Performance Tune (Previous Owner) Reviews (1)

New Roman', serif;">"Very Disappointed by this garage. The transmission in my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 was rebuilt by Performance Auto Tune at a cost of $1200."
Misstatement: Careful examination of Mr. [redacted] invoice shows that the transmission was not rebuilt by Performance Tune but was sublet to a transmission specialist.
"Fifth gear was grinding after the vehicle was returned to me. I brought this issue to the attention of the Owner, [redacted]. He advised me the wrong oil was put into the transmission after the rebuild. They changed the oil."
Performance Tune used Mobill Synthetic 10W30 oil as directed by the specialist rebuilder. We responded by promptly installing the fluid recommended by Dodge, ATF+4. We acknowledged the situation and fixed it right away.
" One year and a week after the transmission was rebuilt it failed. I had no forward gears. I was also in Downtown Denver."

The transmission failed one year and one month after it was returned to Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted]
forgets to state that he called the owner, Mr. [redacted] to say that he was beginning a trip to Denver and was having a problem with the transmission. He was instructed to return to Performance
Tune immediately, but chose to continue to operate the truck and drove to Denver in spite of the instructions. NOTE: The warranty on the transmission was 12 months and even though it was out of warranty, both Performance Tune and the rebuilder specialist honored the warranty at no cost to Mr. [redacted] for purposes of goodwill.
" The tow bill which I have not recovered was $472. It took three weeks for Performance Tune to return the vehicle to me for a warranty service."

Mr. [redacted] chose to disregard the advice to immediately return to Fort Collins and drove to
Denver, thus incurring an expensive tow. Performance Tune immediately removed the
transmission from the truck when it was brought to us and immediately delivered it back to the rebuilding specialist. As soon as it was returned to Performance Tune from the specialist, it was replaced into the truck and returned to Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] forgets to mention that the first replacement of the transmission took just three days short of the three weeks it took in that crazy month of December right before Christmas.
"When the vehicle was returned 4th gear was and continues to grind. I've gone looking for a new mechanic."
The truck was returned to Mr. [redacted] on December 23, 2013 and we did not hear from him until nearly two months later on February 6, 2014 not "when the vehicle was returned".
The rest of the story: When Mr. [redacted] first brought the truck to Performance Tune, he stated that the clutch had been replaced in the truck three times already. When we replaced the transmission the first time, we also had to replace the damaged clutch for the fourth time. Four damaged clutches and three damaged transmissions would lead one to suspect that operator error should be considered as the primary cause for repeated drive train failure. In addition, when Mr. [redacted] telephoned on February 10, 2014 to complain about a fourth gear problem he was given an 8:00 AM appointment for on the following Tuesday, February 11, 2014 to examine the vehicle to determine the problem and provide possible warranty coverage. He filed this complaint and then never showed up for his appointment on February 11. Performance Tune has done everything within its ability to meet Mr. [redacted] requests, but his behavior confirms that "you cannot please all the customers all the time".
Performance Tune and the specialist rebuilder have both gone beyond the warranty by honoring it after it had expired. Now, for the third time in a fifteen month period the truck is experiencing a problem with a driver who has replaced his clutch at least four times in less than 85,000 miles and damaged three transmissions in fifteen months.

"At this point I feel like the repairs are being done by under-or unqualified transmission mechanics. I
would like either a refund or the repairs to be done properly. I would also like to be refunded the towing costs."

Performance Tune and our sublet expert rebuilder replaced the transmission at no cost to Mr. [redacted] once even though it was out of warranty. Neither of us wish to replace the transmission a second time under a warranty that is even further out of coverage. Mr. [redacted] was advised before he arrived in Denver to return to Fort Collins and he continued to Denver anyway. Mr. [redacted]'s decision to drive to Denver with a malfunctioning transmission and to incur a large tow bill is his own fault and he should accept the responsibility to pay for it. The ultimate irony is that Mr. [redacted] was given an appointment to check out his truck at no charge again, and instead filed complaints with the Revdex.com, Google, Dex and Yelp while not showing up for his appointment. Now he asks for a refund or repair after having burned his bridge times four!!
