Petro Auto Care Reviews (1)

The first correction to Mr. [redacted] claim is my name. [redacted]. I was the service writer that worked directly with Mr. [redacted].  Mr. [redacted] arrived on 5/31/17 to have his vehicle inspected. Upon his arrival, I checked him in and explained to him our process. He was given an ESTIMATE in...

the amount of $142.00 for the inspection of the following things he wanted looked at. A) the pass side window & B) noise from the power steering. He also stated that his transmission light was on. I drove the vehicle into the bay to be inspected, I was able to hear the noise, he was complaining about. It was a loud groaning/grinding sound when the wheel was turned. The tech lifted the vehicle on a rack and inspected the car. I received the report from the tech. -Noise coming from Rack & Pinion; the gear stripped. Car shows signs of accident at some point. Shaft to tie rod ends loose. Should not drive car. I wrote up an estimate and called Mr. [redacted]. I explained to him that the noise was coming from the Rack & Pinion (steering gear) We also spoke of a repair to the pass side window. He was given an estimate for a NEW rack n pinion, power steering fluid & four-wheel alignment that included setting the steering angel & the window. HE CHOSE to proceed with the window repairs and opted out of the repairs for the rack, stating he would shop around. The agreed amount was $135 for the repairs to the window and $45 for the inspection of the noise from power steering.  He called back several times and was given alternate prices for a REMAN unit to try to work with Mr. [redacted] on the price. He still Chose not to have the rack & pinion worked on at this time. When the car was finished, the tech pulled the vehicle out of the bay.  He informed me that turning left was very difficult and as for a safety to the customer – he should tow the vehicle. I called Mr. [redacted] and informed him of this. He at that point explained he would be down. Mr. [redacted] arrived, he and I went for a short ride around the parking lot. It was very clear that Mr. [redacted] was upset. He then proceeded to accuse me of breaking his car and that he did not like my attitude from the beginning. I explained to Mr. [redacted] that I didn’t break his car, it was already like this from the beginning. Mr. [redacted] continued to speak to me in a derogatory way insinuating that the tech broke his car because when he came in he could turn the wheel, it just made a noise. Then tech got back from lunch & walked over. Mr. [redacted] asked him what happened to his car. I was present for this conversation. He explained, that his rack & pinion was bad. When Mr. [redacted] accused him of breaking his car. He explained that he never even took the wheels off of the car and he didn’t break it. Mr. [redacted] asked him how he was supposed to get his car out of here, the tech replied, you should tow it. At that point, I felt any more questions could be answered by myself and excused the tech. The tech did not know anything about pricing. They do not write estimates or speak to customers regarding pricing. Mr. [redacted] continued to become even more difficult. He was asked several times to step back from the work area and given the option to speak in the office. He would not comply so I informed him I would be calling the sheriff to assist further. Mr. [redacted] asked for his keys and I informed him he could pay his bill and I would release the vehicle. That was the amount of $180 of which we had agreed upon.  Mr. [redacted] told me he didn’t have to pay and was not going to. He was asked several times to pay his bill. Mr. [redacted] told me that even though his “vehicle was broken, it was not broken all the way”. He repeatedly told my associate and I, that the tech broke his car. We repeatedly tried to explain to Mr. [redacted] that it was not the case. Mr. [redacted] would not calm down.  At this point I got on the phone with the Sheriff.  I ended up giving him the keys so that he could leave the premises. The conversation was not going anywhere and I didn’t foresee it getting any better. I also informed him that from this point on, I would need the sheriff to mediate.  He still didn’t leave and had decided that threatening me was the way to continue. Mr. [redacted] finally left after I started to speak with the Sheriff department. Shortly after he left the sheriff showed up. I shared the information with Officer Hankard, San Diego County Sheriff’s Dept.  and was issued an incident report number, [redacted]. I understand Mr. [redacted] is upset that his car is broken. Most people do not rejoice in this situation. I can completely understand and sympathize with that frustration. However, that does not give Mr. [redacted] the right to disrespect my employees or myself. That does not give Mr. [redacted] the right to skip out on a bill that he agreed to. That does not give Mr. [redacted] the right to act as a bully customer.  Mr. [redacted] was given more than one estimate to repair his car. $1600 was the first estimate that included repairs to his window. He was also reminded that he had the choice to repair his vehicle elsewhere. He was not stranded nor was he forced to repair his vehicle here. The building next to me is a repair shop, he could have easily gone there.  Options and choices were available to Mr. [redacted]. He was not forced to tow his vehicle, it was highly suggested due to the state it was in for safety. He in fact, HE DROVE OFF IN IT. TURNING LEFT.  I wonder if Mr. [redacted] would have been as flabbergasted if his steering went out on him while he was driving on the freeway? Then who would he blame, the road? It was pretty obvious that Mr. [redacted] had been driving his vehicle in that state for longer than he should have. Nobody here at Petro Auto Care broke his car & nobody here will be fixing it either. My suggestion to Mr. [redacted] if he cares to hear it, would be to get a second opinion from professional mechanic. Best of luck to him.
