Phoenix College Reviews (3)

On February 26, 2015, Ms. [redacted]l contacted Nancy N[redacted] Phoenix College Paralegal Advisor, concerning admission to the program. The advisor responded the same day, sending Ms. [redacted]l information on the program, eligibility, information on testing, transcripts needed, and...

pre-requisites required. Ms. [redacted]l and Ms. N[redacted]e exchanged numerous emails over the next month with Ms. N[redacted]e providing additional information in response to Ms. [redacted]l’s questions concerning program and enrollment processes and protocols. Ms. N[redacted]e also provided Ms. [redacted]l with a Course Selection Guide on March 3, 2015, a document that details how to register for classes and information on the first classes she should register for.Registration for summer and fall 2015 classes began on March 23. Prior to that date, Ms. [redacted]l submitted the appropriate paperwork for admission to the Paralegal program and was admitted. Ms. Cottrell contacted Ms. N[redacted]e on March 24, the day after registration for summer classes began, requesting information on overrides. At that time Ms. [redacted]l had discovered that the summer classes were full. Ms. N[redacted]e informed her that the overrides into full classes are not allowed by the department. Ms. [redacted]l repeated requested an override. This request was denied by Mr. Scott H[redacted] based on a process established and followed by the Criminal Justice Department at Phoenix College. Overrides are never granted for paralegal courses.Additionally, Ms. [redacted]l was told that there was no wait list for these courses (another practice established and followed by the Criminal Justice Department at Phoenix College) and that students must monitor full courses to check for availability. Typically, seats become available when other students change their schedule and/or when students fail to pay by the payment deadline and are dropped for non-payment. Ms. [redacted]l was also informed of other general education courses (i.e., COM, CRE) she could take that were required for the program and were available with open seats for the summer term.
On April 1, 2014, Ms. [redacted]l emailed and called Program Director Scott Hauert once again. Mr. Hauert spoke to Ms. [redacted]l over the phone concerning her request. This was following two email responses from Mr. Hauert on this issue and a response confirming the Department policy from Mr. Rick W[redacted], Department Chair over Criminal Justice, Emergency Response, and Legal Studies. Ms. [redacted]l reported that she contacted the Dean’s office for an override and to submit a complaint. A formal complaint was received by Mr. Wilbert [redacted] Dean of Arts and Sciences, on April 13, 2015. Ms. [redacted]l also contacted Ms. Chris H[redacted] Vice President of Student Affairs and Acting Phoenix College President.
On April 27, 2015, Ms. N[redacted]e emailed Ms. [redacted]l to inform her that several seats for summerparalegal courses had become available. Ms. [redacted]l was able to successfully enroll in LAS101 for the summer term.
Mr. Nelson investigated Ms. [redacted]l’s complaint and submitted a written response on May 8, 2015indicating the following:
“1. The allegation of unprofessional behavior on behalf of Mr. Hauert is not substantiatedtherefore this part of the grievance is not valid.2. All of the emails and communications have been consistent with what the process for enrolling in the classes once they are full at least until the classes have started.3. The request for me as the Dean to enroll you in the courses would be in violation of the process that has been established by the college. The process is that only Department Chairs have the authority to enroll a student in a class that is full that being said whomever advised you that the Dean(s) could enroll you in a course is not appropriate. In conclusion, it my recommendation that if you are to get in the course(s) that you need you will need to follow the process that has been outlined to you by Mr. H[redacted] Mr. W[redacted], Nancy, and Acting President Haines as well as in the email from me dated April 13, 2015.”
Ms. [redacted]l was also informed of her right to appeal the decision to Dr. K[redacted], Vice President ofAcademic Affairs at Phoenix College.
Summer classes for the Paralegal program began May 18, 2015. On May 19, 2015, Mr. Scott Hauert submitted a formal complaint that Ms. [redacted]l has allegedly violated the Maricopa Community Colleges Student Code of Conduct by harassing numerous faculty and staff. Ms. Chris H[redacted] VP of Student Affairs, assigned Dean Heather K[redacted] to investigation the alleged conduct violation.
On May 20, 2015, I contacted Ms. [redacted]l as part of the Code of Conduct investigation to notify her of the report of an alleged violation. Ms. [redacted]l and I exchanged communications concerning her demands for an override. I provided her with specific information concerning registration and enrollment policies, and MCCCD A.R. 2.5.2 Student Conduct Code https://chancellor.maricopa.edu/public-stewardship/governance/administrati... /> On May 26, 2015, Ms. [redacted]l emailed Ms. N[redacted] stating that LAS109 was open and requestedto be enrolled. Mr. Scott Hauert responded that since classes had already started (May 18, 2015) it was no longer possible to enroll in the class. That, in fact, the entire Maricopa Community College District does not permit late registration (enrollment after a class has begun), specifically MCCCD A.R. 2.2.8 Registration https://chancellor.maricopa.edu/public-stewardship/governance/administrative-reg... /> On the same day, I spoke with Ms. [redacted]l on the phone and confirmed Mr. Hauert’s information, that due to the no late registration policy it was not possible for her to enroll in LAS 109, despite the fact that two seats had opened after the class began. This conversation was documented in a follow up email with the referenced policy. The MCCCD policy does include language referencing circumstances under which a faculty and Department Chair may grant an exception. Ms. [redacted]l’s circumstances did not meet the MCCCD qualifications for an exception. Furthermore, the policy of Paralegal studies to not grant overrides or late registration has been enforced consistently for all students in the program.

Seriously the worst customer service I've ever received. No one is on the same page. Financial aid, advisors, office staff are ALL unhelpful, and rude. I've honestly never had such an awful experience trying to give people money to further my education. Calling to get an issue figured out? Forget about it. You will be on wait for 30 min up to 3 hours, get disconnected multiple times then be told to contact a different office or just never get through to the person your actually trying to reach. I had people tell me that they would resolve my problems and never follow through. Even supervisors were unhelpful!

Ad[redacted] has no record of enrollment at Phoenix College.  Mr. Sanders referenced “the University of Phoenix College,” and may have confused the University of Phoenix with Phoenix College, two completely independent and separate postsecondary...

intuitions.  At this time, again we have no student record for this individual and therefore no credit on file to be issued through a refund process.
