Disappointed
I recently ordered over $400 from this company and was expecting to get the free shipping as advertised, if my order was over $49. At check out I was charged $55 for shipping. When I called the next day I was told that you only get free shipping if it was not a heavy item. Nothing was mentioned the free shipping ad, except that some items may not qualify for free shipping. Too bad I will no longer be a customer of this company. Be ware of their deceptive ads.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Finally. Their explanation that the part was on back order may or may not have been true but It took them over two months to make my system complete. Numerous inquiries prior to my filing a complaint with the Revdex.com went unanswered in fact I was told on two occasions by Mr. W[redacted] and once by technical support that they would have the part sent with no mention of any back order on the part. I am glad to finally have the part but it is clear to me that I made a mistake in the choice of my dust collection vendor. A company is no better than their support and as far as I am concerned Penn State Industries doesn't have any. I have better things to do with my time than deal with a company that has to be forced to do what should be a given, customer service. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I do thank the Revdex.com for their efforts in this matter. There is no doubt in my mind that if not for the pressure you brought to bear on Penn State I would still not have all the parts for a system I paid for quite some time ago.  Thanks again for your help.

Review: I purchased an industrial woodworking dust collector known as the Tempest 5 HP from Penn State Industries. I spoke with [redacted], salesman at Penn State Industries, a few months ago when my Tempest dust collector was not starting consistently. I contacted [redacted] to check if the unit was under warranty. It was. I was told my another Penn State technician (I can't remember his name right now) to find out exactly what was wrong with the unit (i.e. electrical or mechanical). I hired a licensed electrician and his opinion was

1)The motor starter was not working properly and consistently.

2)To wait and see if it got worse.

A few months after this initial inspection the dust collector quit working entirely... this happened the end of August 2013. I called the same electrician back to inspect the dust collector and his observation was

1)The motor starter contacts are were very pitted and dirty. A heavier-duty starter should have been included for such a large 5HP dust collector. The motor starter needed to be replaced.

2)The capacitor became overloaded due to the faulty motor starter. The capacitor needed to be replaced.

At that time... in late August 2013... I was under a nasty deadline and I did not have time to wait for a new part from Penn State Industries. I needed the machine up and running as soon as possible. This is my profession and not a part-time hobby. Looking back this is my mistake... I should have called. I had to have the dust collector running asap, and I did not want to replace it with the same under-rated motor starter that it came with originally.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: this dust collector should have had a heavy-duty motor starter with better contacts. This is the mistake of Penn State Industry. We are all human and make mistakes. Moreover this is not an isolated incident... [redacted] confirmed this on Wednesday Sept. 11 during our discussion on the phone... and you have had faulty motor starters on at least one other occasion.

The total repair bill was $590 for parts and labor. I am not asking for reimbursement of the entire bill. I am asking for half of the bill... a total of $295. This is a very fair and reasonable solution for a customer that has spent close to to $2,000 with Penn State Industries.

Penn State Industries sent me a reply effectively saying: I made unauthorized repairs to the Tempest 5HP and now my warranty was void. Therefor Penn State Industries is not responsible for any cost associated with my repairs.

Here is a summary:

1)This company knowingly sold me a machine that had a history of failures. No recall was ever issued.

2)This company NEVER, AT ANY TIME, told me that making repairs would invalidate their warranty.

3)This company refuses to provide a minimal amount of monetary assistance in the repair of their faulty machine.Desired Settlement: I am not asking for a full reimbursement of $590 for the repair. I am only asking for what is fair. Splitting the repair cost 50/50 seems entirely fair and professional. Both myself and Penn State Industries made mistakes and BOTH PARTIES are responsible for the repair of this machine.

A check for $295 payable to [redacted] is my desired outcome.

Subject: Documents for complaint #[redacted]- [redacted]

To: [email protected]

Hello. I was contacted by Revdex.com employee [redacted] and asked for the following:

__X___ the firm's warranty

__X___ the contract you signed with the firm

__X___ the invoice/receipt for the product or service

__X___ repair orders, etc.

This is my reply:

The documents of warranty and receipt for the product (dust collector) can be retrieved from Penn State Industries. I do not have a copies of these documents.

The document of contract does not exist. I did not sign such a contract, and they did not offer one.

Attached is the repair invoice for the faulty dust collector. I have paid this and am requesting 1/2 reimbursement from Penn State Industries.

Thank you,

Dear [redacted],

I will offer to settle this matter for $100, **. [redacted] by his own admission did not follow our Warranty terms. In his haste to get his equipment running, he went outside of our procedure and got an independent electrician and non compliant machine parts to fix his equipment at what we feel is an excessive cost.

Our Warranty provides no provisions to reimburse customers for parts or repairs made by the customer.

Enclosed is our Manual that clearly states that all of his problems were covered under warranty and the problem could have been solved at nearly no expense had he complied with or Warranty. We deny that any of the components of our machines are delivered defective - and the opinion of an electrician he hired to fix the machine is hardly proof. We've had years of experience with hundreds of machines that did not fail to prove the veracity of our product. Failures of a part in a machine such as this can be for numerous reasons including: ambient temperature, dirt in the environment, Voltages too high or too low, or excessive on/off cycles of the machine. Nonetheless **, [redacted]’s machine was covered by our warranty.
