Philmark Motorcars Reviews (2)

Review: This place is a complete rip off that takes advantage of anyone that desperately needs transportation. When they tell you the back is setting your interest rate just keep in mind that they are the one who are actually setting it. They actually get a kick back based on the amount of interest/percent financed. So they say the "bank sets the interest, read very carefully the document that say "PhilMark is setting the interest rate and will be receiving part of your monthly payment. Yes this is on top of what [redacted] will be charging you or any other bank/lender they deal with.

Never purchase or finance a car from this ripoff place.

Be warned!Desired Settlement: The interest rat be adjusted to a fair portion and only the portion that the financial institution charges, not the kickback that PhilMark Motorcars gets.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

In the attached letter from [redacted] Corporation the person that I am making monthly payments too, and also a letter that I received directly form PhilMark Motor Cars, they are saying two completely different things, and that is my point. PhilMark Motorcars blatantly lies to customers in the buying process, and uses high preasure sales tactics because they already know that most people coming to them have credit issues.

What they are not disclosing is that they get a percentage of that 23.99% interests as a kick back, so the more customers they get to enter into these deals the more the company actualy makes. I was rather fortunate that I was only swindled into getting a high interest rate and a worthless aftermarket repair warranty. I was also told that I would have to pay for a tracking device for the vehicle, and some other scam product that was their garrentee for makeing a loan to a person with such a bad score, mind you at the time my credit score was in the 600, which is not perfect but its defiantly not worthy of a 23.99% interest rate. This company is a complete cesspool and rip off to people who need a vehicle, and the two conflicting responses from PhilMark Motor Cars and [redacted] should prove that.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: The form provided was never presented to me and they did not clarify the contridiction in the earlier statement that the Lending agency set my interest rat nor did they address the act that they lied about receiving a kickback of the interest rate that was set.

Response:

The fact that this company has signed documents does not point to the manner in which they use reprehensible;e tactics to sell cars. I stand by my statements and the documents they present as evidence were not clearly presented and were actually presented as a requirement or the financing of the vehicle and regardless of what the seller state I know for a fact that they stated/flat out lied to my face they had no control of the interest rate that was set because I specifically asked why it was so high, and they continueed to say they had no control over it, when the document they present here show otherwise, and that it was set by [redacted] Acceptance. The also were completely deceptive about all of the other items that the vehicle requred with the purchase. They push a completely worthless extended warranty, locating device, and other added items just to jack the price of profit for their pockets. This company is a complete ripoff especially to people that are vulnerable and in need, I would not wish this dealership on my worst enemy.

I was fortunate enough to transfer this loan to a different lender which gave me a 3.9% apr, a lower car payment and less time to pay off the balance.

I will seek other means of reconciliation with this company sucha s public awareness and truth in lending exposure. I would hate for any vulnerable citize to have to endure this ripoff of a dealership.

Review: July 10, 2013

Dear Sir/Madam:

I write this letter due to being "had" and taken advantage of. On 6/29/13, I took my 1999 Mercedes SL500 to Philmark Sales & Service Center, located at [redacted], MD [redacted], ###-###-####. I took my car to them explaining, that I am experiencing a horrific shaking of the car when I place my foot on the brake and when I am backing up into a parking space and also when that happens, I hear a vibrating hum. I told him the car does not shake or sound at any other time like that when in driving mode. He called me the next day to say, it was my Front Rotors, I stated, that It didn't feel it would be the rotors, and I know what bad rotors feel like on a car and it didn't feel like that. He stated problem solved and it was the rotors. At that point, being that they are diagnosing my car and are the professional, what do I know? I went to pick up car and one of the front office gentlemen,

