' job was referred to my company on Friday, January 24. I went to his home on that date and determined that there was a water leak underground in his yard or somewhere inside under the slab. Before any digging could be done 811 had to be contacted to locate and mark all underground utilities which included electric, telecommunications and gas lines.
Mr.' home is equipped a gate valve as the main shut off to the water supply inside the home. This type of valve is antiquated and sometimes does not completely shut the water off to the home and considering this I could not determine if the water leak was inside the home or outside. At this time Mr. did not ask me how much the job would be and without being able to yet identify the problem I would have had no way to estimate a price. He only vocalized that he was concerned with the cost and wanted the repairs to be as economical as possible.
I returned to Mr. home on Sunday, January 26, and dug up the piping at the water meter and irrigation box. I located a minor leak on the irrigation tee. I repaired that leak and replaced a water valve on a toilet inside his home. We covered his driveway with plastic sheeting and restrawed the dug up area. I advised Mr. at this time that the only way for me to determine if the leak was definitely outside was for me to install a new shut off valve inside the home. I did make arrangements with Mr. to perform this work on Tuesday, January 28, however I had to delay the work by one day and informed Mr. that I would credit him for the delay. I did give a $200 credit on his bill. I did not charge Mr. any overtime rates even though this was a Sunday. Mr. has a nice property and we made every effort to leave no signs of damage to his yard.
Once the new shut off valve was installed on Wednesday, January 29, it was evident that there was still an additional leak underground outside. At this time, I contacted the leak detection company I use and trust to locate the leak on Mr. property. The leak detection company advised that they could not perform the services for one week. At that time Mr. called the referring company and wanted to know if they could get a leak detection company to his property sooner. In this instance the referring company had no faster solution and informed me of his concern. Upon hearing this news I contacted Mr. and advised him that if he was not satisfied with the current arrangements with my company that I could invoice him for services rendered to date and that he could move forward with another plumber. He declined.
On Wednesday, February 5, I met the leak detection company at Mr.' home and installed an opening for them to connect their equipment to home's piping system. They located the leak which was in a difficult location under a tree in a brushy area among the utilities' lines. At this time I estimated the total cost to Mr. to be between $3000 and $5000. I advised that the cost to make this leak repair would be between $900 and $2000. Mr. acknowledged the estimate and advised us to proceed.
It was approximately 12 PM and I informed Mr. that we would leave to eat lunch and return in approximately 1 hour to complete the job that afternoon. We had been away from the property for approximately 10 minutes when Mr. called and told me to turn around and come back to get a check. We returned to Mr. home and he confronted me in a very loud tone of voice and insisted on an invoice. I gave him a hand written invoice for $2300 and deducted $200 for the day's delay from 1/28/20. I did not charge him for the trip, the hours, the material or any mark up for the leak detection services on 2/5/20. Mr.' final invoice from me was $2100 which included 2 men, 3 trips, 8 hours and the leak detection fee of $350.
It is my opinion that Mr. was being ill-advised by someone who was not well informed of professional plumbing services. This is the first time I have ever experienced confrontation or negative feedback from any customer. I have many customers who would provide very positive reviews of me and my company. It would be very unfortunate for an unsubstantiated complaint such as Mr.' to besmirch the reputation of my company.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
First everything he says is not accurate I asked to pay the first time he came he said once we get into it we'll figure it out he came on Sunday because that's the day he wanted to come he's the one that wanted to put a new shut off valve inside the house he said the other one doesn't work I've been fine for ten years I've lived in this house . I paid for two men the other man did nothing other than drive him go to find out he's on disability and cannot work but I have his first name and a picture of them which I can send to the disability office if I need to . He charge me an obsessive amount of money on that . Everyone that I talk to says he ripped me off I had a new plumber come in and run a brand new line from the street to the house for $2500 look what he charged and never found the problem and then he wanted to fix it for $5000 what a joke . He should refund my money simple as that and a charge for a second man who's on disability is something onto itself which I will take into consideration with other resources
