Penn Hills Monuments Reviews (8)

Review: My mother, [redacted] (age 84) placed an order for her headstone from this company at the end of 2012 (with my assistance). The actual full payment was due prior to them placing the order. The total charge was $2,613. Which we paid in January 2013. This is now a year later and still have not received even a return phone call. I (her daughter, [redacted]) have made many, many phone calls trying to resolve this issue. I have even made attempts to go to their office during work hours, and no one is ever there. I really do not know how to resolve this issue. My mother does not have money to just place another order somewhere. This was alot of money. She wanted to see it before she passes.Desired Settlement: return the money that was given to them for a product that they never delivered.

Review: We were given the name of Penn Hills Monuments by the funeral home that arranged for my mother's ([redacted]) burial. We contacted [redacted] of PHM & order a headstone that matched my father's & grandmother's. We paid in full $1920 by check on Nov 19, 2013. We expected the headstone to be placed on the gravesite in the spring. A few weeks ago, we were contacted by a detective with the Allegheny Co DA office. They are investigating PHM for taking payment & not coming thru with product. They have received over 60 complaints re: PHM getting paid & not providing their product (headstone). The detective suggested we contact the Revdex.com & file a complaint & find another monument company to provide my mother with her headstone. I tried to contact Mr [redacted] @ PHM & the phone has been disconnected. My brothers & myself no longer live in the Pittsburgh area so we couldn't visit PHM & try to get this issue resolved face to face.Desired Settlement: We would like to be reimbursed in full ($1920) for the headstone ordered.

Review: My mother ordered a headstone from said business in mid August 2013 with a promise of delivery within 8 to 12 weeks. To date, nothing has been done and owner is not responding to emails and/or telephone calls for status. I live out of state and unable to physically visit the company and my mother, age 84, does not drive so also unable to visit the business. Last update was in mid November when owner stated he was meeting with the engraver but no update since that time. We paid the company in full and my mother does not have the money to purchase a headstone from another company.Desired Settlement: Request headstone be created and installed as promised. If company can not provide product as promised, full refund requested immediately so new headstone can be ordered from another company.

Review: Headstone was paid for in full on 2/28/2013,prior to that in November a substantial deposit was placed. The company will not provide delivery date, and will not callback with status. Work for cemetery was paid for in November and work has yet to be completed. Company will not call back with status update. All updates have been "I will call and find out and call you back" or I will check and call you back. Company has never called with an update. All persons that answer the phone are evasive and state "It hasn't come in yet" and "we don't know when it will be in" "It's coming from Canada and they only ship when they have 2000 or more pounds" or "It may be at the trucking company"All answers to date have been evasive. No concrete answers as to when the headstone will arrive or if the order has even been placed.Desired Settlement: In order to feel as though this is not a scam, I need a firm delivery date and order status. I want the product that was paid for in full in a timely manner or a refund of all monies paid thus far if order cannot be proven that it was placed with the manufacturer.

Review: This complaint is on behalf of my father-in-law and mother-in-law, [redacted] and [redacted], both age 90. On May 2, 2013 my husband and I took his parents to Penn Hills Monuments and spoke to [redacted] regarding purchasing a marker for their cemetery plot in[redacted]. The marker was selected and was paid in full at that time, obviously a big mistake. We were told that it would take from ten to twelve weeks and should be ready by the end of July at which time we would be called. A telephone call to check on the order was not returned so we went to the business at the end of August to check and were told it wasn't made yet because they were waiting to get other orders to make all at the same time. End of September telephone calls were not returned either so we went again and were told they were waiting for it to be shipped. On October 28 we went again and the order could not be located to give us information on the status, said the file was given to their Accountant along with others (no info was kept at their location) but he ([redacted]) would see the accountant that evening and call us. This is now Oct. 30 and we still have not received a call. Please help, this is an extremely important issue for my 90 year old mother-in-law.Desired Settlement: Would like delivered and installed at [redacted] immediately or else a total refund.

