I traded in my apple computer for a $470 gift card through phobio. They sent back a drastically reduced offer, and a bogus claim about the screen.
On June 14 2020, I initiated a trade-in of my late-2015 model Apple iMac computer through Phobio LLC. The quote they gave me for a device of this model and year of production in the condition I described (excellent) was $470, to be delivered as an Apple Store gift card.
Upon receipt of the computer (6/26/2020), they sent me a complaint that the computer's LCD screen wasn't up to snuff. The amount promised was reduced from $470 to a mere $120, for a computer that had been purchased three years earlfor more than $2000.
"Your trade quote has been revised due to LCD damage. This includes dead pixels, bruising/burn in, no response on digitizer or any other damage that could be related to the LCD," they wrote. No specific readings were provided regarding the pixels in my LCD screen.
The LCD screen of my computer was just as bright and brilliant as the day I bought it. This was a Very gently used computer. Phobio is scamming me because they don't want to pay me the full $470 for my trade-in.
I've since read countless nightmare stories about Phobio's business practices on the internet. They've pulled this with many other people, and I will certainly never do business with them again.

Desired Outcome

I'm seeking an Apple gift card in the amount of $470, the original quote from Phobio.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Phobio made this right, and gave me a gift card for $470, the amount of the original quote. I'm pleased.

Company seems to be creating a bait and switch. Was offered a value and after mailing it in, was told (falsely) it had problem and low balled.
In June I purchased a new MacBook based upon a trade-in value of $400 (which is below market for a 2.5 year old MacBook). I, nevertheless, accepted said offer, erased the computer, and mailed it in. Today, I was informed that my MacBook has a "delaminated or worn screen" and that I was only going to get $180. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the screen. I have photographs displaying this. I suspect, this is common practice in the hope that most people will accept the offer, since it is premised upon a recent computer purchase.

Desired Outcome

I have rejected the offer. So apparently, I will be receiving the computer. Instead, I would like Phobio to engage in fair practices, and give me the $400.

I submitted my laptop for a trade in and was told that I could get up to $330. Instead I was offered $110 with a false claim of damage to LCD.
I sent my 2015 Macbook Air on Thursday June 18th to Phobio because that is what Apple says to do. I was told I could get up to $330 assuming there was no damage. My computer works perfectly fine I just wanted an upgrade. When it arrived on June 24th they said they would look at it and update me. Today, June 25th at 4:23pm I was told that it was only worth $110 because of "LCD Damage", and an image which had things that quite honestly looked like reflections off of something. I read many reviews after this email that indicated that other people have gotten duped by this response, and that this is a tactic to cheat people out of money.

Desired Outcome

I would like them to give me the $330 that my computer is worth.

MacBook turn-in value reduced ~300$ by Phobio because of screen delamination that had not been there when I packed it.
I used Phobio to trade in my 2014 Macbook, after getting a quote for ~500$. I followed their shipping procedures, and when they received the device they sent me an email that the quote had been reduced to 180$ because the screen coating was delaminated. They sent a poor photo, showing a screen with a major delamination. This delamination had not been present when I shipped it, which I can back up with photos I have taken before packing it, for what it's worth. I called their customer support and they told me to get lost. That I could only have the 180$, or have the laptop shipped back to me, which now has a delaminated screen. They said that I may just not have noticed the delamination, which is completely unrealistic, since this had been my work computer that I used daily in all sorts of circumstances (lighting, background color etc.). There is no way I would not have noticed. According to this and other pages, I am not the only person who got such an unfair treatment by this company.

Desired Outcome

I am expecting Phobio to change their offer to at least 400$, to reflect the value of the device as I had shipped it. I do not want the laptop returned to me, nor do I accept the 180$ offer they had sent me.

Customer Response • Jul 07, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
In their email they have simply reiterated that the value of my device has been reduced.

"Based on our inspection, the trade-in value of $490.00 was revised to $180.00. Read below to learn more. You have 8 more days to confirm or decline your new offer. If we don't hear from you, your trade will be canceled and we'll return your device to you."

I had no other choice than accepting the reduced offer, because, what am I going to do with a laptop that now has a delaminated screen? So I accepted the offer two days before the deadline. Shortly after they sent me another email via Revdex.com, saying they wanted to review the trade but I had already accepted the reduced offer.

It's really surprising, and disappointing, that the Phobio, as the official Apple trade-in partner ,would resort to such questionable and unfair practices.

So frustrating. Twice now I have sent in Apple products to Phobio only to have them "requote" the trade-in value. The ipad that I had sent in was requoted to $0 and my iMac was requoted to $80. Both products were in great condition with no issues or damages. What a joke!!
I am shocked that Apple would work with a company that is so shady.
I don't trust this company and would never recommend anyone use them.

