Penn Ohio Roofing & Siding Group Reviews (%countItem)

Had a porch roof built onto my house around April of this year. The shingles aren't straight when looking from the side, wavy. However, the biggest issue is the corner of the porch roof is not straight. First time trying to have issue fixed, I was told by one of the owners it was just a crown in the wood. ( there's zero crown). After a couple months of continuing to complain, I FINALLY got the guy who built it to look at it. Was told now that the house itself is crooked, not the added on porch roof. However, when you measure it, it shows different. Even sitting back and looking you can clearly see it's NOT the entire house that's crooked. Only get more and more excuses. Paid over $7,000 for this small addition and it's not even correct and holding up the process of enclosing part of the porch. It's now October and still messed up. Have had another contractor look for a second opinion, and told exactly the same thing, the porch roof is angled in.

Thank you for contacting us, please contact the owner at *** and we would love to make the situation right. Dustin and joe will personally come out together to correct any issues you may have, we apologize for any issues, we were not aware of this. Thank you and please contact us to resolve the issue

Note: There seem to be 3 addresses for this company.
The address listed on the contract that I have does not coincide with the phone number.

June 30, 2018, my husband and I had all seams of all gutters on entire house cleaned and sealed and all the flashing on the entire house sealed, with a One Year Labor Guarantee in writing. The gutters started leaking about three weeks after the repair and the flashing has gaps along the brick, in addition to being done in clear caulking instead of black. I repeatedly called the cell phone of Alvin F, the representative who had done the repair, many times July through October of 2018. I did not note all the times that I had called, but I have records of calling: August 29th, 2018, October 1, 2018, October 31, 2018, He kept on giving excuses, telling me that he would schedule me. I estimate that had I called about 10 times

*March 27, 2019, I called the office number ***. I spoke with a Roseanne, who indicated that they would get back to me.
*March 29, 2019, I spoke with a Don G. He indicated that he would reach out to Alvin F and to Dustin G. I heard nothing.
*I called again on April 9, 2019, Don G returned the call. He said that he would look into it; but that they were so busy but that I would hear from him on Friday, April 12.
*April 10, 2019, Don G called at 10:27 AM and seemed to forget our conversation from April 9, 2018. Again, "they were so busy", but I should hear from them hopefully by 3 PM. He said that if I didn't hear from him that I should get someone else to do the job.
I told him that I have the one-year labor guarantee from Penn-Ohio and that the company needs to seal the gutters on my house--UNLESS he will pay another company of my choosing to have the gutters sealed.

*April 10, 2019, 11:20AM Dustin G called. Again, they are “so busy”. Wanted to know what Alvin told me. He wanted to get on a 3-way call with Alvin "to get to the bottom of everything". I said that that would not accomplish a thing.
He also mentioned going to court, saying that it was "not worth my while". He then moved to offering negotiation dollar figures saying that he would not reimburse for materials.
I asked him to refund me in full in cash in person (knowing full well that that would not happen). I asked him to reseal the gutters himself-he would not. He indicated that he would have Alvin F repair them while he was overseeing..
The end result of this phone conversation is that the gutters would be resealed within a week from April 10, 2019.
April 24, 2019. Penn-Ohio Roofing did not call me.

