June 7, 2016Dear *** ***I am responding to your letter dated May 23rd, Attached with your letter was the complaint registered at your office by *** *** ***.I read her complaint and tried my best to find the merit of the complaintThe complaint is made by *** *** who was not present at the time when I was consulted by Hospital about their childAll the harassments, verbal abuse to staff at my practice is done by her husband.Facts around the complaints are following;I was asked by *** Hospital Pediatric Hospitalist to do inpatient consult on patient A.PHe was in hospital for couple of days already for gastrointestinal illnessAt the time of consult his father was with patientI tried to take patient history from his fatherHis father was upset about the care he was receiving at the hospital, that his wife has to take days off from work etcand apparently child condition is not improving as per his father expectationsAt the time of visit *** *** was more than rudeI do not know why but he was hostile to meHe used not so appropriate words and remained argumentative during the course of visitTo give you example, he refused to give me any information and history about patient’s condition saying that I should have all the information before I walked in the roomI tried to explain to him that I know what is written in patient’s chart but I want to get firsthand information from patient’s fatherHis answer to my explanation was that why are you wasting my time if you know the history alreadyYou can imagine how difficult the situation wasI tried to make the best of the situation, gathered the information from him the best I could, from patient’s chart, hospital staff, examined the patient, reviewed his labs, suggested plan of care, explained the plan of care to his father, discussed and explain the plan of care with on call nurse practitionerNext day when I called hospital to follow up on patient’s condition I was told by hospital staff that patient father does not want me to be involve in his child’s care.7.The reason why *** were billed late is that we hired a billing agency for our practiceThey ran audit of our practice and found out many claims, including AP, which were not billed.8.Our billing company sent them the bill and when they did not respond then the matter bill was sent for collection9.Our office is open during regular business hours and after business hour calls are forwarded to answering serviceIt is simply not correct that we were closed or hung up or left messagesIn fact, *** *** did call our office many times, used abusive language with my staff, harass themHe was told that since this is billing question so he should contact the billing companyHe was provided the number of billing company and advised to call them.10.The billing company offered 10% discount to *** ***, which he took and payment was made.11.As for “Desired Outcome/ Settlement”, since the payment is made, the matter is not reported to credit bureau.If you have any other questions or more information please do not hesitate to contact our office.Sincerely,MAzim Q***, MD
