint? Plus $1,in damages? I do not ? recommend Paul the Painter? If you don't plan to do something right, then you shouldn't do it at all! ? He has costed us more time and money now that everything must be redone the correct way? FACT: ? painting is 90% prep work! ? So if you can't do prep work, then you have no business painting! ? A reputable painter would not have left our walls with cracked and peeling paint! Regards, [redacted]

I was contracted by *** to remove the wallpaper in her foyer, upper staircase, hallway and dining room? I was not contracted to skim coat anywhere because of dust and her bad allergies? *** failed to do the job herself and that's why I was called, to finish what she started? I
was recommended to her because I have done great work for someone she knew? After seven days working there, I was told all along my job looked great and really made a difference? I was shocked ? ten days after I was done to get a very nasty email from her about the job? I passed on my insurance company name and phone number? She was equally very nasty to them and as a result, provided a settlement with her? Lastly, the reason the price increased because she saw how hard the paper came off the walls and recommended I up my price to make up for it? All tools I need for a job I have and provide myself? I don't dare tarnish my reputation stealing from people and she knows that because she left me in her house several times alone.?

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.  I paid Paul [redacted] $2400 to remove wallpaper, skim coat, sand, and properly prep the walls prior to painting our small dining room and an upper/lower foyer hallway.  The dining room was only half-wallpapered while the hallway was all wallpapered. As any reputable painter will tell you, prepping is 90% of painting!  Paul the Painter told me he had 20 years experience and his business card stated that he specialized in painting and wallpaper removal.  In the dining room and lower hallway area the work he did is average although there are small areas that have cracking and peeling paint.  He also doubled his price due to the wallpaper taking longer than he estimated. He charged us $500 just for paint which appeared to be leftover from his other jobs.  Also, he did only one coat in most areas as you can see spots totally missed.  He talked me into using a flat cream color wall paint (feels more like a ceiling paint) since it would "hide more of the wall imperfections."  The paint on the doors and trim has an uneven finish like a flat paint was mixed with eggshell.  We wanted a medium tan eggshell finish paint on the walls and a glossier finish white on the doors/trim since the hallway is a high-traffic area. The upper hallway walls he did very little prep work and this area absolutely needed skim coating.  This entire area looks horrible with large dents, bumps, and divots everywhere.  The paint is cracking and peeling in large sections since he did no prep work on the walls prior to painting them with just one coat.  The paint has literally cracked and pieces are on the floor.  He rushed and did the upstairs hall in 3 hours when we weren't home.  He got the wall paint on the wood door trim of all 5 doors. Also downstairs, he got paint on every door knob of 4 doors, every door hinge, the floor, the 3 vinyl window trims, the ceiling light and fan. He told me to call his insurance company since I wasn't happy.  His insurance told me sorry but they don't cover poor workmanship, unless he got paint on things that weren't to be painted, which he did. Therefore, his insurance company paid us $1,159.92 just for the paint he got on things that weren't to be painted! The insurance adjuster who came out to our house sent us a letter stating the following: "The painter due to his apparent poor workmanship got paint on window trims, ceiling light trim, door hardware,  and door trim.  He also used the basement laundry tub and left specks of paint in it."  "To reverse what the insured has done will require either the cleaning or replacement of the door knobs and hinges, the cleaning of the window trims, and light trims."  "I would think a painter could use mineral spirits or a similar product to remove the paint without damaging these items.  It should take no more than 2 days at the most with a per labor cost of $400 for cleaning of the paint.  We are looking at $800 plus $70 tax added, and $289.92 for the laundry tub for a total of $1,159.92."  This $1,159.92 is just to remove paint damages to our home!  And they are extensive enough to take someone TWO DAYS to remove all of the paint damage!  We still need to have the walls and trim totally redone...the walls need to be sanded, skim coated, and repainted with an average estimate of $2500 to redo everything that he was supposed to paint.  Plus $1,159.92 in damages.  I do not  recommend Paul the Painter.  If you don't plan to do something right, then you shouldn't do it at all!  He has costed us more time and money now that everything must be redone the correct way.  FACT:  painting is 90% prep work!  So if you can't do prep work, then you have no business painting!  A reputable painter would not have left our walls with cracked and peeling paint!
