Peteys Auto Sales Reviews (1)

Review: On February 24,2012 my husband, [redacted], and I purchased a used 2003 VW GTI 1.8 T from [redacted] at Petey's auto sales in [redacted]. We test drove it, and it seemed okay, so we bought the vehicle the following day. The night we had test drove it the owner, [redacted], drove the car home telling us to leave the keys in it. When we came back the next day we bought the car and drove it less than a mile down the road to our home. The following morning when I started the car, it sounded loud as if it had a hole in the muffler. After attempting to drive the car to work I made it about two miles down the road and the check engine light came on. I immediately called Petey's and was told I should bring it back. When I dropped the car off I was told that the code shown on the computer was a problem with the Mass air fuel censor. I wasn't sure what that meant but trusted that it would be fixed. A few hours later I was called and asked by [redacted] what I had wrecked into. I didn't know what he was talking about, but he stated that when the car was put on the lift the Catalytic converter was cracked "in half". Angered, I stated that I had only driven it home and basically back to the garage. The problems were "fixed" but the check engine light never went off. I didn't drive the car very far because I was scared of what would happen to it.

One day the following week my husband and I decided to drive to [redacted] and take the VW. We got approximately 10-15 miles away and smoke started pouring out of the tailpipe of the car. We had it towed to a close garage and had to spend $1800 to have the turbo replaced. Once that was fixed the car's check engine light still would not go off after being driven for a few miles, still sending codes for the mass air fuel censor. I left the car sit at home in our driveway for fear of doing more damage and not wanting to spend more money on the car.

Today we had the car inspected, 3/25/2013. It would not pass inspection or emissions. The mechanic gave me a list of codes that were stored on the car's computer and told me that it would probably need a new transmission, and that cheaper after market parts were used to repair the catalytic converter and mass air fuel censor causing more harm than good. He urged me not to drive the car saying it was unsafe and suggest it I have it towed, or scrapped.

I called [redacted] from Petey's auto because I felt I was sold a total lemon of a car since we have now had more problems with it than not, and we haven't been able to drive it due to the constant need for repairs. I explained to him what the mechanic, who is trained to work on VW told me. [redacted] told me that he didn't know what I wanted him to do about it that I have had the car for a year and everyone uses cheap aftermarket parts to fix cars. He then laughed. I told him I was calling to give him a chance to make things right before I contact anyone. He stated that I didn't know what I was talking about and that he has a great reputation around town. I told him that I would be contacting the Revdex.com and he should have a nice day.

I am now stuck with a car that needs more repairs than what it is worth, and a car payment for a car that doesn't work.Desired Settlement: I would like to be able to return the car and be given a refund for what we paid for the car. At this point I do not want to ever own a car off of Petey's lot, and I never want to deal with the company after this is resolved.

I am rejecting this response because:

I was sold a car that immediately had problems.

I have been told by a trained professional mechanic that cheap aftermarket parts especially catalytic converters cannot be used on VW and that it is a commonly known thing. Because this was used on my car, the catalytic converter is still bad.

This car should have never passed the initial inspection performed, and has an inspection sticker that wasn't even filled out on the inside.

I have had to dump more money into this car than it is worth trying to fix the mistakes of the "repairs" that Petey's has made.

Because of the mistakes made to this car, it has been deemed unsafe to drive.

I am under the belief that I was sold an unsafe car to begin with.

I feel as though my husband and I should receive our money back and the car returned to Petey's.
