Phil's Plumbing Reviews (1)

Revdex.com of Central Indiana,  I have read Mr. [redacted] "Statement of the Problem" and spoken with both the Owner ([redacted]) and the Technician ([redacted])  that actually did the work at [redacted]  I feel the following information needs to be addressed.

1. The...

job that we did for Mr. [redacted] was a replacement of a coolant pipe and housing that runs from the front of the engine and under the upper intake manifold.  We do take off the intake plenum (which is like a lid on a box as a visual example) to gain access to this housing and pipe.  We do not in any way disturb the fuel injectors or the related piping that connects them.  There is simply no reason to disturb the fuel system as it does not block access in anyway for this job and would add time for which we would not be reimbursed.  The fact that Mr. [redacted] suggested we knowingly sent him out with a potential fire hazard-fuel leak to have him return for more repairs is simply absurd, I find his suggestion of this being a scam very offensive and disrespectful.

2. When we were called by Mr. [redacted] with news that he was smelling fuel and in Elkhart Indiana (317 miles since our repair was made) we assisted him in how to obtain help from a [redacted] which is to call 1-800-[redacted].  We later got a call from [redacted] at [redacted] and we advised him to disassemble as needed to confirm the cause of the leak.  If he found we were at fault for this leak we would pay the bill for the customer.

3.Later I got a call from [redacted] a Service Writer from [redacted].  She stated that a fuel injector was leaking and this was the underlying cause.  Since we did not have the fuel injectors loose from the fuel rail we did not accept responsibility for this claim.  We did offer to pay 1/2 of the bill as a goodwill gesture for the customer and she thanked me for that and praised my business for stepping up to help with the issue.  She did not relay any information that her technician ([redacted]) felt this was our fault or that he had advised the customer that we were to blame.

Next day I find Mr. [redacted] has filed this claim and there were many statements in his claim that I wanted to clarify.  I called [redacted] and spoke with both the Owner and Technician involved.  I presented to him the following statements that were made by Mr. [redacted]:

"the mechanic at Don's had forgot to tighten a brace down and this led to the gas leak"  "NEW lubrication on the fuel injectors"

[redacted] admitted that he "assumed" we had taken the fuel rail out because the upper o-ring color and lower o-ring color were different.  He also felt like the upper o-rings had fresher lubricant on them than the lowers.  What actually caused the fuel leak was not a "brace" but rather the fuel injector clip had come loose on one of the injectors, this clip holds the injector to the fuel rail. Again he admitted to me on the phone today it was an assumption, not fact.  The fact is we never had the fuel rail off the injectors so this work was done in the past before the customer purchased the car.  Mr. [redacted] acknowledges that he has only owned the car for one year so he does not a complete service history of said vehicle.  Also [redacted] charged the customer 2.5 hours to remove the intake plenum and fuel rail as that is the time it takes to complete this task.  We only billed and spent 1.8 hours working on this car for the coolant pipe and housing to be replaced.  We did not do 45 minutes additional work to remove and reinstall the fuel rail as it was not required and we were not being paid to do this by the customer.

In my opinion it is simply coincidental bad timing for this clip to come out of position and cause a fuel leak within a few miles of us working on the car. Because of this I will move forward and offer to pay the remainder of the bill $143.89 even though I stand by the fact that we were not directly responsible for this issue, just the victim of circumstance.  Please respond as to where to send this payment.

I would also ask that Mr. [redacted] be more respectful with regard to my business in the future as he has based his opinion on assumptions and not fact.

Respectfully, [redacted] II
