It was explained that we use product that contains phosphorus acid. The chemical removes the seal that...
protects the grout and that was
most likely that the seal was dirty. After exposing the grout, the grout would need to be resealed to protect it from its porous "sponge like" properties.
After talking to the customer it was clear the procedure would take up to 4 hrs. He was quoted $250 minimum which covered equipment, chemical and labor.
After explaining the procedure the customer agreed to pay our fee. Once the job was under way I left my helpers to start the job while I picked up more chemicals to complete the job.We applied the acid as directed and agitated with a grout brush. Every grout line was manually scrubbed with a grout brush as well as with a floor machine.
We come in a crew of 2 minimum because scrubbing grout is labor intensive. After well into the job it was clear the grout was not going to come out as the customer expected.
It was explained that grout has porous properties and that if the the grout was not previously sealed correctly during installation the grout could trap in dirt during regular moping and spills.
If this was the case the grout must be removed and possibly replaced/re-grouted. I never once instructed customer that we provide this service. We provided customer the service as explained to completion.