---------- Forwarded message ---------From: ***Date: Tue, Apr 30, 2019 at 8:05 PMSubject: IDSubmitted April 30, 2019 via email. Please find below documentation of further contact with Penn Ohio Roofing and Siding: April 25, 2019. A.M. Phone message from Alvin F. Summary of the message: He will refund half the $775 and make repairs. I have the message on my home phone. April 25, 2019. A.M. Phone message from a Joe P indicating that he is a co-owner of Penn-Ohio Roofing. Summary: After seeing the review that I had written on HomeAdvisor he decided to call me. He apologized. Said would refund entire $775 and make the repairs. I have the message on my home phone.Mr. P’s number is an Ohio number: ***. I have not seen his name listed as an owner on any websites, including the PA Dept of State and the Attorney General of PA. I also called each of these State Departments to verify. April 26, 2019 A.M. I returned Joe P’s call. I indicated that I had appreciated the message and informed him that my husband would call him back the week of April 28, 2019. I reaffirmed what he said in the message to refund entire amount and to repair the gutters. I had indicated that we did not want the flashing to be addressed as we think that any further attempt at re-caulking would make the mess that it is worse. He said that he would look at the flashing and see if it could be remedied. I asked if he personally would be out to look at the gutters/repair them…he said yes. I had also mentioned that he, Joe, as a co-owner of the company needed to be aware of the response to my review of the Penn Ohio Roofing Company. A representative of the said company wrote: Response from the owner4 days agoRose we have no evidence of a contract for you or anyone with your name. You must be another competitor trying to ruin our company name, thanks Joe P said that he told Dustin G that he should not write such responses. April 28, 2019Note: Looking at the PA Dept. of State website, I had found that a new LLC had been formed on April 1, 2019, also naming Dustin G as owner. The Penn Ohio Roofing and Siding LLC entity #: 4129448The name of this newly formed company is Penn Ohio Roofing & Siding Group LLC. Entity # 6867515. April 29, 2019*** (*** husband) called Joe P. He again apologized and said that Alvin F would be sent to re-seal/re-caulk the gutters. Mr. P indicated that he would call Lloyd by Wednesday, May 1, 2019 and that if he did not call Lloyd that Lloyd should call him. Lloyd informed J. P that it is required that he (Lloyd) will be present at *** when the work will be done; therefore, J. P needed to schedule the repairs at least 2 days in advance to allow Lloyd to adjust his work schedule.

Last year Penn-Ohio was contracted to install new roofing and siding on our home. Based on our experience we wonder how many 5 star reviewers did close inspections.
To list some of the roofing problems, there were no ridge vent end plugs which would allow entrance of insects and vermin, underlayment and shingles covered the ridge vents’ sawed slots preventing attic exhaust ventilation (did customers go inside their attics as this is the only way to inspect for this problem?), holes in the chimney counterflashing’s caulk, the drip edge on all eaves installed incorrectly over the underlayment (International Residential Code Section 905) and with insufficient nails, a gutter tilted wrong so that it holds water, fascia cutting into an underlying shingle, and severely scuffed shingles from the workmen’s shoes such that our gray shingles have sections of the underlying black asphalt visible even when viewed from ground level. Though some repairs were made by owner Dustin G’s crew after I notified him of the problems (problems that professionals should not cause in the first place), others were found after Dustin refused to replace the scuffed shingles and angrily ordered his men off the job, berating me for watching everything they were doing. Everyone has the right to expect quality work especially when spending many thousands of dollars on a job.
Regarding the siding, I saw that crew punching holes in the underlying insulation board as they removed the old siding with claw hammers. I phoned Dustin and when he arrived I said his crew should hold a small plywood board under the hammer to prevent this and that I wanted the holes patched. He said I should hire someone to do the repairs. I told him that I was not going to hire someone else to do repairs for damage that his crew caused. We did agree on a way for his men to do the patching. If I wasn’t watching, I would never have seen all those holes in my home’s insulation boards since the damage would have been hidden after installation of the new siding.
My wife and I verbally informed Dustin that we wanted the Golden Pledge Warranty and we had circled that selection in the roofing contract. After the job was done Dustin said that we had not contracted for that top-of-the-line warranty since we should have checkmarked that warranty not circled it. That was a ridiculous technicality. Plus, by summing the various project cost sections it was clear that we were being charged for the Golden Pledge Warranty without getting it. We later reached a settlement through our attorneys, but we do not have a GAF Golden Pledge warrantied roof which was one of the reasons that we chose Penn-Ohio.
We tried to be friendly and helpful since we could see how hard the men were working in the hot weather, particularly when the roofers were removing the old double shingle layers. My wife gave both crews refreshments and pastries. I gave the roofers plywood and caulk when they ran out so they would not need to make a special trip to get them, and gorilla gloves to any of the 10 man crew who wanted them since I know from experience that shingles are rough on the hands. For the siding crew there were two jobs that Dustin agreed to have them do that I later informed him I would do for their safety. On an earlier cool day, I removed all the shutters so no one would get stung by the wasps nesting inside (they were inactive that cold day). Also, since I have a full-face respirator, I removed attic fiberglass batting that I noticed was plugging all the soffit air intakes which would result in no attic ventilation (old fiberglass is almost as dangerous to breathe as asbestos). I gave the torn-off gutters, downspouts, soffit, and fascia to the siding foreman so he could turn in the scrap aluminum for some extra cash We did not do any of that expecting or asking for contract reduction (and was not offered one), but just to treat people right, which was not reciprocated..
At the start Dustin was personable, helpful, and offered a competitive bid. I was hesitant about Penn-Ohio since there was such extensive fine print in the contracts compared to other bids (plus in the fine print of both contracts there was a demand for 12% interest per month -- though I changed that), and what seemed to me to be Dustin’s overly strident responses to some negative online reviews. But most reviews were good, so we made the mistake of choosing Penn-Ohio.

