Physicians Surgery Center Lancaster General

I needed to have knee surgery May 15, 2019. I had dislocated my knee cap and had a piece of chipped bone that needed removed and possibly re-attached. My surgeon (Dr. Long from Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster) told us we could decide if we wanted it re-attached, or if we wanted it just removed. She told us we could decide the day of surgery, but she would put through all the needed to paperwork to be prepared have the full, and more involved surgery, if that's what we decided. But if we decided to just remove the bone chip, that would be fine. We received a quote from Physician's Surgery Center for the full surgery. We were given 2 different codes, one for the removal of the loose body, and one that included re-attachment. The total quote was $6841.25. After the surgery - which was just the removal of the loose body - NOT reattachment, I received the bill from the surgeon. We were correctly billed for only 1 code - the removal of the loose body. When I received the bill from the Surgery Center I was billed for the full amount - both codes. I called and talked to multiple people, managers etc. My surgeon's office called them. I was told by Physician surgery center that they can interpret the surgeons report any way they prefer, and they can bill according to how they see fit. I have a detailed list of attempts to clear this, who I talked to etc. We are self pay, so they admitted that this is something that insurance usually looks into, but I have to pay it in full. I am on a payment plan, and unfortunately didn't receive the last statement, so now to make matters worse, I just received notice that since I"m 15 days late with my monthly payment for September - it's been turned over to a Credit collection agency. Once again I called today, and they won't do anything to help. I offered to make another payment (I sent them one already this month) and she said that won't change anything. I've never experienced this level of horrible customer service in any other business.
