To Peoria Family Dentistry,

My daughter, [redacted], visited your office in September of 2013 and was told she needed a deep cleaning. She had the deep cleaning the following month, in October. Upon completion of the cleaning the hygenist told her to make her next appointment in 6 months. When she told the receptionist what the hygenist said, the receptionist went to the hygenist and asked, "Shouldn't she come back in 3 months?" The hygenist said, "No, she will be okay to wait 6 months." So they made [redacted]s second appointment for 7.5 months later in May for a periadontal maintainance cleaning. In May [redacted] received a call two days prior to the appointment requesting she reschedule on account of their hygenist not working on Wednesdays any longer. The appointment was pushed back a week. She never received a phone call to confirm the appointment so she called the morning of, and the receptionist responded saying the appointment was never put into their schedule. In her exact words, the receptionist told her to "get here as fast as you can." She came in 30 minutes later and was told by the hygenist that she should have come in after just 3 months and that she now needed another deep cleaning. [redacted] explained the previous hygenist said she would not need to return for a cleaning for 6 more months. [redacted] asked them to accept responsibility for not scheduling a cleaning 3 months after the initial deep cleaning. The hygenist was non compassionate and said she would not agree to do a regular periadontal maintainance cleaning.

I came into the office and asked [redacted], the receptionist, to talk to a manager. She said I am to talk to her. After explaining the situation, she said that [redacted] must have Diabetes or heart disease because they have never seen a 22 year old with such bad gums and deep pockets and that there is nothing they can do except another deep cleaning. However, no one in the office ever reffered her to a Periodontist to investigate the condition of her gums.

I took it upon myself to send [redacted] to Dr. [redacted], a Periodontist, who said [redacted] only needs a periadontal maintainance cleaning, not a deep cleaning, and only has one deep pocket in the back, upper left, between her molars. Dr. [redacted] asked [redacted] to describe the "deep cleaning" that was performed in October. [redacted] said that it was supposed to be done in 2 visits but, when she went in, the hygenist did her whole mouth in 15 minutes. Dr. [redacted] asked, "Did he numb you first?" [redacted] said, "No, there was no numbing agent applied." Also, at no point was there pain or discomfort. Dr. [redacted] said, "You did not get a deep cleaning. You just got a regular cleaning."

I am writing this letter because I request you refund the amount paid for a deep cleaning minus the cost of the periadontal maintenance cleaning that was performed. I also would like to inform you, I will be contacting the Arizona Dental Association, Revdex.com and the Attorney General about this matter.

This place is trying to sell un-needed treatments to unsuspecting people. They use high-pressure sales tactics and try to tell you your teeth will fall out if you don't buy $1,000's worth of treatments. I feel bad for those who wasted their money on unnecessary fillings and deep cleanings.