Phobio Response • Jul 01, 2020

Thank you for the feedback, ***.

We're sorry to hear your experience did not go as hoped.

We make every effort to offer a fair value for every device we accept for trade, and we've tried to simplify our pricing by offering 2 values for each device. We understand the offers of $0.00 and $80.00 may not have worked well for your trade in needs, or maybe it felt like an unfair offer. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thank you for your time,

Phobio Support

Bria, was very helpful and solved my problem. This type of employees help a company have good customer satisfaction. If you call Phobio ask for Bria. She is the best.

I explained the problem to the agent, I dont know if you can use names. The agent did a great job in investigating my problem and solving it in quick order. I have no complaints with this company or their agents.

I had the worst experience ever!!! I am so disappointed that Apple would partner with such a shady company. There are so many people who have had the same experience as me. I trade-in my 2012 MacBook Pro and sent it in perfect condition and a few days later I got an email saying that the value was now 0 because the computer was not turning on. At this point I am not even worried about the stupid value of the trade-in, I just want my computer in the same shape I sent it. I contacted them and their response was too bad for you. The worst company ever!!!!

Phobio Response • Jul 01, 2020

Hey ***.

We're really sorry to hear that your computer didn't power on during our inspection. We try a few different things to get it to power on, but mistakes do happen from time to time.

If you reject the offer and have your device returned and we made a mistake, please let us know, so we can make it right.

Matthew A. was extremely kind and solved my problem within minutes!! He was happy to help me.

I sent my iPad Pro in the wrong box and Matthew was absolutely wonderful and taking care of my situation and my anxiety. He's a wonderful support and thank you for having someone so caring, intelligent and successful at resolving my difficulty situation

Matt was fabulous. Definitely knows how to service people. He was so knowledgeable and kind. He is a true asset to your company.

Cell phone returned damaged
Phobio is the company Apple uses for their iPhone trade in program. I sent in my iPhone in PEFECT condition.

Phobio changed the initial trade in amount to 0 but offered to let me have my phone back. I opted to have my phone returned. They shipped it quickly, but when it arrived it was filthy and scratched. I don't know how they could have gotten it so dirty in the few days it was in their possession.

Their trade in practice is deceptive and their handling of customers property is very poor.

A quality company like Apple should not be partnering with a company like Phobio.

Desired Outcome

Originally I was told by Apple I would receive a $30 credit. Then it got lowered to $20 when phobio took over the return. Then to $0. They said the reason was the phone didn't match the original description. I sent in a 64GB iPhone. The description somehow had a 16GB phone. So why would a perfect phone with more memory be worth less?

Business responded to my request and made acceptable offer to amend.

I sent a late 2014 MacBook Pro for a trade-in in exchange of a gift card and they sent me an email on that the trade-in value has changed.
I sent a late 2014 MacBook Pro for a trade-in in exchange of a gift card and they sent me an email on Tuesday, June 16,2020 that the trade-in value has changed because of damage related to the display. The picture wasn't very clear but I could see that the display was very very very dirty and that there was a crack(?) on the top portion of the webcam. The laptop was in pristine condition - no cracks and with a clean display because who want to send in a dirty computer (how inconsiderate especially with the pandemic going on). I want them to send me more CLEAR photos that this is my laptop. On my laptop, I have a specific spot that would let me know if it is mine or not. I have tried contacting them over and over again - via email, twitter, and phone call - but no one will answer. I am frustrated and disappointed with the company since I'm reading that a lot of people are having these issues. PLEASE, send me more photos so that I can know if its my laptop or not. In additional to all of this, I have pictures of my laptop before I sent it in. Please send me more detailed photos before I send you MY proof and please start answering your phones, e-mails, etc. It is beyond frustrating not being able to get ahold of anyone. I only have 8 days left before they send me my laptop back but I am not accepting it because I know and I have proof that my laptop was in pristine condition when I sent it off. I would like my full trade-in value.

Desired Outcome

I would like someone to reach out to me for a full refund as originally quoted.

Phobio Response • Jun 23, 2020

Vicky, thanking for sharing your feedback regarding your experience with our company. We take customer concerns very seriously and want to ensure we are addressing all issues promptly. You have been escalated to one of our supervisors and they will be reaching out to you to discuss your experience. Thank you.

Changed offer on my trades (multiple laptops) based on false information
I submitted multiple laptops for trade. My experience was nearly identical to the countless other Revdex.com complaints on this site. On one laptop, they noted damage to the frame in the corner - it was bent. They included a photo. This information was used to significantly reduce the offer for my trade. There was no damage to my laptop - I have pictures of it before I sent to Phobio - no damage at all. Read the countless complaints - my complaint is EXACTLY what others are saying: Phobio falsifies damage as a means to reduce the trade value.
With the second laptop, they indicated frame damage (which also does not exist) - they provided no photo in this instance. They also said the model was different than what I had communicated. They claimed my original submission referenced a 256GB SSD drive - and the drive is actually a 128GB SSD drive. I can reference the original submission to them and it clearly shows I stated the drive was 128GB! So, in this case they falsely claimed I submitted the wrong information about the model and falsely claimed there was frame damage - as with my previous device.

