We were hired to repair a Wheel Chair Lift on 12/19/and that is all we were hired to do. The lift was repaired on that date and I made the secretary aware that the unit did not have a State Required License. Upon our examination of the unit, there were no wheels installed on the unit
and it appeared to be a permanent installation. When the customer was informed of the problem, they did not tell me it was a "Portable Unit".We are not responsible for the following reasons:The unit was not purchased from usWe were not hired to pull the permit with the State of Indian, nor were we consulted to make this unit "Code Compliant"The customer decided on their own to hire yet another contractor to bring this unit up to code. When the unit failed the state inspection, somehow they felt that we were to blame.I have contacted the State of Indian and spoke to *** ***. He agreed with me that anytime the wheels are removed it then becomes a "Permanent Lift" and is under the AState Code and is required to have a permit and be tested annually. *** *** assured me that he would be visiting the site to enforce the code.Regarding their complaint that we tried to "sell us a costly maintenance agreement", our agreements are far lower that any other elevator company.
