Hello. You mis-understand our offer. We deny responsibility at all--the $offer was in compromise of a disputed claim. We have been going back and forth quite a bit, and we are withdrawing this offer if not accepted todayregards,
John E***
CEO,
Plumbing Express

in response to complaint ID [redacted];
[redacted] tub/shower has loose tiles and decaying backer board, and this is most likely the source of her leak.  It is possible that the corroded drain is contributing to the leak, but we do not know this for certain.  But most importantly,...

our scope of work did not include repair/replacement of her tile shower surround, or replacement of drain piping, and this is clear and not disputable.  The piping system that we installed is not causing the continuing water damage--the condition of the tiles and backer board, and the drain, were pre-existing conditions for which Plumbing Express is not responsible. We have endeavored to assist [redacted] with determining the source of her problem.  To the best of our knowledge, she has not repaired the source of the problem or the water damage caused to the ceiling.  Our scope of work included cutting a hole in the ceiling and repairing same, but it does not include repairs of water damage at this same location.  Due to the ongoing water leaking, we have not repaired the hole that we cut, or painted that area of the ceiling, as we felt it would be counter productive since the leak had not been repaired yet.  Additionally, we have one hole to repair under one sink, as a punch list item.
If [redacted] would like to accept the project "as-is", we will credit her $200 in good faith compromise settlement of a disputed claim.  She then can repair the source of the leak and the ceiling on her own schedule.  Alternatively, if [redacted]'s suspends use of the tub/shower that is causing the leak until such time that the ceiling below is thoroughly dry, we will return and (a) patch the hole under the sink and (b) repair the hole that we cut in the ceiling and paint the patched area, but is should be noted that we will not repair or replace any water damaged drywall or paint; we do not recommend this approach, as the ceiling would likely not be smooth, and water damage stains may bleed through the new coat of paint.  Caveat: if paid in full for the original project, and paid in full in advance for the cost that we would charge to properly repair the ceiling, then we would be willing to take on this additional work.  But even then, we do not advise that this be done until the source of the leak is repaired.
If none of the above offers are accepted by September 30, 2015, we will be forced to continue with collection procedures, which we have suspended until that time.
Sincerely,
John E[redacted]

Review: [redacted]/Express Plumbing performed polybutylene plumbing work in my Condo Unit resulting in damages to my bathroom tub trap draining pipe, which created a water leak. The water leak is affecting my downstairs neighbor’s bathroom ceiling; there are holes in her ceiling and water dripping down. Two estimates from two different companies pointed the source of the broken bathtub trap to be a poor or negligent work performed by [redacted]/Express Plumbing. The company denies any liability and refuses to take any responsibility for any of the damages. I have presented a formal complaint to the Board Member Association at [redacted] Condominiums, the board will meet on Thursday, June 13, 2013 to review the complaint.

The estimated repairs will cost $1,850Desired Settlement: To assume responsability and issue a refund to cover the costs of the rapairs in the amount of $1,850

Response:

We just received this complaint today, as most Revdex.com correspondence is captured by our spam filter, but in any event, we are looking into the complaint.

That said, the homeowner who is complaining about our work does not have a contract with us for the work that was performed, and does not have privity to what the terms and conditions of the contract contain. Therefore, it is premature for the homeowner to blame our company before the owner even knows if the repair of the problem at hand is our responsibility. We are hopeful that the homeowner would admit to the above and that his/her Revdex.com complaint is therefore premature.

In any event, we will honor each and every contractual commitment that we have agreed to. If the unit owner desires us to do more, it would be helpful if he/she expressly state this so that we know what the actual complaint is about and can address it appropriately.

Review: I contacted Plumbing Express for help with remodeling a bathroom. I was quoted pricing to install a new bath tub ($250-$300) and rework the shower plumbing ($478). While consulting their estimator, he mentioned that the old/existing drain pipe may not work with the new tub and its drain kit. He told me the exact cost would not be known until they get in the basement access to determine work needed. He stated that the work would take about 5-6 hours.

On the day of the job (May 15, 2013), the plumbing technician clearly told us that he can reuse the existing drain pipe with drain kit we supplied. We were invoiced for setting the tub, shower plumbing, and installing the drain/overflow kit ($166). A charge for installing the drain/overflow kit was never mentioned during the estimating process. I had assumed this would be included with cost to install the tub.

After examining the invoice closely and realizing we were overcharged for the work, we contacted Plumbing Express the following day, May 16th. [redacted] told us he hasn't received his copy of the invoice so he would have to call us back in a day. He never called us. When we contacted him again on May 21, he said the charge was due to additional work required to level the tub which took more time. The invoice states the $166 charge is for "install waste/overflow", not additional work with tub. Also the appointment time was for 8AM but the technician was 20 minutes late. He left the house by 1PM. Therefore the work took less than 5 hours total.Desired Settlement: Refund of $166.

Response:

Due to the confusion over the work and price, we will refund the $166 requested.
