INEPT SERVICE DEPARTMENT...I brought my 2016 Gl 550 in for a misfire problem. After $1600 of evaluation I was told that the only way to determine the cause of my problem was to tear my engine down for a charge of $2500 and depending on what was found the repair would be between $5000 and $15000 or I could trade it in for an offer of $5000, (Edmonds estimates the value at $20,000). I took my suv to a european engine repair specialist who fixed my problem by PROPERLY installing a new set of spark plugs. This summer I have traveled 4000miles in my GL550 and it runs with no problems. I REQUESTED FINANCIAL COMPENSATION from Rick Cardwell the GM for this incompetent evaluation by his service department and also spoke to Oscar Mancia the Service Director whose only comment was " Well, I guess my technician misdiagnosed your problem" NO OFFER OF COMPENSATION. I am requesting an investigation of this service department and the MANAGEMENT of this dealership for what I see as an unethical inflation of my repair evaluation. Based on this repair estimate I was offered $5,000 trade in value for my 2016 GL550, whose repair was little more than a new set of spark plugs installed properly. I bought a [redacted] from Penske/ [redacted] and it has been a lemon right from the start, Rattles from hell that never go away, seats that move back and forth on their own after you put the front seat down like robots but none is more maddening than the most recent affront -- an entertainment system/navigation screen that reboots whenever it wants to and goes dark so you can't see what's on or what's whatI reported this problem while it was under warranty (I have the email notification confirming the timing) but they said they couldn't find anything wrong (yes, THAT ploy again) So two weeks ago I returned it to Penske in [redacted] to fix the problem they said they originally couldn't find Wouldn't you know they wanted over $4,to replace the system (and a few hundred more to "expedite" it by the time I got home (I was out of town)No screen, no navigation, no radio for an ex-radio program director and dj as well as music industry professor They're fine with itA [redacted] is no [redacted] in my book unless you don't like radios and navigation systems that workThe dealer won't pay to make it right [redacted] won't pay to fix a reported warranty problemSo I am suingIn the meantime: Spoiler Alert for bothShop around for other options outside the [redacted] world and the anti-consumer practices of Penske
