Complaint install a new chimney cap , he told me the old one was bad so we went along with it
now we can't build any fires because the house get full of smoke. he keeps telling me I do not know
how to build a fire ,After 35 years of living here I never had a problem till he show up .
he refuses to return my money . he just keeps telling me I can' build a fire.
called my office & wanted mason repair to his fireplace firebox & had a rusted out damper - beyond repair. We repointed his fire box, (hearth) replace some firebrick on the floor of his fire box & repointed all the cracks.
Also applied 2 silicone sealant down both sides of his chimney exterior due to NO J-channel for his siding. His rusted out & damaged damper, beyond repair was replaced with a top mounted *** Damper cap & cable system.
At that time all was working & inspected + instructed on the damper operation use.
After a couple of weeks, *** called & said he was having trouble with his fire's. I send out my service man. He build a fire & all went well. 2 more times he called and 2 more times I sent my man out. He built fire's. No smoke each time. That was last year in the beginning of winter. 3 more times total. Yesterday 10/24 7:35 am
*** called + said his fireplace was smoking. I asked him if his wood was stored dried.
If he was stacking the wood on the rack too much at a time or he was stacking it too close together and no space between the wood to ignite & to burn with air circulation (not smoldering) (wood too close stacked will smoke. It needs air to burn!!!
I pointed out that my service man had come out & started fires + did not have smoke! & he said yes he agreed no smoke. I tried to explain to *** about how to start his fire + how to store his wood covered, out of the rain.
*** told me he's been starting fires for 35 years. That fine but not with a damper cap.
He needs to be burning dry wood, start a small fire & gradually build it up bigger. Also space between logs allows air to burn the wood hotter & not smoke. *** may have been starting fires for 35 yrs SEASONALLY! But I've been in the chimney business for over 40 yrs on a daily basis. Some times you need to listen to a pro + maybe things would work out just fine! *** used the fireplace all last year. Until winter lasted very long last year.
April/May sometime! No calls?
I'm not going to refund the money for the damper cap
#1 He never ask & I won't because the cap is over a year old. Just learn how to work a fire.
I tried & he just won't listen because he knows more than me I suppose? It's not an equipment problem. It's a wood & fire starter problem.
Swallow your pride *** & please listen to instruction - all will work out.

it was way to small . if he would have taking the time to come out to take a look he could have Seen this.
