I attempted to file my taxes at Liberty Tax in Racine, WI.
on 4/2/2015 I went to the branch office on Durand Avenue and there was only one staff person working who said my taxes were too complex for him to complete. And that I need to go to the State Street office to meet with the Office Manager.
On 4/3/2015 I went to the branch office on State Street and the manager was the only staff person working. I started my tax preparation with her and had a 30% off coupon. She completed my return and said the bill was $267. I requested to review my tax forms line by line and had to point out several error she made. She had to call her Supervisor [redacted] in Milwaukee, WI at least 4 times to ask questions about deductions and forms. At one point after I pointed out her error in entering a deduction, she said Liberty Tax must have updated the computer software over night, since she didn't know where was an extra tab to click. It took her over 2 hours to finalized by taxes and said the bill was $218, but my federal tax had increased to the amount that I owed $700.
I requested to speak to the Supervisor [redacted] in Milwaukee on the phone. I explained that I was unsatisfied with the quality of service that I was receiving by her staff and the number of error and phone calls that had occurred. I explained that I am not a tax accountant and that is why I came to their office with confidence that they were knowledgeable staff who could accurately complete my tax return. [redacted] requested the Manager send her my electronic tax return and also scan her all of my tax verification forms (W2, 1099, Mortgage and Property Tax documents) and she would review them and send an e-mail to staff with her review decision; and that I was supposed to come back the next day. She also told me it was in my best interest to get another agency to review the tax forms if I was not confident they were done accurately by Liberty Tax. She said "you wouldn't get surgery done on your leg by a doctor you didn't feel comfortable with". She would only negotiate the tax preparation fee down to $200. Even though they offer a 100% Accuracy and Satisfaction Guarantee.
On 4/4/2015 I again returned to the State Street branch office and only one staff member was working. He did not have an e-mail from [redacted] like I was promised. So he had to call her on the phone and I spoke directly to her. She said after thinking about it last night, she did not feel comfortable filing my taxes this year. And that I needed to go to another tax agency. I asked for my tax preparation file back from the office and she refused to honor my request and said that it has to stay on file if the IRS audits all customers they assisted. I told her I was very unhappy with the service I received by Liberty Tax and her staff. I also told her I would be filing a claim with the Better Business Burea of Racine for the poor customer service and poor tax services offered by Liberty Tax and Management.
