Pete Zuidema Construction Reviews (1)

Inferior and incomplete work, poor treatment, overpaid for what work was completed and vendor failed to pay subcontractorsDishonest, sloppy work and argumentative/rude.Red oak floors installed despite the ask to match the existing white oak floors in the bedrooms. I only found out when the stain guy told me that they may not match because of this. The contractor had tried to tell me that they may not match because it was old wood vs. new wood and then told me the stain guy should have never told me that the wood was different. Nothing was covered (including the appliances, window treatments) even though they actually cut wood and drywall in the house when working and I had to do all of the cleanup. Rooms that were not being worked on were not closed off to prevent the mess in those rooms.New shower installed is not pitched correctly and puddles. When asked to correct, he quit the job after taking over 3 months to not complete a job quoted for 6 weeks.Ceiling repair in new kitchen was poor and he was unwilling to correct.Venting of new dryer through existing window venting instead of a direct route through side of house and he was unwilling to correct.Threshold in hallway bathroom and in one closet forgotten and when asked to correct he used brown quarter mold in the closet and a piece of metal in the bathroom instead of matching the wood floor thresholds in the rest of the threshold in all of the other rooms. When painting the existing cabinets, he did not paint the backs of the doors fully. That would have probably been ok if he didn't have sloppy paint mess carrying over from the front of the doors all over the backs. When asked to make corrections for work that I was not satisfied with he was defensive, argumentative and actually insulting.Did not refund an overpayment for the kitchen and laundry room even though the work was not completed.Did not pay the subcontractors for the work they did with the $30000 he did get paid out of the $40000 for the total job. This amount did not include the tiles, cabinets, fixtures, countertops. All of these things were paid out of pocket. I even paid him an extra $5000 when he asked for it specifically to pay his people.Desired SettlementI would like the vendor to pay the subcontractors with the moneys he was already paid and I want a refund of the $3000 overpayment for the kitchen and laundry room plus an additional $2000 refund to actually complete these rooms. I would also like to be compensated for any additional moneys it will cost to redo the shower if the remaining money he was not paid does not cover that and the remaining work in the bathroom that was not completed.Business Response The first two checks(One from the mortgage company and one from the customer) that were paid out for this remodel covered materials, two contractors, dumpsters, permits, 2/3 of the electrician's money, payment to the finish floor contractor, payment to the plasterer and payment to the painter. The 3,000 dollar refund being requested is inaccurate. The customer and I agreed with the numerous changes being made added work(material and Labor cost). At the end of the project, this additional cost of the work was to be deducted from the 3,000 dollars. The 2,000 dollar refund being requested to complete kitchen and laundry room is unnecessary do to the fact the work was completed. The shower in the master bedroom is pitched to code and was inspected by the plumbing inspector. If there was a problem with the shower the inspection would have failed, therefor the compensation being requested should not be required. That and the rest of the bathroom remodel was completed. Please read the following resignation letter to further understand my outlook about these complaints. To: Sherrie Sundstrom July 30, 2014 15 Herbert Road Worcester, Ma XXXXXFrom: Peter A. [redacted] Pete [redacted] Construction Auburn, Ma XXXXX On July 7, 2014 an e-mail was sent to you regarding my resignation from your home renovation. My decision to remove myself from this renovation was due to frequent changes made to the plan with unrealistic time frames, lack of trust, and constant scrutinizing of our professional judgment. Your request to move in before the completion date put normal procedures out of order and caused construction to be rushed from the beginning. In order to accommodate your changes; more time, material, and rescheduling was needed to complete those requests. The unwillingness from you to accept changes in time frames regarding requested changes caused stress, arguments, and poor attitude towards me and my sub-contractors. Upon my resignation you were informed that I would not ask for my remaining money owed, just that the plumber, [redacted] be paid what he is owed ($4800.00), and the electrician, [redacted], be paid ($585.00). Both of these sub-contractors have completed their work and have final inspections signed which were provided to you. When Wells Fargo completes their inspection of work done, and the balance due is paid out, I will call for my final inspection; providing the plumber and electrician have been paid. At that point all sub-contractors will have been paid in full and the city will provide you with your occupancy permit.Peter A. [redacted]Pete [redacted] Construction
