Powerlift has already been paid $19,to engineer and repair the foundation cracks in my homeThey determined the number and location of piers that would be neededFailing to properly engineer and install the required number of piers has created the additional foundation issues and the additional work should be at their sole and cost expense I am attaching several photos to show some of the reopened cracks (they are easy to spot because Powerlift also did a poor job of matching the existing mortar)together with photos of the new crackOne of the photos shows how close together the two areas are locatedIt is not reasonable to expect the customer to continue to pay additional sums until Powerlift gets it rightThese are not the actions of a reputable company

My name is *** ***, AIA and I am
the Regional Manager for Powerlift Foundation RepairPowerlift foundation is
one of the most experienced and respected foundation repair contractors in the
industryWe built our reputation on customer satisfaction and recognize that
your business reputation
is only as good as your last jobIn addition, we
recognize how important in today's internet driven world that we maintain our
A+ rating with the Revdex.comTo date, and doing hundreds of jobs annually, we have
not received a complaint in the years that I have been the Regional Manager
in North CarolinaIt is of paramount importance to us to resolve these matters
as soon as possible in a fair and just mannerto maintain our perfect recordand reputationWe are pleased to have this opportunity to respond
to the issues regarding the foundation repairs we made to the residence above
as follows:It is important to note Powerlift's
originally contact and all subsequent communications with the Owner, ***
***, have been through Ms***'s construction representative ***
*** is an experienced and knowledgeable contractor in the Burlington
area*** indicated in our first meeting that he contacted us because we came
highly recommended by and has worked with one of Burlington's premier builder
of fine luxury homes *** ***We recognized that Ms*** relied on Mr***'s expertise to help guide her
through this process so we made extra efforts to include him in all inspections and show him first hand all of our
measurements and explanations that provided the basis for our recommendations.Powerlift originally
inspected the residence and made a proposal for stabilization repair on January
25, We subsequently were requested to re-inspect and confirm the original
proposal on March 21, No changes to the original proposal were foundOn
March 23, Mr*** phoned to inform us that Ms***
had accepted our proposal and wanted her work scheduledWe proceeded with the
necessary engineering and permit application and procurementOn May through
May 22, the work was installed by our most experienced crew chief of forty
years *** ***Powerlift warrants this portion of the building being
supported by our piers against vertical settlement for the life of the
structure.*** subsequently went
back on July 6, at the request of the Owner to see if the mortar patch
work could be improved to provide a closer match to the existing(The
"Terms and Conditions" of our contract clearly state: "Powerlift
will endeavor to match masonry and concrete repairs as closely as possible;
however, due to inconsistencies and varying availabilities of concrete and
masonry materials, Powerlift does not guarantee
an exact match.")On August 1, *** ***
contacted our corporate office and requested that I give him a callI returned
***'s call the next day on August 2, *** indicated that a brick crack
had appeared and requested that Powerlift return to inspect and advise***
informed me *at he hadalready spoken with
*** *** and scheduled an inspection and repair for August 7, 2017.*** inspected the residence and found no
issues with the previous work by PowerliftHowever, the crack in question,
window jamb/brick separation and laser elevation measurements revealed that the
front left corner of the building and front porch of the residence that was not
stabilized was now exhibiting early signs of settlementIt is important to note that this area did not show any of these signs
or evidence of settlement during the original inspections or previous work***
noted that additional piers may be required, but for now it was prudent to
monitor for a couple of weeks and then *** would go back and repair the brick cracks. On August l 0, *** ***
contacted me and stated that the cracks were progressing and requested that I
make a site inspectionHe also noted the Owner was not happy knowing additional piers may be requiredI
re-inspected the work on August 14,My inspection and laser readings
confirmed *** ***'s findings of August 7, My inspection revealed:
brick cracks over the window nearest the carport, window jamb/brick separation
and displacement of trim at the soffit/eave at the carport, and laser readings
of elevation loss at the carport comer and porchAll of these findings and our
original inspection documentation/notes were shown to Mr*** to pass on to the OwnerI wrote a proposal #LTR *** for two additional piersI explained that in the interest of good
faith that Powerlift would not charge and would waive the cost for required
engineering and permit cost for the additional work to help Ms***Mr*** indicated that Ms***
feels that she should not have to pay the cost of additional piersAgain, I explained
that the settlement/symptoms being currently
exhibited that require additional piers were
not present before and that Powerlift warrants only the portion of work
supported by our piersI also explained that in the interest of honesty and
integrity Powerlift cannot in good conscience recommend piers in areas of the structure that do not
exhibit signs or symptoms of settlement. The Owner, Ms***,
and Powerlift are in dispute over a portion of her residence that is showing
signs of settlement requiring additional work that she fells should be repaired
at no additional chargeWe are more than willing to warranty the work to date
and would be happy to provide additional repairHowever, we cannot agree to
provide additional work at no charge.Powerlift appreciates this
opportunity to respond to Ms***'s issues with our serviceWe trust this
explanation will clarify our position in this matterIt is our hope that Ms
*** will allow us to proceed with the proposed proposal
for repairWe look forward to resolving this matter and keeping our record
with the Revdex.com unblemishedKeep in mind that we always stand
behind our work and are always available to respond to any inquiries regarding
the work abovePlease contact me at ###-###-####