My complaints are 100% identical to nearly every other complaint here. Clearly, in my opinion this company is providing artificially inflated estimates for trade-in with the clear intent to later significantly alter / reduce the value. They figure once the customer has sent the device, they will accept whatever offer they can get. They are reducing the value based on false information. First of all, Apple needs to stop associating with this company - this is the company Apple directly references on their website when you pursue trade-in options directly from their site. Apple should not be associating with a company like this. The total complaints speak for themselves. I intend to escalate this within Apple management so they can promptly address this issue. Apples association with a company like this hurts their brand as well. Second, we need to involve the Georgia Attorney General and have them investigate. There are more than enough identical complaints to warrant this. I would encourage others reading this to visit the Georgia AGs office and file a complaint. Provide any facts or evidence you have to support your claim (photos, etc.). In my opinion, this constitutes fraud.

Desired Outcome

Return my devices in the EXACT condition they were when they left my possession. I have pictures as proof that my devices were in perfect condition when they left my possession. I also have a statement from Apple affirming this - I took them to Apple before sending to get their opinion of the devices ad to perform a general inspection. They logged data for each device which includes the device model / serial number and inventory of equipment (SSD drive, memory, etc.). They also logged the exact condition of each device on my behalf. I asked for this because I wanted to avoid false claims against my devices during the trade-in process. Its a good thing I did this! I simply do not want to do business with a company like this - I just want my devices returned as they were. If these device were damaged by Phobio I will be pursuing appropriate action to resolve.

Phobio attempting to reduce trade-in value from $420 to $150 due to Apple's quality control issue - MacBook Pro screen/coating delaminating. .
I sent in a perfectly working MacBook Pro 15" (mid-2014), which Apple/Phobio originally quote a trade-in value of $420. They attempted to reduce the trade-in value to $150 due to "Delaminating or Worn Display Coating". After doing some research, it seems like Apple had an extended authorization repair to fix their faulty screen coatings, which included my model. I was never made aware of this, so the coating was never replaced.

Not only did they attempt to reduce the value dramatically, but they sent me an image of the MacBook screen that looked much worse than I had originally sent in. I feel that Phobio is practicing a bait-and-switch scheme, especially on an issue that stem from Apple's quality control.

Desired Outcome

I'm looking for the full trade-in value of $420.

Phobio Response • Jun 23, 2020

thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our company. Your concerns are important to us and we want to make sure they are addressed. It appears you have already been escalated internally. One of our supervisors will be reaching out to you shortly to discuss your trade. Thanks.

Customer Response • Jun 24, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The issue was escalated internally and Phobio supervisor, Jahmari T., e-mailed me explaining the same thing that a Phobio representative told me - "Due to devices being re-homed in as-in condition, we are unable to make these repairs and cannot offer the full value without the screen first being replaced". If delaminating screens are a common issue with some MacBook Pro models and ultimately lowers the trade-in value, IT SHOULD be included in the trade-in questionnaire. Apple/Phobio's trade-in process is misleading and seems like it's designed to rip off consumers.

Nothing was resolved.

Phobio Response • Jul 09, 2020

Thank you for the additional feedback, ***.

We understand the frustration you have experienced and we hate hearing you have not been happy with your trade in experience.

Dee M reviewed my request to have my trade in re-evaluated. She agreed with my concerns and as a one-time courtesy overrode the decreased value as it was noted to be a very minor and early change.

Her customer service was excellent and I am satisfied with the outcome.

Incredibly disappointed in Apple's decision to partner with this company. I was originally quoted $550 for my MacBook Pro, which was functioning perfectly fine with no defects to the day that I packaged it in Phobio's provided trade-in kit. I received an email a week later notifying me that my trade-in value had been adjusted to $190 with a reason of: "Display is Not Functioning Properly (Lines, Flicker, Pixel Damage)".

After doing some research, it appears this type of bait and switch happens frequently with this company. I regret not looking at reviews before going through with this process. It seems like customers that dispute defects are met with arbitrary photos of "proof" with no resolutions. I've since cancelled my trade-in and I'm hoping they return my device in the same condition that I sent it.

Avoid this company, you're better off reselling your devices yourself.

Josephina was amazing. She was not only helpful in resolving my trade-in question, she also exemplified kindness, professionalism, and positivity.

A lovely interaction.