Review: I signed a contract on May 31, 2013 to purchase a headstone for my mother's grave. The amount was for a total of $1,055.40 (of which a total of $230.40 would be paid by Penn Hills Monuments to [redacted] Cemetary In Pittsburgh). Owners name is [redacted]. My wife and I were told that it would take 12 weeks total to have the stone ordered and installed at her gravesite. At that time we paid $520.00 to Penn Hills Monuments LLC. [redacted] cashed this check the same day.[redacted] told us on 5/31 that the balance of $535.40 could be paid by us when the stone arrived at his business location. The only event that happened after 5/31 to 8/22/13 was that [redacted] cashed our check. We called him on 8/22 for the status of our order. We were shocked that he told us he did not order the stone yet. We were told he could not order it until we paid the contract in full. This was not true to the agreement we made at the end of May. Needless to say, it was only when we called Penn Hills Monuments on 8/22 we even knew about this.I wanted that stone installed on or before 9/15/13, which is my mother's birthday. So now we wrote another check for the balance of $535.40 made out to Penn Hills Monuments. We called many times after that, and in October Penn Hills Monuments would not return our phone inquiries. The last time they talked to us they said they had ordered the headstone on the supplier in Georgia. Well, today it's January 15, 2014. And there is no stone on my mother's grave. I sent [redacted] 2 emails in November - he never answered them. They would not answer the phone calls we made. A local news channel aired a report about Penn Hills Monuments in either September or October of 2013, with the case of a woman who had gotten the same lies and horrible treatment. I was not aware of this until the past few weeks.[redacted] is under an ongoing investigation as of the date of this complaint.Desired Settlement: [redacted] owes me a money order or cashiers check in the amount of $825.00.He did pay [redacted] Cemetery for the footer that was laid sometime in September. This situation is despicable and I would advise anyone who may have to bury a loved one to stay a million miles away from [redacted] and Penn Hill Monuments LLC.

Review: On Sept. 27, 2012. I gave a down payment of $1,800.00, a little over half the total cost of the tomb stone. it is Sept. 11,2013 and I still do not have the marker. The business owner does not co-operate when I call to check on the status. I paid for the marker in full on January 9, 2013. It has now been 9 months that the product has been paid in full and I still do not have the marker. Today was the last straw. The employee was getting aggressive with ME. and I am the one who has paid a total of $3898.98 for a product that I have not received yet. I would like to make sure that no one else is taken advantage of like I have been. I am so upset. On Sept. 22 it will be one year since my husband has passed away and I still do not have the marker at the cemetery. It makes me so sad and I have spent the whole day crying. It is a poor reflection on me that the marker is not in place yet. My husband is buried right outside the church doors at our church's cemetery...... nice......and yes, NO MARKER YET. Please let people know they should not purchase their marker at Penn Hills Monuments, it will just bring them additional heartache.Desired Settlement: a Refund or PLEASE JUST THE MARKER, SO THAT I MAY PLACE IT IN THE CEMETERY.

Response:

Review: I contacted Penn Hills Monuments in January 2013 to purchase a monument for my daughter's grave site. My daughter's name is [redacted]. The monument and installation of the stone was paid in full in January of 2013 by my son [redacted]. At that time I was told that it may be as late as spring before the stone could be installed in the cemetery due to frozen ground. When the monument was not delivered and installed by early summer, I was told that there was too much rain. I have contacted the owner, [redacted], a number to times and have been given no satisfactory excuse for the delay. His excuses are not believable. In late summer his excuse was that we had not sent back the confirmation of spelling form. In fact, that form was not given to me to sign until late summer and upon receipt I sent it to him by return mail. Now here we are in Fall of the year and no word about when or if the monument will be installed. The excuses by Mr. [redacted] simply defy reason. Under no circumstances should it take this long for a grave stone to be delivered and installed. I am left with little knowledge of how to proceed.Desired Settlement: I want a signed promise from Mr. [redacted] that the memorial will be installed to my satisfaction by the end of the year. If he is unwilling to to provide what we have paid for, I would like a full refund before the end of the year so that I am able to contact another company to provide a memorial stone.
