Shepherd mix as strays in his neighborhoodThe pets were examined at the time ofpresentation and hospitalized*** *** left the buildingHe came back minutes later and said he found the ownerThe owner lives in his neighborhood but he did not know herHe was informed that the owner could come and pick up her dogs but that we were not releasing dogs to him that did not belong to himShe also needed to call us and identify the dogs as belonging to herThe owner, *** *** *** ***, came at 9:pm on 3/1/and identified her dogsGidget, the year old lb female spayed Beagle had a microchip and Pepper, the year old lb Lab Shepherd did notI talked to her and made medical records for both dogs under her nameShe asked if the dogs could be examined while they were here and if I could express the anal glands on the BeagleI said I would express the glands and go over the examinations with herI explained that both dogs needed to go to her regular vet for teeth cleaning and that Pepper the Lab Shepherd had a pendulous abdomen and needed further evaluation to determine if that was a problemI printed her medical records so she had a copy and gave her the invoices for each dogI explained that the exam fee was reduced for stray dogs to $instead of $per petShe did not want to pay the $for the exams but she did using a credit card and signed the receiptHer pets were clean when presented especially after anal gland expression and were even walked out to the car for her. The CA Veterinary Practice Act and 597f state that stray animals should be cared for by a veterinarian and that costs for care should be paid by the owner when recovering their petFees were reasonable.
