Payless Car Sales of Modesto

Review: The advertised Assurance Guarantee is applied at the discretion of the Sales Mgr, not necessarily if there is a legitimate service issue which is what we were led to believe. We purchased our car 11-2-13 knowing there was a potential problem with some kind of leak underneath. We trusted what our salesperson told us which was we have a 60 day Assurance Guarantee covering any problems that may surface with the car. I have confirmed with our salesman, [redacted], that he remembers us finding and telling him we saw the leak and would want to find out what it is. He assured us the service dept they use, Central Valley VW/Hyundai would take care of us and we are purchasing with the 60 day Assurance Guarantee. We took the car in for this issue and to have a headlight and seatbelt fixed. Service dept contacted us to tell us the leak was damage to the transmission and it happened after we bought the car. I tried to tell them no, it was there when we bought it and was told they'd never sell a car in this condition and that we must have had an accident or incident after purchase. After numerous calls back and forth between us and service, and us and Payless with the sales director, [redacted], he said he would authorize the repair at cost which was between $755-$1075 depending on if we replaced the protective cover or not. There was no incident after purchase. We were not expecting a used vehicle in perfect condition and definitely did not expect to purchase one needing expensive repairs from what we thought was a reputable dealer. They did repair the headlight and seat belt but adamantly refused the transmission repair. We were shocked that they insisted the problem was after sale and was recent damage although they weren't able to tell me how they can tell it's recent. It was very insulting to have been treated this way and shocking that they so blatantly refused to acknowledge we told them we saw it prior to purchase. No regard to their customer after sale at all. They got their $$ from us already.Desired Settlement: We would like Payless Car Sales to honor their Assurance Guarantee and do the right thing by repairing the transmission. We purchased from them in good faith and expect the same in return.

As of today, Payless Car Sales has repaired the vehicle to the customer's satisfaction and there are no issues at this time.
