Penney's St. James Garage Reviews (2)

Austen came into the shop on the afternoon of August *, 2016 shopping for prices to install an alternator he had purchased himself. Never asked...

for charging system diagnostics or for us to first check vehicle out. He explained that he was at several previous shops and did not like their prices. At that time Austen never had asked for mine or the other mechanics credentials, seemed solely focused on price ONLY. If he had done so, I would have directed him to the wall beside him. However, all the mechanics here at [redacted]'s are ASE Certified with several other designations as well, except for our one apprentice. All these credentials are made available in our waiting area, where you first walk in. Our facility number is made very visible on the front of the building as well. I gave Austen a price that was extremely reasonable, he made arrangements to bring the car in two days later. We performed the repair with his part, checked the charging rate an d made sure the Battery light was out. Tech road tested vehicle approximately 1 mile. Customer received car that afternoon. Never received a phone call and Austen never returned to the shop that evening, I am at shop till 6pm. The next morning I did receive a phone call from Austen, I thought I was very polite and told him to do exactly this "Come by the shop as soon as possible and we will check it out." I remember even asking if he was in the area and he answered "Yes." Austen never showed that day and I never had contact with him again, till the date Austen himself has on his complaint which is August **, 2016, six days later. Austen calls that morning of Aug. [redacted] and again I thought I was being very polite and I asked "Austen what happened? How are you making out with the noise?" Austen just responds "I will be right there." He comes with a nearly $700.00 dollar bill from a mechanic, Austen said himself is a whopping 51 miles away. He wan ted me to reimburse him, which I made clear will not happen. I have several reasons why that will not occur. Austen himself never tried to rectify the issue, he called the morning after the repair and never showed up. He never gave [redacted]'s a chance to even look at the car, although he was only perhaps 2 miles up the road. He took it upon himself to take it to another mechanic 51 miles away and chose to pay those charges. Perhaps incurring more unnecessary repairs do to the long trip. Even when it was at the other facility, I never was notified. Next point of contact was on the day Austen himself mentioned August **, 2016 and already had the repairs made. This issue concerning the power steering would not be covered under any warranty from [redacted]'s anyway, to be clear no repairs made would be covered. All we did was install an Alternator that the customer himself purchased. Vehicle was never diagnosed and his invoice shows that. We did the repairs Austen asked for and he p aid ONLY for those repairs. Vehicle left with his alternator installed. Cannot be held liable for components on a 16 year old vehicle. Though the main reason why [redacted]'s will not reimburse is because of the invoice Austen received in which it states at the bottom "WARRANTY WORK HAS TO BE PERFOMRED IN OUR SHOP & CANNOT EXCEED THE ORIGINAL COST OF REPAIR." The previous statement is the normal in the automotive industry and many other factions of business conducted within this country. Warranty work cannot just be performed without first contacting the issuer of the warranty. This is common practice for all warranties issued, whether it be from a manufacturer (ex:Toyota), aftermarket/extended warranty(ex:[redacted]), insurance company (ex:[redacted]) or a facility (ex:[redacted]'s) supplying coverage for the vehicle itself or repairs made on it. I truly wish Austen would have returned and we could have resolved this issue. We would have placed his vehicle on a lift and hav e techs show him exactly was going on and what we had to do to repair it. [redacted]'s was never given a opportunity to do so and it ended up costing him much more for that.

Revdex.com:At this time, I have not been contacted by [redacted]'s St. James Garage regarding complaint ID [redacted].Sincerely,[redacted]