([redacted]) stated "which car on the lot do you want', while smiling. I stated just mines. I stated again, I can't believe it was the Rotors, he said your baby is running smoothly. I paid $351.28. I then followed him on the used car lot side of the business where he bought me my car. When I got in the car, as soon as I accelerated and then placed my foot on the brake, the same problem was still there not solved at all. I never left the shop. I told [redacted] that the same problem exists, and nothing has changed, why did he tell me the problem was solved. He stated that cause I told him what I was experiencing about the shaking when I push on the brakes, and when I back up, it shakes a lot, he took that and felt it was my rotors. I told him, I can only tell you what I am experiencing with the car, you guy are the ones that need to diagnose what the problem is. They never drove the car or lifted the hood. At this point they proceeded to diligently check the car out as if it never has been done before, they put it on the computer, consulted with another mechanic there as well. Then [redacted] whom seem to be spear heading all this, stated that he is 90% sure it is the Catylic Converter, cause I was loosing pressure, he stated. I asked how much for that job to be done and what about the rotors that didn't fix what was my reason for bringing the car to the shop in the first place. [redacted]'s comment was that I needed rotors anyway. I explained, that had my car been properly djagnosed, rotors would have been the last thing, I would have gotten. It was bogusly done. He said, it would cost about $800.00 to have the catylic converter done, and he will only charge me $150.00 for the rotors that they already placed on the car and the remaining $201.28 would be added to the additional $650 to have the catylic converter done, I am to pay again to have my problem solved. Next thing stated by [redacted], is that he was 90% sure but he will not know for sure until he put the car up and check it. He then calls and tell my friend [redacted], to let me know that it is not the catylic converter, it is an engine compression problem and it will be either $4,000.00 for a new engine or $2,500 to repair the current engine. I declined the work, I picked the car up on July, Tues. 9th, 2013. I asked them, how am I to be treated at this point. He wasn't going to give me anything then he said I am only going to give you $100 (started low), I said that is not fair, you took away my rights to decline a service, your gave me Rotors which you said fixed my problem which didn't fix my reason for bring the car to Philmark. He only gave me a check for $150.00, I explain to him, that they should only charge me for a diagnosis fee (which he said was ($150). Those rotors did not fix my problem, so they were not necessary; I told him I don't need them. He said, we can take the rotors back off, I said to him, "yes", do that and I will only pay a diagnostic fee of $150.00. I also told him, please put my original ones I had on for my car and that I will have my original mechanic to review that it is the ones. [redacted] stated, they will only fit your car. I said ok. Then within minutes he came back to say, they threw them away already. How convenient. So, I am stuck with rotors, that didn't fix the problem. I felt he should give me $201.28 of my money back out of 351.28 and just keep the $150 (diagnostic fee).

He said "no" and just gave me a check for the $150. I asked him to put on a service form of what his findings were that would fix the problem. He wouldn't write it on a separate slip; he wanted to obtain my receipt/invoice of the Rotors. I told him, he can place that on a separate slip. He then asked me to tell him my name, so. he can write it on the check, I started spelling my name to him, and he stopped me and asked for the receipt/invoice that I had for the Rotors. He wanted to see how my name was spelled he said. I felt he wanted to confiscate that original receipt from me. I showed him from across the desk how it is spelled, he wanted to hold it. I did not allow him to hold it. As I was still holding it, the other guy [redacted] walked behind me; I felt he wanted to snatch it. [redacted] then said he has a copy in the system, I said ok, but I still didn't let him have what he originally gave me. He then hand wrote on a copy from the system, what the problem was. And that he was only giving me $150 back. I initialed/dated it and wrote stating work 'unrepaired"

Now here is what I feel. I feel I have been "had" and it would have gotten worst. My car went in on 6/29/13. Told the shop attending it was shaking horrifically and a vibration hum when pressing on the brake and when backing up in a parking space. This is when I notice the horrific shaking. He called and said it was the Rotors, I told him my concerns that I can't believe that was a rotor issue. He was adamant that it was. The charge was $351.28. I picked the car up on 7/3/13. [redacted] said "which car in the lot do you want"? I said just mines, he said "your baby is running smoothly now". It was not, I didn't even get out of the lot. Same problem existed. And the rest was mentioned above. Philmark should have taken a lost and wrote off their mistake. I should have not paid for anything for that "BAD" treatment of service and misdiagnosis of service and parts. I was willing to pay $150 for the "LATE" real diagnoses of my car that happened on 7/3/13, even though, it should have been done the first time when I bought it in on 6/29/13. Instead they gave me Rotors. This is clearly a situation where I have been taken or placed in a no win situation. I was taken advantage of. I am asking for help to investigate this matter for refund. I would like the rest of my money back of $51.28. They should only be compensated for $150 of the $351.28. It may be a small amount, but giving the bad service and bogus acts of the fixing of my car. I feel it's the principal of the matter. I am certain they have done horrible to people many many times.

Please help,

This letter is in response to the above complaint involving **. [redacted] dated July 19th, 2013 and we regret to deny any claim on this issue.

When **. [redacted] brought her 1999 Mercedes SL5Q0 with a complaint about her vehicle shading when braking. Her complain was vague considering her vehicle had almost 300,000 miles with many issues causing different shakes in the car. We strictly inspected and repaired the brakes that were causing a shake when braking per her request.

Upon arriving, paying and picking up her car, she informs us that the shake is still there, After we re-inspect the vehicle, she then explains that her concern was the engine shake when that was clearly not her initial concern, Due to the misunderstanding, we generously offered her a refund for the labor time in good will and for her to only pay for the brake parts that were installed which were needed to begin with.

It’s Unfortunate that this occurred and we strive to always please and serve our community with nothing but honesty and great service.

Best Regards,