Rick G was the service man that came to the home to repair a couple leaks in our roof in April 2018. After he completed the repairs and was paid for his services, the next rain showed that the leak was not repaired and the company was repeatedly contacted to have Rick or someone from Penn-Ohio come back out the house to properly fix the leak in the roof. The company is no longer returning my calls and has not fixed the leak in the roof.

Penn Ohio roofing was friendly, professional and dedicated to making sure their customer is taken care of. My family and I were having trouble finding a roofer that would play by the rules of a 203 K rehab loan. Not only did Penn Ohio deal with all of the paper work but It was like you never knew they were there. We get many compliments from neighbors about how fast they were! I highly recommend Penn Ohio Roofing!!

We had wind damage to our roof and turned it in to our homeowners insurance. Their adjuster came out and determined we needed a complete roof. We Got several estimates and decided we wanted to go with Penn Ohio primarily because he told us he would help us with the insurance company. He said he would do the roof for what they would pay and absorb the deductible as well. We turned his estimate in to our insurance, but they rejected it saying it was too high and the number of squares was way off of their estimate. Since it was 38 squares vs the 26 squares from the insurance adjuster, they required a signed estimate from him that we would sign and turn in to the insurance. We never gave Penn Ohio a signed estimate. Since Dustin told us he would do it for what the insurance paid, we asked for a new estimate in writing. Our insurance only released what they felt the roof should cost. He never gave us a new written estimate despite asking for it several times. Months later we went with somebody else. He then sued us for his $12,600 estimated cost, AND WON a $500 cancellation fee plus court costs totalling $664. Penn Ohio never stepped foot on the job, bought material, nor did we even set a date. He won because showed up in court with a signed copy of the estimate that he received from our homeowners insurance the very morning of the hearing. He was repeatedly calling our insurance company and yelling and swearing at the adjuster because he refused to give it to him without a court order. Yes this is on record there. Unfortunately he found a random representative who would give it to him without a court order the morning of the court hearing. Luckily our insurance company acknowledged their mistake and paid this for us. Bottom line is he sued us for $12,600 and never did any work. Consumer beware.

Please do not read into this, this family took my contract for 12,600 and signed my contract and went and gave it to there insurance company. after they received the money they went out got a lower bid and used a unlicensed contractor who has be sued by numerous people and has 13 dui's. a contract is a contract, the judge did award us money for them using our contract and having a 500$ cancel fee.

Customer Response • Feb 14, 2018

Your estimate was for $12,600. Our insurance rejected your estimate because they said it was too high and you were 12 squares over the adjusters estimated size of our roof.
*** did our roof for what our insurance covered. We were very pleased. License # ***. They're bonded, insured and get an A rating on the Revdex.com. Quality work and service. Done in one day. They're nothing like what you have said about them.

Penn Ohio Roofing & Siding Group Response • Nov 27, 2018
