Peterman Brothers

We bought a furnace/ air conditioning unit in August. Cost was $14,000. Also paid about $2,000 for a cleaning of ducts. Needed to call and schedule an a appointment. Have called several times and a technician is supposed to return call. Only it has never happened. Would not recommend!

We are a young couple who recently purchased a house in Toronto in need of major renovation. In October 2017 we visited an open house which had features very similar to what we wanted in terms of renovation for our own house. Through the seller's real estate agent we were introduced to *** (***), general contractor of the Peterman Brothers group who had performed the renovation.

After meeting with ***, we were excited to work with him. He responded to emails and messages quickly and seemed genuine. After discussing our project, *** said that he would be happy to work with us, and noted that the first steps are (1) completion of survey for our property, and (2) architectural plans, which he would coordinate. On 12-Nov-2018 *** mentioned that he booked a survey for us with *** and it should take place in the next 2 weeks, cost is $1800. He also provided us with two versions of the rough cost for the project (lump sum estimate without any details).

On 14-Nov-2017 we signed an agreement with *** and paid the initial deposit of $12,500 on 15-Nov-2017. The arrangement was that the deposit would cover the initial survey of the property and the architectural fees, both of which would be outsourced by ***.

However, the survey was only completed 7 months later, on 22-Jun-2018. During this time we followed up with *** countless times.

After completion of the survey, *** agreed to use the deposit money to cover the architectural fees, but failed to do so despite our regular prompting. To-date, these fees are as follows:
- $500 for deposit - PAID (invoiced by architect 09-Jul-2018, paid by *** 10-Jul-2018)
- $847.50 for measured drawings - PAID (invoiced by architect 24-Aug-2018, paid by *** 27-Aug-2018)
- $1695 for schematic design - NOT PAID by *** (invoiced by architect 20-Sep-2018)
- $2475.64 for design development and ZC application - NOT PAID by *** (invoiced by architect 20-Oct-2018)
Upcoming architectural fees that are also under ***'s responsibility to cover:
- $847.50 - committee of adjustments representation (not invoiced yet)
- $3390 - working drawings (not invoiced yet)
- $847.50 - construction phase (not invoiced yet)

Aside from a 1-hour long meeting when we shared with *** and discussed the schematic design that we obtained from the architect, *** did not provide us with any insight into the project since the time of the agreement. He also has not provided us with any detailed quotations for construction, or any other work that could be construed as consultation services.

We have also spent a considerable amount of time prompting *** (via text messages, emails, calls that went unanswered) to follow up on the survey, and to provide us payment for architectural services as per our agreement. In the past 2 months *** has promised to send e-transfers the next day on a number of occasions, but then failed to do so and then failed to respond to any of our calls / text messages for 2-3 weeks at a time.

To summarize, our project has been delayed by 7 months due to ***'s delay in hiring the services of the 3rd party survey company. Furthermore, out of the initial deposit of 12,500 that we provided to ***, only the following is accounted for:
- $1800 (survey, ***)
- $500 (deposit, architect)
- $847.50 (measured drawings, architect)
Hence, we are owed $12,500 - (1800+500+847.50) = $9352.50.
