Technician came out for what should've been a diagnostic visit. Did not communicate, AC still broken, charged $600 for nothing.
May 28th or 29th 2020, a service technician came out to diagnose our broken AC unit. He was told there were oddities with the wiring which may make it more difficult to fix. He did not explain the time it may take to tinker with the unit, nor the cost of said time. I was not given a quote to sign off on and did not approve any specific amount of work.

After three hours and being unable to fix the unit, I was shocked as I was given a bill for $586.06. I was told we could use this money towards a new one. However, after getting a second opinion, I did not feel comfortable purchasing a unit from this company. I kindly explained the situation to the owner, offering to pay for his employee's time and requesting a refund for the difference.

During our communication, the owner refused to offer any solution. He stated his employee has been directed to walk away from similar wiring issues in the future, meaning he clearly knows those three hours shouldn't have been spent.

The owner specifically said "I know your boyfriend owns the building so you don't have much overhead.", insinuating I can afford to be over-charged. He also used having to pay for said employee's schooling as an extra excuse for the pricing.

Desired Outcome

As the initial diagnostic visit should have been $89, I am requesting a refund of $497.

To Whom It May Concern,

The information provided by *** is inaccurate.
First, I never stated that our prices were based on any kind of training for our employees.
Second, Kyle did as he should have done and went through the process of trying to diagnose a very hazardous issue. Two units are running off the same wiring which is a violation of all and any building codes.
Kyle went to *** and let her know that this was going to be time consuming. He adjusted the systems and rewired them to get them to operate.
He let *** know that this was a temporary fix.
We sent over a proposal for replacement. They chose to go another company.

There is a dispatch fee and diagnostic fee, as well as labor in this invoice because we were there several hours troubleshooting and trying to get the unit functional. The determination was that the units had been put in by someone that did not do them correctly which in turn caused issues with the systems. Additionally, *** had already had another HVAC company come out and they walked away from the job because of all the issues and said the unit was undersized.

Please see Kyle's notes below:

Customer has two 5 ton heat pump package units that are conjoined together somehow and supposed to run off of the same thermostat which is incorrect and against safety code. There should be two totally separate systems running on individual thermostats and ductwork. One system is a 410A unit and the other system is an R22 system. The R22 unit was rigged off to where it would come on but the compressor was overheating and shutting itself off. I fixed the issue but the unit is just trashed.
Customer is aware of the issue and wants a quote for a new 5 ton heat pump package unit on the side of the building. It may be a little bit difficult to get the heat pump package unit to the side of the building. Also, on the install we will have to run new thermostat wire in a new thermostat to separate the units totally from each other.

*** has reached out over this issue several times.
This past conversation I told her I reviewed the service call and notes with Kyle. I informed her that he spent time to correct the issue as well as possible and that he had two options to walk away or try to fix the system. The Dispatch Fee is 89.99 plus tax. This is to bring the tech to the door of the client. From there the call goes into time and consumable materials and labor. This is very well explained by our dispatcher Farrah during the initial call from the client.
Kyle is well trained, educated, licensed and is very capable to correct issues.
*** was very rude when I told her my decision and even questioned my personal integrity. That is where I ended the conversation.
We are a reliable, affordable and are an upstanding business.
Because of ***'s demeanor and negative comments about me personally and the companies policies I told her we could direct this to our lawyer.

Obviously, we are disappointed that *** is not satisfied however we know that our business practices are very normal and competitive in our market place.

Please see the signed invoice from *** in the attachments.

Best-

Brian and his team we're very professional and detailed. I couldn't have asked for a better job on a two unit install. We definitely recommend them to anyone in need of hvac work.

Brian and his team are awesome
They take their time to do the job correctly. They go over any questions, or concerns. They are the absolute best to deal with when you need an honest trustworthy company to call about your ac.
